  1. I read the story. It's kind of neat Jose wanted to take in the sights and sounds and smells watching the game with Cairo. He probably was feeling out whether he could envision managing someday. With no reason to play, it's neat he enjoyed just hanging out.
  2. First time in my life as a Sox fan I've felt this way at the end of a season. No hyperbole. Yes thank goodness this season is OVA. I just see a lot of unlikeable players and really no possible scenario that this thing gets turned around anytime soon. I wonder if Hawk sensed what was coming when he retired. Don't know how he'd have handled calling these boring games.
  3. No comment from greg. Condolences to anybody whose been ripped off though.
  4. A 10-1 loss to end the season? How fitting. Did they boo the bums off the field? Or would that be a little overkill. By far the least enjoyable season of my entire life. This team stunk. Even though we had some decent starting pitchers, I personally did not care to watch them go their five innings. I watched most games on MLB but usually the last 4-5 innings for the dull parade of relievers. For me personally all I cared about was following Jose's BA. That's truly it. The injuries angered me beyond belief. A couple times I was sucked in and hopeful the Sox would turn it on. I think we got 4 or 5 over .500 and it looked like Cairo might lead us to greatness.postseson ball. That horrific stretch the past couple weeks is embarrassing and heads should roll. The Sox were a disgrace to their fans this season despite the .500 record. I feel unless there's total revamping of roster team will be even worse next season. Get rid of Harrison, Grandal, Moncada, Pollock, almost the entire bullpen for starters. Get rid of Leury and our other utility players including Elvis. Keep Eloy and Robert and TA but send them to specialists to give them a training regimen to avoid injuries. Good luck Hahn. Your team stunk.
  5. I wonder what team Jose will pick if he leaves. My guess is some AL East team that needs a bat, a leader and winner. Hope it's the Cubs though. Keep Chicago icons in Chicago. Hopefully Jerry demands we sign Jose. If I owned the team I would. Jerry's been signing Jose's checks I assume and Jose deserves to leave the Sox only if he wants to.
  6. Yes I supported keeping Paulie 100 percent.
  7. If Jose is a free agent I hope he stays in Chicago. Let him play 3 solid seasons for the Cubs if the Sox don't want him. He's not finished folks. I get madder and madder when I see people think it actually would help the Sox for him to leave. I love me some Abreu.
  8. It just frustrates me that Sox fans (not you) want to get rid of the familiar, consistent guy. In my world Jose is a Sox forever, til he turns into Konerko during Konerko's last season He is at .304, 15 HR and 75 RBI. Not bad for the era in which hitters production is way down. His defense has been fine. What I'm saying is he remains by far the team's best everyday player (not counting Cease). Just leave the guy at 1B rather than have some AL East team pick him up and be happy with him 3 more years or so. Trade Sheets or Vaughn if you have to but keep Jose for gosh sakes. So what if he makes a lot more outs than he used to. Everybody does in this era of 5 inning starters followed by the one inning relief wonders who finish games by striking out guys like Jose. Two fastballsl get fouled off, chase the slider in the dirt, Sit down, boring baseball.
  9. I can accept that theory. Thanks for actual answer to my puzzlement. I happen to think Jose could be given the late career Konerko contract minimum. How bout 2 years 17-18 million. Add an incentive or two if they still put those in contracts. For Jose how bout incentive for 95 RBI and 27 homers.
  10. I always laugh when Sox fans clamor to get rid of a proven White Sox veteran and beloved player, the team's player of the year. Cause for Jose to leave the Sox that means some other team and all its analysts that sign him for good money think he still has another good year or two or three left in him. Some team is gonna sign him for significant cash, why not the Sox? Again his reward for being our best player is "thanx, see ya buddy; we'll bring u back when the statue is constructed and ready to put up." When did modern baseball sabes people decide 35 is ancient? Used to be they'd go to 39 minimum if they were "name" stars. There have been some exceptions. There just seems something wrong in wanting Sox best player this season to take a hike. It's weird, frankly.
  11. If the Phillies dismiss Rob Thompson, he should be the man. Won't be, but should be IMO.
  12. Wow. Did he do that? If so, that's sad. Maybe one of the injured you mention will publicly blast Tony for this.
  13. I respect Tony's statement: "Our team's record this season is the final reality," La Russa said in the statement. "It is an unacceptable disappointment. There were some pluses, but too many minuses. In the Major Leagues, you either do or you don't. Explanations come across as excuses. Respect and trust demand accountability, and during my managerial career, I understood that the ultimate responsibility for each minus belongs to the manager. I was hired to provide positive, difference-making leadership and support. Our record is proof. I did not do my job." -- I mean he publicly states he was an abject failure. To pile on IMO is unnecessary. It didn't work out. We also as fans don't know if these players just don't have "it." Was Tony managing a bunch of non-winners? Possibly. I'm just saying I respect him for 100 percent blaming himself. I know some can't forgive him for the second DUI. Whatever. It's inexcusable, yes. Do I know individuals who have had two DUIs and not spent more than overnight in jail? Yes. Have I removed them from my life because of my horror in their behavior? No. Yes he disappoints me for the dual DUIs. But I still commend him for a fine career, a Hall of Fame career, and trying to manage the White Sox to success. DUI? Yes shame on him. But it doesn't make him the scourge of the earth, either. Thanx for trying Tony. I have no doubt you gave it a good effort. These two teams were two of my least fave in Sox history but I don't blame u completely.
  14. I'd take Joe Maddon but he'd prolly drive me crazy with more analytics. Using openers, etc.
  15. Tony's second White Sox tenure was an unmitigated disaster. No offense to Tony. Aging is unavoidable and he was a walking old guy. Only thing worse than Tony was the alarming amount of injuries in his tenure. That's either because we draft injury prone players or we have an abysmal training program/staff of docs and trainers.
  16. LOL more games against the Twins. Thanks baseball for all these years of playing Central team 19 times. Fricking ridiculous. Fans will put up with anything. Sox vs. Twins ... YAWN!!
  17. Don't hire a former Sox player unless he has significant managing experience. Frankly I'd hire Ozzie again with a lot of $$ stipulations (penalties) if he opens his mouth and utters anything controversial. He must be getting better at speaking his mind without getting canceled. He hasn't said anything as an analyst the past many years that's made headlines. I guess there's the risk of picketers retrieving stuff he said in the past and causing trouble if he returns. Things said in the past seem to be cause for worldly consternation these days. I'd choose him though.
  18. Listen to this and tell me you still hate Ozzie. Cmon. The guy is a lovable chatterbox who I'd love to see come back and manage the team. He's worth the gamble. Just tell him look, ONE time you comment on something besides baseball you are GONE. Set the parameters.
  19. So many guys had bad seasons it'll be tough to deal them. Please get rid of Grandal and Moncada and Pollock and start from there. Maybe try to build up a team strength in one area. That area should be pitching. Cease is a legitimate star to top a rotation. Build a strong starting rotation, make sure you have two reliable relievers on the team to go with a closer. I'd say improve all facets of the team but that'll be impossible to do in one offseason. Hitting, defense and pitching are all laughable. But Sox allegedly have a few good pitchers for a pitching coach to work with: Cease, Giolito, Kopech, Liam and I guess Lopez. Rehire Coop to work with those five pitchers and find next year's Cueto and some other guys. Put all the FO efforts on pitching to try to get back to respectability. Too many holes to work on everything. Building a lights out rotation and bullpen would give the fans SOMETHING to get enthused about again. Going into ST with the same guys pretty much assures a rotten April unless the new manager is a miracle worker. p.s. I can understand people wanting to let Abreu go. It just seems like a failed argument when he was one of the only reasons to go to a game this year. Kind of a "fan" thing to want to get rid of the team's most reliable player, though I understand it's nothing personal. Just seems weird to clamor to get rid of the one guy who wanted to win more than others and actually hit .300 in the year of the decrepit batting averages.
  20. For the life of me I can't figure out why the Sox are playing big leaguers this last week and a half. Just shut down this wretched team and let the minor leaguers play and lose instead of these quitters.
  21. Man, you are a great fan to buy tickets with no guarantee all the lousy hitters/pitchers will be gone. Good for u. You must love being in a MLB ballpark. It is a happy space by nature.
  22. Nah. What's going to change injury wise? The bottom line is Sox defense is below average (I'm being kind). Sox pitching is WAY below acceptable. And Sox have half a lineup of not automatic outs, but close to it. It's not going to magically improve. Grandal, Pollock, Harrison, Leury, Moncada cannot hit. We have no real run producers (RBI men) now that Jose is older (I don't count Eloy and Robert cause of injuries). Frankly unless Vaughn and Sheets turn into true superstars the team is WAY below .500 next year. Pitching really concerns me. Sox bullpen cannot cover 4 innings a night. Starters are mediocre (Cease is very good).

Why can't they just promote 5-6 AAA guys and let them get sosme at bats in the bigs? There's simply no reason to give these underachievers any more at bats this season.
  24. Can you believe how bad this team is? This losing streak assures a sub .500 record. Has to be one of the worst seasons of Reinsdorf's ownership. And the future? This is the first time (not counting the ridiculous tank years) in a long time the team has had this bad a team and this bad an outlook for the future.

What's funny is even with Jerry owning the team all these years and employing so many awful advance scouts and talent evaluators, the Sox thru the years have not been an embarrassment til just recently during the Tony era. Weird how we bring in the old Hall of Famer who should be our best manager and he's by far the worst. If I had to describe the Sox now I'd scout them and say: "The Chicago White Sox are a team with several everyday players who look like thoroughbreds in uniform. Tall, rangy bodies who look like they can crush the ball but in reality are injury prone young players who project to be above average if they can stay on the field. ... The White Sox also have a pitching staff that yearly is severely overrated both in starters and bullpen guys. Finally the Sox appear to be a lethargic team with a manager whose low key approach doesn;'t' seem to inspire the younger players at all. In conclusion this team appears to be a C-minus on a grade scale with the potential in its current situation to improve to a B-minus at best."
