  1. Wow. Did he do that? If so, that's sad. Maybe one of the injured you mention will publicly blast Tony for this.
  2. I respect Tony's statement: "Our team's record this season is the final reality," La Russa said in the statement. "It is an unacceptable disappointment. There were some pluses, but too many minuses. In the Major Leagues, you either do or you don't. Explanations come across as excuses. Respect and trust demand accountability, and during my managerial career, I understood that the ultimate responsibility for each minus belongs to the manager. I was hired to provide positive, difference-making leadership and support. Our record is proof. I did not do my job." -- I mean he publicly states he was an abject failure. To pile on IMO is unnecessary. It didn't work out. We also as fans don't know if these players just don't have "it." Was Tony managing a bunch of non-winners? Possibly. I'm just saying I respect him for 100 percent blaming himself. I know some can't forgive him for the second DUI. Whatever. It's inexcusable, yes. Do I know individuals who have had two DUIs and not spent more than overnight in jail? Yes. Have I removed them from my life because of my horror in their behavior? No. Yes he disappoints me for the dual DUIs. But I still commend him for a fine career, a Hall of Fame career, and trying to manage the White Sox to success. DUI? Yes shame on him. But it doesn't make him the scourge of the earth, either. Thanx for trying Tony. I have no doubt you gave it a good effort. These two teams were two of my least fave in Sox history but I don't blame u completely.
  3. I'd take Joe Maddon but he'd prolly drive me crazy with more analytics. Using openers, etc.
  4. Tony's second White Sox tenure was an unmitigated disaster. No offense to Tony. Aging is unavoidable and he was a walking old guy. Only thing worse than Tony was the alarming amount of injuries in his tenure. That's either because we draft injury prone players or we have an abysmal training program/staff of docs and trainers.
  5. LOL more games against the Twins. Thanks baseball for all these years of playing Central team 19 times. Fricking ridiculous. Fans will put up with anything. Sox vs. Twins ... YAWN!!
  6. Don't hire a former Sox player unless he has significant managing experience. Frankly I'd hire Ozzie again with a lot of $$ stipulations (penalties) if he opens his mouth and utters anything controversial. He must be getting better at speaking his mind without getting canceled. He hasn't said anything as an analyst the past many years that's made headlines. I guess there's the risk of picketers retrieving stuff he said in the past and causing trouble if he returns. Things said in the past seem to be cause for worldly consternation these days. I'd choose him though.
  7. Listen to this and tell me you still hate Ozzie. Cmon. The guy is a lovable chatterbox who I'd love to see come back and manage the team. He's worth the gamble. Just tell him look, ONE time you comment on something besides baseball you are GONE. Set the parameters.
  8. So many guys had bad seasons it'll be tough to deal them. Please get rid of Grandal and Moncada and Pollock and start from there. Maybe try to build up a team strength in one area. That area should be pitching. Cease is a legitimate star to top a rotation. Build a strong starting rotation, make sure you have two reliable relievers on the team to go with a closer. I'd say improve all facets of the team but that'll be impossible to do in one offseason. Hitting, defense and pitching are all laughable. But Sox allegedly have a few good pitchers for a pitching coach to work with: Cease, Giolito, Kopech, Liam and I guess Lopez. Rehire Coop to work with those five pitchers and find next year's Cueto and some other guys. Put all the FO efforts on pitching to try to get back to respectability. Too many holes to work on everything. Building a lights out rotation and bullpen would give the fans SOMETHING to get enthused about again. Going into ST with the same guys pretty much assures a rotten April unless the new manager is a miracle worker. p.s. I can understand people wanting to let Abreu go. It just seems like a failed argument when he was one of the only reasons to go to a game this year. Kind of a "fan" thing to want to get rid of the team's most reliable player, though I understand it's nothing personal. Just seems weird to clamor to get rid of the one guy who wanted to win more than others and actually hit .300 in the year of the decrepit batting averages.
  9. For the life of me I can't figure out why the Sox are playing big leaguers this last week and a half. Just shut down this wretched team and let the minor leaguers play and lose instead of these quitters.
  10. Man, you are a great fan to buy tickets with no guarantee all the lousy hitters/pitchers will be gone. Good for u. You must love being in a MLB ballpark. It is a happy space by nature.
  11. Nah. What's going to change injury wise? The bottom line is Sox defense is below average (I'm being kind). Sox pitching is WAY below acceptable. And Sox have half a lineup of not automatic outs, but close to it. It's not going to magically improve. Grandal, Pollock, Harrison, Leury, Moncada cannot hit. We have no real run producers (RBI men) now that Jose is older (I don't count Eloy and Robert cause of injuries). Frankly unless Vaughn and Sheets turn into true superstars the team is WAY below .500 next year. Pitching really concerns me. Sox bullpen cannot cover 4 innings a night. Starters are mediocre (Cease is very good).

Why can't they just promote 5-6 AAA guys and let them get sosme at bats in the bigs? There's simply no reason to give these underachievers any more at bats this season.
  13. Can you believe how bad this team is? This losing streak assures a sub .500 record. Has to be one of the worst seasons of Reinsdorf's ownership. And the future? This is the first time (not counting the ridiculous tank years) in a long time the team has had this bad a team and this bad an outlook for the future.

What's funny is even with Jerry owning the team all these years and employing so many awful advance scouts and talent evaluators, the Sox thru the years have not been an embarrassment til just recently during the Tony era. Weird how we bring in the old Hall of Famer who should be our best manager and he's by far the worst. If I had to describe the Sox now I'd scout them and say: "The Chicago White Sox are a team with several everyday players who look like thoroughbreds in uniform. Tall, rangy bodies who look like they can crush the ball but in reality are injury prone young players who project to be above average if they can stay on the field. ... The White Sox also have a pitching staff that yearly is severely overrated both in starters and bullpen guys. Finally the Sox appear to be a lethargic team with a manager whose low key approach doesn;'t' seem to inspire the younger players at all. In conclusion this team appears to be a C-minus on a grade scale with the potential in its current situation to improve to a B-minus at best."
  15. Those who hate me on this board won't have me around anymore if they do another rebuild. That's when I sadly quit baseball. If they start trying to lose again, I'm done with the sport.
  16. Folks should be fired for signing Grandal. Folks should be fired for acquiring Moncada. Folks should be fired for acquiring Keuchel and Kelly and many other lousy pitchers on the roster. Also folks should be fired for signing Pollock and Harrison. Horrible.

This current stretch is rock bottom. Sox suddenly have a horrific nucleus for next season. There should be some sort of rebuild plan coming that does not involve tanking for 5 years and the draft. First step is to attempt to get rid of the many lousy players on this team so there's some money to spend, I know ... lol, good luck with that. If they could somehow trade Moncada and Grandal that'd be a nice start. Maybe on a cold, sleety January evening some dumb GM would trade for those 2.

Good for the Guardians. Teams that win the Central Division actually get fired up to play Central Division teams. Sox could never handle the unbalanced schedule. They have been owned by the Central teams in the 19-game series each season. And oh goodie, more Central games coming up vs. Minnie. This unbalanced schedule has ruined baseball in my opinion. Sickening to play these same teams over and over. Sox players get paid good money though to play in these boring games. They get an F for their performance vs. The Central. Tony shiould be embbarrassed at his part in all this too.
  19. First time I've ever wanted a season to end. Not hyperbole. This team, combined with playing in the worst era in baseball history regarding rules of the game, stupid playoff formats, dead ball one year live ball the next, tanking b.s., is just clamoring for the offseason. Thus the slogan: Sox baseball: "We look good in the winter after a few moves; we reek from April til October."
  20. You said it. Sox have no chance now for the first time in a while. Not counting the years when they were trying to lose, this is the bleakest future for the franchise in a long time. I don't even know what they can do. I would think if they can stay a .500 team that in itself would be a miracle. Play .500 and hope some guys emerge as stars like AV.
  21. My goodness. The White Sox cannot beat Central Division teams. Embarrassing.
  22. I've watched less this year than any year in my life, but still usually catch a few innings of every game and definitely open the box score, mainly to see if Jose is still around .310. Hahn needs to return to building a team that fits GRate Field. It's still a good home run park even with the dead ball. On another note, I remember in 2005 thinking how great it's going to be to dominate the division for years to come with Ozzie at the helm leading the way. I never ever though anything but Ozzie being the Sox Tom Lasorda and the Sox ruling the division like the Braves did theirs that long stretch under Cox. Unfortunately Oz imploded cause his ego grew even bigger and bigger and he couldn't shut up to the press and worship his kids instead of telling them to shut up. I would have never thought the Sox would not win another title after 05. Never. Now the club is a total mess. It needs so much you'd have to call what it needs a "rebuild." Ugh I hate to do that.
  23. I'm surprised u've given up on him. I kinda feel like he's the Sox one true prospect. I'm not as high on Eloy any more. Robert is so disappointing with injuries, too.
  24. Is there any chance AV is young enuf to improve defensively? He's had a pretty dandy year for a 24-year old. Isn't there a slight chance if he works on the lift and pull thing he could hit 40-50 HRs a year (especially the years there's a live ball)?
  25. Just tuned in. Wonder if Jerry R cares enough to make wholesale changes. This team not only blows chunks but is unlikeable.
