  1. Selfish powerless Moncada with a double, great start to the game!
  2. He has pitched well his time out, Working with Katz in person could help him as well.
  3. Thanks, good article. Hoping Jose Abreu can heat up in the second half. His fWAR impacted by the defense and position hit he takes as a 1B. Anderson’s recent hot stretch has really helped the team as well. White Sox Position Players with >= 1 WAR in 2021 Player PA wRC+ wOBA WAR Yoán Moncada 334 129 .357 2.8 Tim Anderson 330 114 .335 2.4 Yasmani Grandal 215 134 .365 1.9 Nick Madrigal 215 115 .337 1.4 José Abreu 356 117 .339 1.2 Leury García 270 96 .308 1.2 Luis Robert 103 127 .355 1.0
  4. Shirley you can't be serious. Enjoyed the piece, Mike has been a great upgrade in terms of White Sox drafts since his promotion. Excited about Tanner McDougal, love that Avery Weems got a mention.
  5. I'd consider tailgating Over losing a lot of time in lines.
  6. It makes more sense now that Atlanta pulled the trigger with the Cubs, since there were reports the Braves were going to eat around $1M ish of Eaton's deal. They are eating just under $2.0M for Pederson, so they figure Pederson has more upside (health and performance), which most would agree with at this point. The Angels aren't going anywhere, they just need live bodies to finish the season.
  7. I’m hopeful the other heritage days (Italian, Greek, Polish, others) are reinstated in 2022 / 2023 once things get closer to normal. In their defense, they didn’t even know when they could reopen and what numbers they could let in until early June. There still could be new government instituted COVID restrictions later this season, or beyond.
  8. Start with Brooks Boyer (312) 674-1000. They keep Hispanic Heritage night and Halfway to St. Patrick’s day, but snubbed the Italian Americans among other previous Heritage Night groups.
  9. More likely to be with a glove on his hand, vs. a bat in his hands. All kidding aside, glad to see him with solid at bats.
  10. Not sure how you can claim a 22% payroll increase from this year / their all time high ($127M to $156M) is “overly pessimistic”, especially in July with no knowledge as to what if anything the Sox will do in the postseason. Being in the “Top 5” 15 years ago is irrelevant today. The upper revenue teams (Boston NY Cubs LA SF) have widened the revenue advantage over the past 15 years. The 2006 increase came after a substantial increase in revenue, which was certain (increased sold season tickets and across the board ticket price increases) before they increased payroll. If they win the WS, sure, they may pay for both. Talking today, Jerry’s RSN finally got around to authorizing paying for Stone and Benetti’s hotel rooms and meals at the end of the month (ESPN 1000 (locally owned, not Disney) has been paying for the much lower generating radio broadcast team’s travel months ago. So I wouldn’t count on a $53M (over 40% increase to $185M) increase in their largest expense as anywhere close to being certain.
  11. Don't think anyone is trading for Keuchel, if they can get Rodon as a FA for the same or less salary (since the first quote says the $20M discussed on the show, and posted by me is "way too high". Hard to tell what changes will occur, including axing or vastly changing the "luxury tax". A big market team can afford Rodon for 2 or 4 years.
  12. Chicago Hockey Team's "Independent" Law Firm not getting cooperation from several Blackhawks unless they get written guarantees findings will be public. As of today, the Chicago Hockey Team and their paid Legal Firm have not agreed to these terms.
  13. It's solely about the $. Jason Benetti called the RSNs including Jerry Reinsdorf's Regional Sports Network as "hot garbage" . Jason also said the network bitched at him for "not adapting well" and wanted Steve and Jason to announce the games in the NBC Studios in separate rooms. 14. Just realized there is no game until Friday. Miss the historical Thursday restart to the season. CBA allows for one Thursday post ASG game (teams can only be scheduled once for this within the years of the CBA contract). Should be specialty game like the Iowa game, a game in Cooperstown or somewhere else, rather than yet another installment of Red Sox Yankees in the Bronx. Better Schedule: Sunday - All MLB games start at 3 EDT, 2 CDT (like the final regular season day schedule). Futures game played at 7 EDT (currently played when all other games are going on). Monday - Celebrity or Old Timers Game followed by the HR Derby Tuesday - All Star Game Wednesday / Thursday - MLB Draft Take advantage of the full five day window.
  15. It’s not just underperformance. Injuries are a factor, and then you toxic but talented players like Trevor Bauer who Sox Talk collectively wanted more than any other FA this off-season. It’s why I rather focus on completed transactions vs. trade/external FA rumors and debates over leakers and fake fast food twitter handles. I love that those discussions are isolated before the deadline, would be cool if that was a permanent folder.
  16. I say it every off season, a team with a middle payroll ($130M) can’t afford to tie up 20% + in a single player Harper $27M, Manny $32M. You cannot recover from a “bad contract”, with the odds of one becoming bad great as you move beyond age 27-29 seasons. Really need to be very conservative handing out contracts over $10M (7.5%) / year beyond elite younger players.
  17. Obviously penalized for having players using interpreters.
  18. Agreed, but Sox Talk participants aren't paid for their hot takes.
  19. Locked on Sox had a good discussion regarding Lynn / Rodon FA contracts on their podcast (23 minutes in). https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/episode-274-all-star-preview-the-rodon-lynn-decisions/id1486968407?i=1000528696124 The missing piece in their discussion was the budget considerations, but both felt Lynn (2-3 years $15M) and Rodon ($20M + 3-4 years) would be good signings, and that the Sox "could afford both", Since the Sox are at the upper range of all time payroll, I'm not so sure they will spend for both, with the other substantial contracts on the books (assumption for this exercise is Keuchel makes 160 IP this/next year and club picks up these options *, and Arbitration estimates (guesses)); 2022 ($136M): Abreu $19.7M, Grandal $18.3M, Keuchel $18M, Moncada $13.8M, Hendriks $13M, Anderson $9.5M, Jimenez $7.3M, Giolito $6M (A), Robert $6M, Bummer $2.5M, Engel $2.2M (A) (Eaton $1M) + 15 More Players ($19M - most at minimum which may increase with CBA plus a few in the $1M-$3M range) 2023 ($137M): Keuchel $20M, Grandal $18.3M, Moncada $17.8M, Hendriks $14M, Anderson * $12.5M, Jimenez $10.3M, Robert $9.5M, Giolito $8M, Bummer $3.8M, Engel $3.0M + 16 More Players ($20M - most at minimum which may increase with CBA plus a few in the $1M-$3M range) If you're Rick Hahn and given a $155M-$160M budget for 2022 and beyond, what do you do? Sign Rodon at $20M for 3-4 years, Lynn at $15M for 2-3 years, both and trade higher priced contract to make it work, or neither and spend the money on cheaper FA pitchers, trade acquisitions and or hitting.
  20. Moved a million hearts in mono.....
  21. if the Braves want him, they likely figured they don't have to provide any compensation. They only have to pay $252K for the remainder of the season. He'll probably pick them even if another team bids, they have a history of fielding old grinder types in right field. So $7.7M (if claimed) or $8.0M (if not) for a solid April. Meh. .
  22. True, whether it is The Atlantic's staff or PTATC, medical commentators provide their best take/analysis based on prior experience and publicly known data and disclosures. (which is why I "thanked" his post). Just posted this as additional information to consider (the same article had no concerns to date regarding Robert's recovery). Hoping the Sox medical / training team can manage this from afar conservatively, so that there are no setbacks from Eloy pushing it because he 'feels good". Still concerned he is attempting to play LF.
  23. Home runs are not the extent of “power”. Even with Robert out most of the season and Eloy all of it, the Sox rank 9th in MLB in slugging percentage.
