AJ Pollock declines option, becomes FA
Thank goodness he's gone. Obviously he despises the organization and realizes the team is going nowhere.

Rats. I hope Q and the guys treat this as the Prep Bowl final or the state title game. Carmel is too dominant. I thought I read Rice has a defensive lineman going to Wisky and the RB is an NIU recruit.,. We have some talent. The guys would have to have a repeat of the Collinsville game. ... Is the game Saturday? Sounds funny but it must be tough for these high school teams to get to games on Friday's with rush hour. When I went to BR I ran cross country and most of the meets were on Saturdays.

Your 2023 Off-Season Plan
What did Heyman say? Have the Sox said for sure they are letting Jose walk? Amazes me when a fan base accepts and in some cases wants their best player to take a hike when that means some other teams will bid for the same guy. Considering the Sox track record, if they find five or more other teams thinking about offering Jose or offering Jose, I hope they reverse course and realize it'd be smart to sign the guy. If other teams want Jose ... it's not like Sox scouts have distinguished themselves at all in judging talent. ... It's amazing how Jose's age is a factor. We act like he's ready for social security. He's about to enter his age 36 season. I'd sign him to a two-year deal with a third year club option. At 12 mill a year. ... I know, we have too many DH/1B types. We need Jose to walk so Eloy is DH with Sheets and Vaughn is 1B. I tell u I'd rank the guys in this order of who I want: 1. Eloy. 2. Jose. 3. Vaughn. 4. Sheets. Grandal is the guy u get rid of folks.

I watched the Collinsville game. For a second round playoff game, I credit Br Rice for total domination. I don't think I've ever seen BR dominate like that against a good opponent. I'm thinking coach Q knows the team's strengths and weaknesses and right now has simplified things to let the guys do what they do best. Rice's starting QB got hurt and they put in the guy who started the season and he was great. RBs of Rice dominated and the defense was fine, too. If they relax and play like that, mabe they can give Mt. Carmel a game in the quarters. Regardless that Collinsville game made it a successful season if indeed they are young with a lot of guys back. Congrats to that team for a near flawless game vs. Collinsville.

The State of the Sox...
The Sox are a mess. The last game of the season says it all. 10-0 loss right? To Minnie? Sox appear to be a team that doesn't care when it plays a Central Division team. The team generally plays well against teams in other divisions. They can't be bothered to excel against their division neighbors. The manager hire is a big yawn which is fine. It's the same as most teams managers. Renteria should still be manager. At least the teams were exciting. Sad state of affairs. Sox sadly are going nowhere. Not sure what it will take to get the team to wake up.

Pedro Grifol named White Sox manager; Katz asked to return per Rosey
Welcome to the era of invisible manager. This is what most teams do. Sox finally have a normal guy who will make the decisions and mutter boring comments. First step toward conforming with the rest of the league. Not saying it's a bad thing. It's fine. Now get some players and maybe win divisions.

White Sox Mgr Speculation Thread
If it's between Ozzie and Long, pick Ozzie. Why do we want a hitting coach? If Sox are gonna go with Long, why not Oz or Washington or Joe Girardi. Girardi is only 58. Why not him?? I'm not thrilled about Long.

White Sox Mgr Speculation Thread
Good points. Ozzie certainly should not have control over the roster. Of course managers have their faves but Ozz shouldn't have been allowed so much power re. personnel decisions if indeed he did.

White Sox Mgr Speculation Thread
Hasn't Ozzie been pretty non controversial in his analysis on TV and all the radio shows he goes on regarding the Sox? Hasn't he been pretty fair to the team as well? He hasn't gone on any wild tangents about the team's ineptitude or politics has he? A decent sign there.

This is weird. He is a perfect choice for Sox manager. Why is he out? My choices obviously were/are 1. Ozz. 1A: Espada.

White Sox Mgr Speculation Thread
Actually he didn't but with all the major players still with the White Sox (Oz, KW, Jerry), you'd think the Sox would say thanks but no thanks to Oz. There's no way KW will allow the Sox to bring back Oz when KW relationship with Oz is a huge reason Oz quit on the team and left Chicago for Miami. ... This Oz talk is kind of disrespectful to everybody on the Sox. True I worship Oz in a baseball sense of the word, but it's not like he has to be considered for the opening especially considering the past bad blood. I betcha it's Astros bench coach to be announced at the end of the WS. Prolly after the parade in Houston.
-
White Sox Mgr Speculation Thread
Just think how many years it would be since the Sox won a WS if Oz had not been our skipper. Scary thought.
-
White Sox Mgr Speculation Thread
Espada will be your next skipper. That's my take. Sox have to be hoping Astros win it all for more positive pub from the hire. ... He's an obvious no brainer choice. Bench coach at a powerhouse winner. p.s. if Oz didn't have personal baggage IMO he'd actually be a good choice of the Royals. Think about the fit from a baseball sense.

I agree unfortunately. If hired the Sox would be the only sports organization going against cancel culture deliberately and just asking for pickets, boycotts, etc. Ozzie unfortuntely has said some things that got him canceled. That's Oz's fault and in 2022 you can't come back from that. The fact he's on TV is a miracle in itself. The Sox can't be 100 percent sure they'd be hiring a guy who brings out severe backlash from the organizations/people responsible for canceling him. Sox don't need that grief with so many candidates out there who haven't said offensive things in the past. Hence he won't be the choice IMO. No need to cry for Ozzeroo obviously. He has to make top dollar as an analyst and made top dollar as a player/manager. To repeat my broken record, I will rejoice if he's named skipper but won't happen. I would bet big bucks if there's a website with odds.

Harry, as u know we beat Jacobs 28-0. We can beat Collinsville! If BR can beat Collinsville then beat Carmel I will be an ecstatic coach Q fan. Please tell me he played a lot of the younger kids tonight and that's why Rice excelled. Is he splashing more sophs into the lineup? Go BR.

Serious question: Is greg the only Sox fan on this board who activity wants Ozz to get the job? Put me in Oz's corner. Anybody with me?

White Sox Mgr Speculation Thread
As much as I love Ozzie, this hire should not be that difficult. Guess what folks? You actually hire somebody (they have to be out there) like Rob Thomson (I realize he's not available). Resume: A guy who has worked next to winners who has had some taste of winning organization. Somebody in his 50s or early 60s like Thomson who knows baseball. I realize this would mean you look at guys also like Matheny who classifies in my job description and I realize he's despised. But "somebody" with the resume of Thomson. A totally knowledgable man who in being in MLB all his life probably likes some aspects of Sabes but is not a staunch inflexible statnik. Get a guy who has been in baseball a long time, knows the game in and out, is not a jerk, has helped some individual players who can speak on his behalf. If you are not gonna do something WILD like Oz or Thome or AJP, then find me a Rob Thomson clone. Give me a guy who has the resume in MLB but has never been given the chance.

If they name Ozzie I'd be so happy I'd not know what to do. I'd act like George Bailey when he returns from the darkside.

White Sox lost 4th most production to injuries in 22
Good thread. Next to acquiring talent, the medical staff is the most important part of a franchise. Sox need to wake up and get to the top of the chain in regards to trainers/doctors. Injuries basically sabotaged this rebuild. It's ridiculous to have injuries all through the roster. It seems like ol' Jose is the only guy who never gets hurt. Look at the Sox, Grandal (hurt), Moncada (hurt), Timmy (hurt), Harrison (also missed time), Jose (healthy), Eloy (hurt), Robert (hurt), Eaton (hurt), Vaughn n Sheets (healthy), Leury (didn't he miss some time as well), pitchers, some of 'em hurt or missed time. Liam (healthy).

It takes forward thinking. I suggest we formally merge with McAuley. It's time. Campuses are pretty close to each other. Some computer genius could figure a way to have kids attend 3/4 of their daily classes at one of the schools. Won't hurt kids to make the relatively long walk once a day from Rice's building to McAuley's. Once we formally merge schools, go on the recruiting trail. Get the enrollment as high as humanly possible. Just call the school Rice. Take out the word brother. I'm pretty sure the order of Irish Christian Brothers is about extinct. There were only 900 brothers world wide in 2017. There are some incredible schools in suburbia. Make the new Rice HS state of the art in all areas, have it be the No. 1 college prep school in the Midwest. Think big. If Marist is expanding, Rice must answer. I'd think a majority of the southsiders would rather go to a coed school than all boys or all girls thus Marist has an advantage.

Will Abreu be a White Sox in 2023?
OK, i'll drop it but I find it tough to stifle when it comes to Abreu and Ozz both. Two of my all time favorites.

Will Abreu be a White Sox in 2023?
Yermin, a Q: You don't like Abreu but seem to think it's reasonable a great organization like Houston would want him. Isn't this a total non sequitir? Why would the Astros want a player that u deem so flawed?

Nice on the 16-2. Any special talent in those groups?

Illinois High School Football Thread
Hey Harry any way our boys can beat Jacobs? I've never ever heard of Jacobs. Never. I watched several Rice games on the internet again this year. The second half of the Marist game was weird. Rice got flattened after leading earlier in the game. I fear this is a new era coming: mediocrity to lousiness. I am skeptical the veteran hoops coach will keep going what Bobby Frasor started. Seems like a weird hire. Is coach Q beloved at Rice or ? I will say the football team had some good moments this year (we played either loyola or carmel close as I recall) but overall I feel the Crusaders lacked special talent. BR baby!
