  1. Juan is 20 of 24 SBs; not bad.
  2. That's interesting they are bashing his first pitch. I never thought he'd take such a nosedive. Danks, Floyd, Mark, Peavy sounded great on paper.
  3. Are they talking about Missouri joining the Big Ten in Chicago? People here say it's a done deal. I can't imagine why the Big 10 would want Missouri. Wow, one out double laced to corner.
  4. Interesting that it's mental. Freddy has been great.
  5. I've been thinking about this all day. Do you think Gavin is horses***? Or just in a bad spell?
  6. Back in the old days, the Hawks were awful on the power play. Hope this isn't a revisiting of that. For you diehard Hawks fans, how have the Hawks been on the powerplay the last 10 years or so?
  7. If Gordon comes back up and sucks again, the Sox will be able to acquire him. I wouldn't assume he'll succeed up here, though. He has been s*** in the big leagues. Gordon and DeJesus for who? Royals would probably take Danks I or II, Floyd and/or Viciedo. And the Sox would be fools for trading any of them for Alex.
  8. Putz is not a superior option. Maybe Santos if we want to let the inexperienced guy get his feet wet in the closer role. This love of Putz confuses me.
  9. I think they are OK, too, even if they lose Game Four, which is a tossup. The Flyers were favoried tonight, Vegas line, which I guess always goes to the home team. We have not looked like a heavy favorite in this series so far, no way. I am a little surprised what happened after we took the one-goal lead. I thought we'd hold the lead a while at least. I think any idea we are heavy favorites should be tossed by the wayside even by those fans who thought we'd breeze. All 3 games have been close and exciting. Truthfully, I don't think we are gonna win Game Four. If we do win Game Four, we'll wrap it up in Game Five in Chicago, bank that one. Does everybody agree this series is evenly matched and up for grabs? I think that's pretty apparent unless the first three games have all been flukes.
  10. The goal of many on soxtalk is to trade anybody who has proven they can play the game of baseball while they are still productive so "we can get somebody for them" before they fall off. And to get rid of salary because "we need the money." Never mind the franchise is worth about 900 quadrillion dollars on the open market. I think the goal of many is to lose every game just keep trading anybody who can play the game and makes money, anybody not named Rios or Peavy. We like to pay them the money. They are deserving of it and the rest are not. The Sox actually had the right idea in the offseason to retool, not rebuild. Unfortunately all of KW's moves sucked, yes, Ozzie wanted some/many of the moves made as well. KW f***ed up with a majority of his moves dating to the Peavy trade. Peavy has been horses***, not that he can't turn it around and all the other acquisitions sucked. Hopefully KW's next set of moves the second half of this season will be productive.
  11. Next year? How about this summer? It's not officially summer yet. As an observer of empty stadiums, it's not a bad deal for a fan. Last year I went to a Tuesday Sox/KC game at Kauffman and sat with a friend in row 8. Nobody was in row nine and two people in row 7. Got to spread out. No parking hassles, just pull in and out. No concession lines. Empty stadiums are kinda fun except ticket prices remain high for the good seats. Look for your smallest crowds this summer on Sunday afternoon games. Sox will be lucky to crack 18,000 on sunday games. And of course Mon and Tuesday nights will be tiny unless the Monday promotion is 5 buck tickets.
  12. Are you one of those who wants Putz? I thought most agreed Thornton was too valuable in his role now. It won't matter long anyway. Many of you say all the contracts will be dumped so Bobby should be dealt to a contender in the NL before too long. Stubborn and stupid? Oz will have a nice career managing in baseball until he's 65 or 70. It won't be in Chicago so you'll be happy. But he'll remain rich and stupid managing other teams.
  13. Well the Sox retooling plan didn't work, acquiring the stiffs we did in the offseason to replace the aging Dye/Thome/Pods. And the starting pitchers wetting the bed. Selling off everybody for nothing should be interesting to see how that translates to winning baseball in the future. With our fan base a traditional front-running one, dependent on us winning, the Cell should be empty during any rebuilding phase. So will we have a Pirates-Royals type payroll in that time frame?
  14. Great post. You got to like the Flyers chances at home and ours at home. I am thinking this may be one of those traditional old school series where home ice means one goal throughout as it has in the first three games. Key tonight was when we took the lead and they immediately tied it up. Sad that Philly stormed back so quickly. I think we win in 7 with the home crowd happy each game.
  15. Yeah the team is really playing well without whipping boy Wise. Time to start booing Kotsay like the fans booed Wise. Gotta have a whipping boy.
  16. I could give a f*** about the money.
  17. Yeah, the season is over. Has been for a while. What do you do if you are the White Sox? It's early June and Chicago fans who do not have season tix really have no reason to spend all that money to go to games. The only people who will want to go simply love baseball and those people probably can't afford it. The only reason to go is the same reason you'd go to a minor league game. Just to watch baseball. But with prices this high and this bad a team ... good luck marketing department and good luck Sox investors counting the empty seats this summer. The start of summer and this team is so boring and so lousy in so many ways. Guess the 3 Cub sellouts will ease the sting a bit.
  18. Yeah I'm sure we'll win any trade we make with them for Paulie. Sure we will. But hey we'll get rid of his contract like that matters one f***ing bit.
  19. We got ourselves a series. No team has had the upper hand with one goal victories at home. Wish we'd have skated better in OT. Lousy OT. This series might wind up a classic if teams keep winning by one goal and winning at home.
  20. Except for blind homerism, is there reason to think we'll win tonight? I bet 10 bucks on centsports.com on the Hawks and 10 more on the over of 5.5 goals figuring the game in Philly will more resemble the first game in Chicago. But is there any real reason to believe we'll go up 3-0 in the series and pretty much end it? Does tonight's game have Philly written all over it?

At least Pods was sizzling out of the gate when our team decided to come out sleepwalking and suck so bad that most people realized this season was over after one month.
  22. When Kotsay is going bad, it's brutal to watch him hit. Like somebody said in the game thread, long at bats mean nothing unless you finish it with a hit. Somebody in the game thread said he definitely doesn't look hitterish right now. He had a miserable game.
  23. That's true, but to me, Teahen seems so bad and overmatched that he's the guy who would drive me to drink the whole game just seeing him at third. But you are right, seeing Pierre, Kotsay, this year's version of AJ, Quentin and Beckham is mind numbingly bad and I realize Kotsay and Pierre have had some decent moments.
  24. Yuk. I'd rather rush somebody up and play all young guys even if it still means L after L.
  25. You guys that have season tickets will go out of your mind watching a team with Teahen playing LF or 1B or anywhere next year. It'd be tough to pay money to watch him play on a regular basis as he has this year before he got hurt. Do you just try to drink n eat all game and enjoy the ballpark experience rather than think about him being out there?
