  1. Just think how many years it would be since the Sox won a WS if Oz had not been our skipper. Scary thought.
  2. Espada will be your next skipper. That's my take. Sox have to be hoping Astros win it all for more positive pub from the hire. ... He's an obvious no brainer choice. Bench coach at a powerhouse winner. p.s. if Oz didn't have personal baggage IMO he'd actually be a good choice of the Royals. Think about the fit from a baseball sense.
  3. I agree unfortunately. If hired the Sox would be the only sports organization going against cancel culture deliberately and just asking for pickets, boycotts, etc. Ozzie unfortuntely has said some things that got him canceled. That's Oz's fault and in 2022 you can't come back from that. The fact he's on TV is a miracle in itself. The Sox can't be 100 percent sure they'd be hiring a guy who brings out severe backlash from the organizations/people responsible for canceling him. Sox don't need that grief with so many candidates out there who haven't said offensive things in the past. Hence he won't be the choice IMO. No need to cry for Ozzeroo obviously. He has to make top dollar as an analyst and made top dollar as a player/manager. To repeat my broken record, I will rejoice if he's named skipper but won't happen. I would bet big bucks if there's a website with odds.
  4. Harry, as u know we beat Jacobs 28-0. We can beat Collinsville! If BR can beat Collinsville then beat Carmel I will be an ecstatic coach Q fan. Please tell me he played a lot of the younger kids tonight and that's why Rice excelled. Is he splashing more sophs into the lineup? Go BR.
  5. Serious question: Is greg the only Sox fan on this board who activity wants Ozz to get the job? Put me in Oz's corner. Anybody with me?
  6. As much as I love Ozzie, this hire should not be that difficult. Guess what folks? You actually hire somebody (they have to be out there) like Rob Thomson (I realize he's not available). Resume: A guy who has worked next to winners who has had some taste of winning organization. Somebody in his 50s or early 60s like Thomson who knows baseball. I realize this would mean you look at guys also like Matheny who classifies in my job description and I realize he's despised. But "somebody" with the resume of Thomson. A totally knowledgable man who in being in MLB all his life probably likes some aspects of Sabes but is not a staunch inflexible statnik. Get a guy who has been in baseball a long time, knows the game in and out, is not a jerk, has helped some individual players who can speak on his behalf. If you are not gonna do something WILD like Oz or Thome or AJP, then find me a Rob Thomson clone. Give me a guy who has the resume in MLB but has never been given the chance.
  7. I love Big Hurt. This book will do nothing to change my mind.
  8. If they name Ozzie I'd be so happy I'd not know what to do. I'd act like George Bailey when he returns from the darkside.
  9. Good thread. Next to acquiring talent, the medical staff is the most important part of a franchise. Sox need to wake up and get to the top of the chain in regards to trainers/doctors. Injuries basically sabotaged this rebuild. It's ridiculous to have injuries all through the roster. It seems like ol' Jose is the only guy who never gets hurt. Look at the Sox, Grandal (hurt), Moncada (hurt), Timmy (hurt), Harrison (also missed time), Jose (healthy), Eloy (hurt), Robert (hurt), Eaton (hurt), Vaughn n Sheets (healthy), Leury (didn't he miss some time as well), pitchers, some of 'em hurt or missed time. Liam (healthy).
  10. It takes forward thinking. I suggest we formally merge with McAuley. It's time. Campuses are pretty close to each other. Some computer genius could figure a way to have kids attend 3/4 of their daily classes at one of the schools. Won't hurt kids to make the relatively long walk once a day from Rice's building to McAuley's. Once we formally merge schools, go on the recruiting trail. Get the enrollment as high as humanly possible. Just call the school Rice. Take out the word brother. I'm pretty sure the order of Irish Christian Brothers is about extinct. There were only 900 brothers world wide in 2017. There are some incredible schools in suburbia. Make the new Rice HS state of the art in all areas, have it be the No. 1 college prep school in the Midwest. Think big. If Marist is expanding, Rice must answer. I'd think a majority of the southsiders would rather go to a coed school than all boys or all girls thus Marist has an advantage.
  11. OK, i'll drop it but I find it tough to stifle when it comes to Abreu and Ozz both. Two of my all time favorites.
  12. Yermin, a Q: You don't like Abreu but seem to think it's reasonable a great organization like Houston would want him. Isn't this a total non sequitir? Why would the Astros want a player that u deem so flawed?
  13. Nice on the 16-2. Any special talent in those groups?
  14. Hey Harry any way our boys can beat Jacobs? I've never ever heard of Jacobs. Never. I watched several Rice games on the internet again this year. The second half of the Marist game was weird. Rice got flattened after leading earlier in the game. I fear this is a new era coming: mediocrity to lousiness. I am skeptical the veteran hoops coach will keep going what Bobby Frasor started. Seems like a weird hire. Is coach Q beloved at Rice or ? I will say the football team had some good moments this year (we played either loyola or carmel close as I recall) but overall I feel the Crusaders lacked special talent. BR baby!
  15. Smart move. Don't teams thrive on TV money the most anyway? Lower season ticket costs as goodwill gesture cause of the wretched economy and sell more concessions. Parking, hotdogs, beer, cha ching!
  16. I just thought of something. Right now everything about the White Sox is depressing. Don't jump on me but I have a way to turn frowns into high fives. Hire Ozzie as manager, sign Abreu, then get to work on a stellar rotation and stellar defense. Pitching and defense wins pennants baby, not lift and pull. Oz was a fun Sox shortstop; an enjoyable slap hitter and Abreu is good luck charm. Also bring back Renteria in some capacity. Karma baby, needs to change.
  17. In its own way this is a funny reply. Made me smile. When you describe it this way, it sounds like a miserable experience. Where do they hold it anyway? I think it'd be fun out in suburbia, downtown Naperville or somewhere. Or Lisle by the Sox facility there.
  18. This organization is joyless right now. Coming off one of the most boring teams in memory. That said attendance was strong. They should have a soxfest. They could figure a way to take the focus off the team. Sox still have the most beautiful uniforms, hats, logos in the league. Give everybody a hat and they'd be happy on a cold winter day of soxfest.
  19. Why do the Sox take so long? Take the Astros guy and be done with it. I can't see Ozzie. Does he have a chance? If the Sox picked Ozzie it would be the Sox front office doing Oz a favor as they did Tony. That'd be weird to go with a skipper just to reward one guy. Tony hiring was to right a wrong in the past when Hawk canned a Hall of Famer. Oz would be just to thank him for 05 and give him a chance to be managerial and not the mouth that roared. Taking quite a chance with Ozz since he's said so much bad stuff in past.
  20. I disagree on some of this but respect your take. Really a shame at how his mouth doomed him. With one WS title at a young age he might have done enough as a skipper to be a Hall of Famer someday. One title young; great fit in Chicago. But inexplicably the mouth that roared and his kids were so spoiled they didn't realize they needed to stay away to save dad. They coulda settled for front row seats but had to get chummy with the press and visit the locker room. Sad his kids helped doom him when they coulda helped him reach great heights by staying in the stands not the press. Sox better hurry up and hire the guy from the Astros.
  21. Truth be told, IMO Oz would be the choice if not for the comments on Castro. Can't overcome those. We're still in a cancel culture and Oz is still canceled despite the post game show. Also in 2006 he was fined by MLB and ordered into sensitivity training for inappropriate comments. Yes 06, the year after winning it all when Oz's ego got unleashed. I love Ozzereoo but in cancel culture forget it. He's unhirable. I think he'd be great with this team tho,. What about co-managers? Oz and Renteria. Or Oz and Big Hurt? Or Oz and Thome? Don't laugh. Might work if the co skipper could handle the pre game interviews when Oz tended to ramble on. Co managers might survive the cancel culture thing, probably not tho. Baseball owners can't chance protests and things would probably explode immediately after announcement of Oz hiring as manager or co manager.
  22. If Moncada wasn't a great fielder I'd express great disdain at this post. But he definitely is not a reliable hitter. He kind of gets a free pass from many on this board considering his ineptitude at the plate
  23. The Sox frankly should never be one of those teams with a "window." Not all clubs with money and big city status operate the tank/rebuild way. I'd say the odds of the Sox winning a title in the next 5 years are zero. So if I'm right that means one WS appearance in 22 years. Wow.
  24. Common sense needed here: Getting rid of your best every day player because team has too many slow DH types and they can't all play 1B or DH. When it's the GM's fault you have so many players like that. Fire the GM. Keep the player.
  25. I think Washington is generally beloved by all. Media, players, fans. If he's too old, whatever. But he's definitely beloved. Serious question is can he speak Spanish. Kinda important nowadays IMO. Communication.
