  1. Not a bad point. We could have Matsui easily and be b****ing about him. I still think some of the Thome lovers, if they will be honest, would admit they were bashing him at times last season.
  2. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 10:16 PM) Have we ever picked up a pitcher with great stuff but needed some tweaking and that guy has turned it around that same season? Ken Kravek and LaMarr Hoyt. Just kidding, but I liked your question and thought I'd start with an answer so somebody else would.
  3. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 10:13 PM) Maybe they are bringing Dayan along slowly so that he can be a big contributor down the stretch? There is more than 1 strategy on how to handle a young player, and not everyone believes you should just throw them in the fire and hope for the best. Ruining Kotsay's confidence isnt a big deal, ruining Dayan's could end his career. So do I want Dayan to play more? Absolutely. Am I going to make a huge deal out of it while the Sox are in 1st place? Absolutely not. Its not how you get there, its how you finish. If Dayan is raking down the stretch, who cares how he got there? That's a good post. Only disagreement is I think he's been brought along slow enough and probably is ready to play more. And we need the stick.
  4. I don't know, in the winter, teams with money might actually want a guy like Jackson. As long as he's not hurt, there should be a market for him.
  5. Wouldn't you all agree if for some reason Viciedo played in 3/4s of the games the rest of the way, we actually HAVE added something to the team? The problem is everybody figures, probably rightly so, he will be sent down or not play much.
  6. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 10:06 PM) ? He's trying to be nice and not rip Ozzie some more.
  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 10:04 PM) I actually like Jones as a defensive replacement, occassional PH for $500k right now. I actually agree and I dislike Jones. Nice to see him in there in the late innings in right. Just release Kotsay (I know we can't, though, he's too good for clubhouse). We better send Lilly down and keep Viciedo up here.
  8. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 10:02 PM) Dunn wasn't going to resign anyways. Just say the Nationals wanted too much for a rental, so we said no. Don't bring up payroll constraints when you just acquired a pitcher who makes 8 million dollars next year and needs to be fixed. It rings hollow. It may ring hollow, but Jackson is a rental. He'll be traded this offseason for sure unless we trade Mark or we are freed of Paulie's contract, etc.
  9. QUOTE (G&T @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 09:57 PM) KW says: Wasn't going to take away from this club (obviously Viciedo) for a rental. Didn't believe they could sign Dunn because he claims they are strapped for cash (obviously that's questionable). And that's all. I agree we couldn't have won the Dunn sweepstakes unless he sucked with us for 2 months. But Jackson is making a lot too. Obviously we will try to dump him in the offseason. Makes too much jack.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 09:56 PM) greg, problem is that even though we'd all like that, the truth is the thought process with Ozzie is almost the total opposite I know, that's why I suggested the 3 person meeting. Oz won't DH Dayan on his own. He loves Kotsay/Jones too much as well as Omar at third. I just think since we didn't make a move we need some real pop and only Viciedo can provide it except for Jones' occasional homer.
  11. So Jackson woulda gone to Houston with whom?
  12. I do not think it would be the same bulls*** if KW would meet with Oz and Jerry and the three of them decide to dump Kotsay and give ALL the DH time to Viciedo/Teahen (mild yuk) and play Viciedo at third the other days. I think the guy can hit.
  13. Let's not flatter our Website (I can call it "our website can't I) too much. This is one portion of rabid fandom. I think there are plenty of fans not as "crazy" as ones on here. Since we had to give up Beckham or Viciedo I am glad we made no deals. I just hope in the offseason KW resists trading those two guys again.
  14. But the team won. I can't see how you and others can't see that something is working. Not every slot in the order is going to produce. I am all for dumping Kotsay. I want Viciedo as regular 3B/DH. But he's here and I think our manager is doing a good job, yes even with the lineups. Like I said recently one South Sider told me he liked Ozzie for never giving up on the team like Lou gave up on the Cubs.
  15. I'll take a vote. First 10 votes will win. Should I continue defending Ozzie in posts like this or not and just give up? We are in first place. We are 19-1 at home in our last 20 games. Why is Ozzie an idiot? Do you think we just win without his input at all??? Thome did not get universal support on here last year. I love the guy but he did have some faults as well. I do love Jim Thome but we are in first place with a team that shows heart. Our manager is an idiot when it comes to offense? I think the record shows otherwise. And I am all for Viciedo as regular DH.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 08:03 PM) Yeah, I don't know why I wouldn't want our hottest bat in the lineup more. If you want to DH him, fine, but in baseball you have regulars and backups and AJ is the regular the rest of the season, probably the rest of his career here until we trade him or he leaves as a free agent. Like he said, AJ did a great job catching the guy making his debut. Why would anybody want Castro catching him?
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 08:39 PM) AJ was dynamite last night. Not just with the bats, but he pulled off a miracle keeping Harrell's brain together. Yeah, he was great. I don't understand why some want Castro to play a lot more. He's great in his current role.
  18. QUOTE (Tex @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 04:08 PM) Fans were trying to help the kid as much as humanly possible. After each inning, fans behind the dugout were standing a cheering. The ovation after the third was as genuine as I've ever heard for a player. When Lucas came into the dugout after the sixth I thought he was going to have to make a curtain call. Special stuff. Sad that no matter what he did, he was going back down. That is awesome. That's what makes Sox fans so good and why something dumb like the wave should never happen. Our fans are like this story. Awesome. Not cliche and imbecilic like doing the wave.
  19. It seems odd, then that Castro didn't start yesterday or today vs. lefties if his workload is increasing. Tomorrow's start is not surprising and he should start one of the DH games obviously. Also I thought Oz's quote was pretty standard like, "Castro is making it hard for me not to play him." That's a good way of pumping up Castro and lighting a competitive fire in AJ w/out pissing him off too much.
  20. I thought we almost blew Game One. The game Bobby blew is just a carbon copy of what they've done to us many times in the recent past. I listened to the Score last night and all the callers were assuming we had the division and were talking about the playoffs when we'll face the Yankees in Round One. I don't get it. Minnie has our number. I have to see it to believe it regarding us beating them out. One Score caller said we'd win the division by at least eight games.
  21. Oh, then I should have left my post saying it's obvious Kotsay will play against righties every single game and that's just a fact. Fathom, you are a smart guy, why do you waste the mental energy thinking Castro should or could play more than he has? AJ is the starting catcher and that's a fact for the rest of this season. He'll catch all the days except when Freddy pitches and/or AJ needs a day off. No way in hell Oz is going to reduce AJ's role. It will not happen this season.
  22. I don't think we are going to beat out Minnesota even after we make the Dunn trade. I just hope KW is in love with Beckham/Viciedo and doesn't deal them. I think it'd be a huge mistake. I have to see it to believe it as far as us beating out those bastards from Minnesota for the division title even if we get Dunn. Minnie I feel is the strong favorite. They just about swept us in a four game series just a few days ago.
  23. Oops, deleted my post. Thought for sure Kotsay would be in vs. a righty. Is Oz tiring of his outs?
  24. I dunno, but I'd hate to see us deal Danks I. He's seemingly special. Ditto Viciedo and Beckham. Don't want to see them go. I'm falling more and more in love with Paulie's defense believe it or not. That coupled with his still steady bat makes for a guy I wouldn't mind sticking around. Lexi is another guy I'm falling for. Maybe this offseason will be the year we drop the salaries of Mark and Jenks. Who knows? I just hope we don't make a dumb trade tomorrow and hope we make the playoffs.
  25. That made me laugh. Good line. Isn't he a fourth round pick, though? Fourth round is pretty high. Could he be a sleeper? Kind of a guy who gets by in the bigs? A skinny LaMarr Hoyt?
