Soxtalk Soundoff: Jon Garland
The point is ... who are you comparing him to? The major leagues are full of Garlands. He is our Garland. Who do you want to bring in? We're not going to pay for star free agent pitchers. We are not going to trade for star pitchers who command big bucks. Reinsdork is cheap. Some act like Garland is a complete stiff. The guy is a mediocre pitcher who occasionally is awesome. Who do you want instead of Garland??? Keep him as a No. 3, 4 or 5 starter.

Garcia missing another start
Uh oh. Dreaded arm trouble. Shut him down.

Joe Borchard
2 points: 1.) what was it like with a crowd of 5,000? Was it weird? That has to be the smallest crowd since 1970s Old Comiskey. 2.) If Joe can hit a ball that far ... keep him! This proves he has potential to be a phenom. Work with him. 500 feet???? Way to go, Joe.

Garland
Me. It was under my name you gonzo. Joke.

Ozzie and KW on the same page
I hope with our payroll, KW is capable of putting together a future winning team. Every year it seems we're strong in some areas and so pathetically weak in others that we can't contend with the Twinks.

Esteban Loaiza
garcia, buerhle, contreares, loaizia, and garland would sure be a tough one to beat... --on paper, the Sox always look tough to beat. Then we take the field and can't beat out the Twinks year after year.

Garland
Oz said after the game: “It’s a shame,” Guillen said. “(Garland) has all the talent in the world and doesn’t use it.” Oz obviously has given up on him. He's gone. Too bad, though, we're still going to need a No. 4, 5 starter. If I were the Braves I'd trade for Garland If he stays healthy, he's eventually going to win big.

Thanks for Olivo..
I love Miguel and would rather have him than Ben. But nobody can argue with Ben's production. He's done well.

Jon Garland
How long has he been here? 4 years? Isin't that enough time to work through mechanical problems or learning when to make a certain pitch? --No. Only because he's 24 years old. He'll be a great No. 4 as you all have said.

Ross Gload
Gload is a toad. He's a good backup, though. Keep Uribe and Gload as BACKUPS!
-
Is re-signing Jose really that bad of an Idea?
Juan Uribe is not a quality baseball player. Jose has been good enough. I wouldn't be against upgrading, but not with Uribe. Keep Uribe as a backup. He does have 18 hrs. p.s. does anybody else think Uribe swings too hard sometimes? Nice RBI single tonight though.

Sandy Alomar Jr.
I live in the KC area. When Sandy hit the homer on opening day vs. the Royals, which was a nice shot to left, I said, "that will be the last homer he hits this season." I believe he has one home run. I don't seek an award for this, but Sandy simply cannot hit anymore. Oz should immediately add him to the coaching staff, however.

As Sox fans
If we lose Maggs, we need like you say to replace him with a fabulous player. Our season lies in the balance. We need a difference maker like Maggs (or similiar type stud) and a healthy Frank in the lineup to contend.
-
8/26 Maggs a "risk"
Has there been a definitive article written on his injury? C'mon. Is this thing career threatening? Let mesee the article please or to one of the Sox writers, please write one. thanx.

Hats off to Paulie, Aaron
Sorry to start a new thread on a lame topic, but congrats to Aaron and Paulie for yet another big game. Two guys have had great years. We mighta had a great postseason if Maggs, Frank, Paulie and Lee had gotten hot at the same time, coupled with the pitching of our pretty decent 4 starters. Ah what might have been. p.s. Would we still be in contention if Uribe had hit all season like he did in April and May and tonite? Just wondering.

Willie's wasted speed.
I thought Willie would suck, like Steff, but then I got on his bandwagon when he got off to the good start. It seemed like he and Juan actually were going to be studs. I figured he actually was good and he had shut me up. But now he couldn't get an extra base hit if he whacked it off a tee. Now the question is who sucks worse, Willie or Juan?

Team speed
Do you guys think our team speed is a problem? I am thinking it is and tend to obsess about it, but am open to your more astute comments.

Ben Davis
To the women on our board: Is Ben "dreamy" like the one poster said. If I looked like Ben, I would date Christina A. (Applegate or Aguilera, either).
-
Why I still like our chances
I agree our only hope is to win the division. The fact we've plummeted five back is not good. I don't think anybody has completely given up, but like the one poster said, "Just f***ing win."
-
Joe Crede
I think Oz said it perfectly. Good story, as usual, in the Southtown. Good paper. I kind of like Joe, but agree with Oz's statements.
-
Who turned us down, Walker or Kendall?
I'm glad we didn't give up the minor leaguer Oz says will be a star. I forget his name now, but I think he's in A ball.
-
Ozzieball!!!
This begs an interesting point. Are we the slowest team in baseball? Discuss with Willie in the lineup and without. Of late he's not on base anyway. But are we the worst plodders of any team? That was a big play the other night when we Paulie got gunned down at the plate on a hit to rf.

Ben Davis
I wouldn't feel sorry for him if he hits .111 cause he has the look and I have a feeling he gets every woman he wants. Lucky rat.

Hot Topic
Hard to say. If E-Lo isn't listening to Oz or Coop like the rumors, I guess Contreras.
