  1. Vaughn never played 3B in college, only two emergency appearances with the Sox. Perhaps you are thinking of Burger, also such a stiff defensively, but who has played 3B throughout his career.
  2. Not a great OF, but a HOF Gold Glover compared to Sheets and Vaughn. He’s only 26 and has been good except for this season. Wonder if something weird happened for them to just dump him like that. If the Sox were trying to win this season, they’d pick him up and option Sheets.
  3. Grandal caught 32 games in 2020. He missed a lot of time in 2021. He has either been injured or horseshit this entire season. Catchers beyond 30, beyond a few exceptions (out of thousands in MLB history) drop off really quickly. Grandal's heavy playing time leading up to 2020 made it even more of a certainty his health would not hold up over four seasons. Hahn paid $73M for five great months, and seven injured and/or horseshit months. 29 other GMs didn't even bother to compete with this offer. Par for the Rick Hahn era.
  4. So we are looking at 2025 to begin drawing conclusions on Nick "Mr. 3,000" Madrigal.
  5. I believe most here believe Hahn should have acquired a starting RF over the past three seasons. But given what they have, and the health and performance of everyone: Grandal should catch or sit or hit the IL. He should not DH. If he regains his health, he should catch more games. Vaughn should DH, with perhaps 1 weekly home start in LF to give Eloy a rest & at 1B (at any park) to give Abreu rest. Eloy, Robert and either Engel/Pollock/Leury left to right on your screen, should be your OF the rest of the season, based on the shitty Hahn options. Send Sheets down and bring up / claim someone who can actually play RF/CF, or Burger to spell Moncada who could perhaps use rest to clear his head and perhaps get him back on track. As long as Vaughn is on the active roster, Sheets should not be on the active roster.
  6. Tony said Vaughn did a heck of a job fielding last night, because he let balls drop, but kept the balls in front of him. This is something you would note about a 6 year old playing T-Ball, not a professional ballplayer.
  7. David Jerry and Tony have remained friendly / friends over the years, but when he made the call to fire Hemond and hire Hawk, he wasn't going to interfere with Hawk's plans beyond his insistence Tony stay. David doesn't have the mindset of a Williams or Hahn, satisfied collecting paychecks for decades until Jerry passes. Also, over all these years, Jerry never sought to hire David, and David was perfectly happy with his opportunities and ownership looking to win it all, not shoot for just missing the playoffs and maximizing profits. Kenny was successful that one time because he won several consecutive coin flips turning Jerry's nickels and dimes into dollars in 2005. The only sustained White Sox success since the 1950s and 1960s were the 1990s teams built by the discarded Larry Himes on young players earning the minimum, and a few supporting veterans signed by Ron Schueler. Jerry only opened the wallet after 2005 and locking in substantial season ticket revenue for the next few years. The 2000 Playoff team was ranked 25th in payroll on Opening Day ($31.2M), Source: https://543tripleplay.blogspot.com/2011/02/last-thirty-one-years-of-payrolls-mlb.html
  8. Didn't skip it. Hawk did the right thing in 1986 firing La Russa's ass. Hake shouldn't be held accountable Jerry and Tony are still alive and employed in the year 2022. Dave Dombrowski was never going to last under Jerry. Jerry never cared about qualifications. Cronyism and loyalty solely to Jerry are the primary two attributes he seeks. Inexperienced and unqualified candidates are the typical pool as a result.
  9. The 2021 Kimbrel trade, Kimbrel Option Pick Up, and 2022 Kimbrel trade for Pollock should be grounds for Hahn's shitcanning this offseason. Parts 2 and 3 were completely avoidable for $1M. The fact that he took on an even more expensive contract (spread over two years) made it even worse. In terms of Vaughn, he is still on 24, and like most power hitters, I expect his power to increase as he reaches his peak 26-28 age seasons (2024-2026).
  10. Making your suggested adjustments renders WAR completely worthless. A 1B/DH is fungible and can be easily found and fielded for the ML minimum or something close, unless you are talking a 4-5 WAR player. No further proof is the fact more than half of the White Sox batter roster is composed of 1B/DH. I have been the most vocal on the board about the overpay over Grandal's deal since Day One (primary concern was length for a 30-something catcher, a length no other team considered matching). That said, he is just an injured player who like a half dozen other White Sox. As bad as Grandal has been, there are literally tens of thousands of single seasons played in the history of baseball that this version of Grandal is superior to. Adam Done can say that about 12 seasons across 150 years, whittled down further by the same player appearing twice (Great Depression era Jim Levey), and two more from the 19th century. There are only a few humans in the history of mankind who have played professional baseball worse than 2011 Adam Dunn. No favorable comparison of Dunn over any living or future White Sox should ever be uttered.
  11. No, it's not even close, and what does the NYT have to do with anything? Adam Dunn had the 13th worst batter season in 152 years of baseball. 12. The World's Richest White Sox
  13. Still don't understand the Hawk pick. Sure he screwed up five months of White Sox baseball. Rick Hahn is a few years away from destroying an entire generation of White Sox baseball.
  14. No, it will cost Jerry or his estate money extra money down the road.
  15. And it burns, burns, burns. Sox Ring of Fire Sox Ring of Fire
  16. He has scored 6 runs, 4 not via his 2 HRs, in 209 ABs. That ratio of under 3 runs per 100 ABs has to be an all-time MLB record for a position player.
  17. Let's face it, most 6 year old little league teams have a superior coaching staff, player fundamentals and baserunning, and employ better analytics.
  18. This Cole Ragans isn't even available in the yahoo leagues. Marissa Mayer is such a b****.
  19. Today we salute you, Mister turnin' two and your brother.
  20. The Sox have a better Jackie Bradley, but Tony refuses to play him. Tony has only started Adam Engel 39 times last season (1.6 bWAR) and 48 this year (0.8 bWAR). There are only four White Sox hitters with a higher war (Abreu, Robert, Anderson and Harrison) this season. With all of the OF injuries and Sheets/Vaughn playing the corners, his defense alone would have won at least a few games for the Sox this season. Tony was starting Pollock over Engel in CF, which is completely ludicrous. Sheets' OPS + is only 9 points higher this season (92 vs. 83), and he ranks among the all time worst right fielders in the 120 + year history of The MLB.

  22. I held firm with five teams (Top 36%) over six teams (Top 43%), otherwise they would have made it. An 11-18 August sunk the Sox changes, and they finished September-October at 17-16. Until the Wild Card / Four or Five Team Division Era, nearly every playoff team was a 95 + win ballclub. Kansas City Royals 102-60 (AL West Champions, lost to the Yankees 3-2 in the ALCS) New York Yankees 100-62 (AL East and World Series Champions) Baltimore Orioles 97-64 Boston Red Sox 97-64 Texas Rangers 94-68 Chicago White Sox 90-72 Few under 94 win teams (.580 winning percentage) even made the World Series during the League Pennant (1903-1968) or Division (1969-1993) Eras. The dilution of playoff quality led WS Champions under a 94 win threshold to go from 6% in the League Pennant Era to 28% in the Division era, decreasing further to 44% in the Wild Card Era, Under .580 winning percentage MLB playoff teams (94 win equivalent for a 162 game schedule): League Pennant Era (1903-1968) - Six teams total out of 65 seasons (130 teams), two during World War II and only four of 65 World Series winners (6%). .564 1959 Los Angeles Dodgers 88-68 (World Series Champions 4-2 over the Chicago White Sox) .568 1967 Boston Red Sox 92-70 (Lost World Series 4-3 to the Saint Louis Cardinals) .574 1964 Saint Louis Cardinals 93-69 (World Series Champions 4-3 over the New York Yankees) .575 1945 Detroit Tigers 88-65-2 (World Series Champions 4-3 over the Chicago Cubs) - World War II .578 1926 Saint Louis Cardinals 89-65-2 (World Series Champions 4-3 over the New York Yankees) .578 1944 Saint Louis Browns 89-65 (Lost World Series 4-2 to the Saint Louis Cardinals) - World War II Baseball became watered down under the Division Era, including the worst "World Champion" in the history of the game, the 1987 Minnesota Twins Under .580 winning percentage MLB World Series Champions - Division Era (1969-1993) - Seven out of twenty five World Series Champions (28%) .525 1987 Minnesota Twins 85-77 => The standard bearer for worst WS winner ever, until Tony La Russa's 2006 Cardinals disgraced The MLB. .556 1974 Oakland Athletics 90-72 .562 1990 Cincinnati Reds 91-71 .562 1985 Kansas City Royals + Don Denkinger 91-71 .562 1980 Philadelphia Phillies 91-71 .568 1982 Saint Louis Cardinals 92-70 .572 1981 Los Angeles Dodgers 63--47 Under .580 winning percentage MLB World Series Champions - Wild Card Era (1995-2021) - Twelve of Twenty Seven World Series Champions (44%). .516 2006 Saint Louis Cardinals 83-78 => Most pathetic "World Champions" in MLB history .540 2000 New York Yankees 87-74 .543 2014 San Francisco Giants 88-74 .547 2021 Atlanta Racists 88-73 .556 2011 Saint Louis Cardinals 90-72 .562 2003 Florida Marlins 91-71 .568 2010 San Francisco Giants 92-70 .568 2008 Philadelphia Phillies 92-70 .568 2001 Arizona Diamondbacks 92-70 .568 1997 Florida Marlins 92-70 .568 1996 New York Yankees 92-70 .574 2019 Washington Nationals 93-69
