Don't know. Figure I better tread lightly for awhile as I'm still shell shocked from the Jenks Mt. St. Helens situation.

The Chris Sale Thread
I agree that's a tough spot for a ML debut. On the other hand, it was the O's and a small crowd. In hindsight, totally the wrong call by Oz; shoulda waited til we were up 5-1 in a game or down 5-1 cause he wet the bed.

That's why I was asking and not stating. I wonder if he's worth the money or just an average guy. Maybe he's a one-inning guy. What is he?

I know there's no such thing as a jinx, but I felt badly about this game when somebody said they'd be disappointed if we didn't sweep the 4 game series. Hope this is a good wakeup call to the Sox if for some reason they "took Baltimore lightly." Lot of horrid at bats tonight.

The Chris Sale Thread
That four pitch walk was not good. Feel sorry for him, but he was facing the lousy O's with not a huge crowd. It's not like he should have been THAT nervous, but s*** happens, especially in ML debuts. Get em next time, Sale.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 03:04 AM) I have no idea why Ozzie played Lillibridge the whole game. Terrible game all-around. I thought most of us now were in love with Lillibridge? Isn't Juan Pierre a huge goat in this game? Cmon vet ... little hit against a horrible O's team. CQ's double play also was horrid. Should we have bunted the runner over? Hmmm

QUOTE (longshot7 @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 03:19 AM) That's what Rongey is saying in the post-game. Is Tony Pena one very mediocre pitcher? Is he worth the money he gets? That's all I'm asking at this time.

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Aug 6, 2010 -> 03:38 PM) Well, you know how we've been playing teams at the right time lately? Quite the opposite here as the Orioles are RED HOT, having won 3 games in a row. They've swept Texas, Boston, Washington and now the Angels this season, while losing pretty much every other game; I think never winning more than 4 in a row at any point. So with the new manager, this current stretch is in the running for their most inspired ball all year. Bergesen sucks against any team above average, but he did limit the Podsless Royals to 2 runs over 7 innings last time out; arguably one of his better starts all year. According to ESPN, 0% of people have him on their fantasy team. The only argument for them winning this game is the new Showalter effect; not skill, reputation or fundamentals. The Orioles are hot, plus isn't this another one of those teams we usually have trouble with? I'd say 3 of 4 is the goal. Can we get it? Nothing's guaranteed. Why is this a four game set starting on a Friday?

The Stealth Elf does it again!
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 6, 2010 -> 07:23 PM) Indeed. Why is this so hard for so many to understand? I thought everybody recognized that. It seems this board is 100 percent unanimous Kotsay should be out. That's why it grows old to read about him in every single thread. Kotsay sucks. We know. Oz will still play him and KW will still keep him. We know. People that want Kotsay out usually add that they want Viciedo in.

August White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 6, 2010 -> 02:46 PM) Even though Teahen will be back? You know this how? Cause he's been playing every game against righties and just had his best game of the season, which he can ride for at least the next 3 weeks. But obviously I don't know it for sure, just my best guess.

August White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 6, 2010 -> 06:30 AM) Oh it's hard to be angry at Mark personally...it's not like he's trying to hit .218... Ozzie is the one who keeps throwing him out there in a position to fail. Thing is, he's gonna start every game the rest of the season against righties. He just is. We're going to be reading the same tired complaints on here for seven more weeks. He's going nowhere. That's why I'm hoping he somehow takes today and has the best 7 weeks of his life cause he's gonna be playing almost every day.

Jenks will Close again
QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Aug 6, 2010 -> 04:35 AM) Someone has forgotten about the 1-2-3 outings Jenks has had since that awful Twins loss. Also, apparently it's Ozzie's fault that the White Sox finally got to play the weak part of their schedule. Doesn't Ozzie get credit for believing in this team the whole year, when people like you were proclaiming the team dead and vowed to not watch another pitch this season? Ozzie manages the pen almost as good as any manager in baseball. That's not just my opinion either, but that of many scouts and people actually in baseball. If this was twitter, I'd make this a retweet. Go Sox!

August White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 6, 2010 -> 05:18 AM) I HATE YOU BASEBALL TONIGHT. Ravech: Mark Kotsay! He's the kind of play who helps you win divisions. Winfield: Yes he is. He doesn't play everyday but he can play first and the outfield and is very productive. Also, apparently we need to get our bullpen some help??? I dislike Kotsay as well. But look at the bright side. What if he is getting hot? It would be the right time, woudn't it? He definitely sparked the team today, preventing a difficult loss. We'd have split with the struggling Tigers, rather than bagging an impressive 3 of 4 against a division rival on the road. 3 of 4 is pretty damn nice, thanks in large part to Kotsay. I'm just sayin' ... maybe he'll get hot?

How can an actual MLB manager continue to justify playing time for Mar
Dream on, baby. Good post.

How can an actual MLB manager continue to justify playing time for Mar
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 11:48 PM) This might be the best time for Mark to ride off into the sunset and retire. At this stage in his career will we ever see a game like this from him again? That's not how athletes think. I bet he and the Sox are thinking this is the start of something big for him, a big hot streak. It might be the best time, but no way is he thinking that way. He just started both ends of a DH followed by starting again. He's going nowhere obviously.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER
Love the posts on here praising Kotsay. Shows soxtalk is not full of a bunch of ingrates. Konerko witih two more hits as well as Pierre. Just three guys with multi hit games. Kotsay's four RBIs really stand out. We win.

Game Thread: White Sox (61-46) @ Detroit (53-54) 12:05 CDT
QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 07:49 PM) 4 years now. Great times out here! QUOTE (hawksox13 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 09:30 PM) Mark Kotsay flat out won a ball game for the Sox. You have to give the man credit today. Too bad Ozzie will now give him credit today...and tomorrow...and the day after....and the day after that.... Just read the thread, glad to see soxtalkers giving Kotsay the deserved love today. Most people praised him greatly. I had to laugh at this post: "ANY chance in HELL the White Sox can respond the same way the Twins did against the Rays? I say 0%... Miggy leading off the next inning...they should just put Linebrink in and make it pretty automatic." The Sox responded exactly as the Twins did. Good job Sox!

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 07:49 PM) Those Twins are pretty resilient. Down 2 games to none they came back and took the next 2 to split the series against the best team in baseball. This race is going down to the wire. It'll go down to the wire if we play well. They aren't going anywhere. Hopefully we can keep winning.

Is Detroit pitching a righty? He's gonna be playing every day against righties obviously.

G. Walker: Does he now get credit?
QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 04:58 PM) I think he deserves some credit for the change in approach we've seen from the team is a hole. Anyone who still says Walk is a "lift and pull" coach hasn't watched this season at all. That said, he probably didn't have much to do with our struggles or are successes, which is why I was never on the Fire Walk bandwagon. At the very least, good for him for getting the fans off his back. Great post. When the team starts hitting it shuts everybody up and takes away one cliche: "Blame the hitting coach." Oz and KW have said publicly how hard the guy works in good times and bad.

O. Guillen loves him some Kotsay, so removal is out of the equation
It's official. Kotsay is the biggest whipping boy in Soxtalk history. I hope you guys are still able to enjoy the season with Kotsay on the brain, seemingly in every thread. I've never seen anything like this. Good thing I am not in favor of playing Kotsay and don't like him as well or I'd finally be banned for good. I mean we all dislike Kotsay and everybody knows we all dislike Kotsay so should the Kotsay posts slow down? It sure ain't pursuading Oz to bench him.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
Is Cooper a genius? What a great Sox debut for Jackson. Very nice. Paulie, CQ, Beckham, of course I have to mention Bobby. Easy, quck work of the Tigers in the ninth. Jackson, Jackson, Jackson. Hope I'm wrong again. I hated the trade and ate s*** tonight.

How can an actual MLB manager continue to justify playing time for Mar
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 09:29 PM) I dunno about the "lack of controversial columnists" angle. Seems like there have been plenty of controversial sports media personalities in Chicago over the last few years...the problem I see is that the most notorious of them flat out sucked at life. I guess I meant since Mariotti. Chicago doesn't have anybody that harps on an issue over and over and over as we do on this board. If Mariotti didn't think Kotsay was worth a s***, he'd probably harp on it 3 times a week. Not saying that's good writing/reading. But nobody will do that now. I still think the Kotsay thing is worth a story at this time. Oz is prolly thrilled at tonight's 1-for-3 though.

How can an actual MLB manager continue to justify playing time for Mar
QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 09:59 PM) It doesn't seem like the media has taken Ozzie to task on his (over)use of Kotsay whatsoever. Why is that? You read my mind. I was just thinking the same thing. I think it's basically the decline of newspapers. Because of budget cuts, nobody has a "controversial" columnist anymore, one who would just attack the situation and harp on it every single day. The TV guys don't have a forum, really, their sportscasts are too short. That would leave Stoney to tell the truth on it or Darrin Jackson and they can't do that for obvious reasons Somebody should at least write a feature story on Kotsay, however, and get different takes on his suckiness. I dont read the papers online every day; has anybody written a Kotsay piece lately? Or one on what the Sox are going to do when Teahen comes back at least? Unless this is just a soxtalk phenonemon, it would be worth the media discussing it.

Game Thread: White Sox (60-46) @ Detroit (53-53) 6:05pm CDT
QUOTE (docsox24 @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 09:27 PM) Its funny, we all think this and know that he is going to play but we still feel compelled to repeat ourselves over and over again and comment on how much we wish he wasn't playing. I think that is a testament to how bad the situation is. Not me. I expect to see his name in there everyday so I'm used to it and it doesn't anger me at all. If it was up to me, the Tank would play every single day, though, and Mark Kotsay would be a fast fading memory. He's worse than Erstad and that's saying a lot. Oh, maybe just as bad as Erstad.
