  1. Tanking is one of the biggest reasons sports generally reek nowadays. It's a horrific way to 'build' a team for a small window of greatness. If Sox can get a title out of it like the Cubs, one title, I guess that's a huge success nowadays.
  2. If he trades Vaughn or Eloy you rebuilding fans will have your rebuilding plan torn up completely. Eloy is a huge piece of the rebuilding.
  3. Eloy and Robert could be true stars next season to go with Tim and Moncada. Those are four bonafide stars potentially if healthy. I mean sizzling ALL SEASON. Jose also might have another MVPish season left in him. At the worst same type season as this year. Vaughn and/or Sheets could really be good. Not as optimistic for ANY of the pitchers though, which is a problem. Maybe Cease and Kopech and Gio. The stars need to shine. And Tony must do a better job.
  4. I like Tony a lot. I just hope next year he takes command more. I think because of all the injuries he figured he was getting about all he could out of this team. He might be right. Cmon Tony. Be a leader next year. Tell the front office to hell with analytics and get a contact hitting second baseman to go with all the big bats in the lineup. And a defensive minded catcher. Also the hell with analytics and get your fricking starting pitchers to extend to seven innings. The White Sox will never have a bullpen reliably capable of covering part of the 5th, into the 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th. This year was freaky because of all the injuries. Somebody needs to grill Hahn at Soxfest about getting better trainers in town. This is absurd that the Sox are not at the TOP of the medical field if they are not. QUIT GETTING HURT!
  5. That's fine with me. Vaughn and Sheets look good. The improvement needs to be at catcher (trade Grandal), 2B (can we get Madrigal back?) and tons of new pitchers needed.
  6. None of those guys except Abreu would bring back much in a trade thus they'll all be staying IMO. Sheets and Vaughn look like nice prospects. Trade Burger if you must but he won't bring much. I think the Sox should trade Grandal. Let Collins catch along with a defensive whiz who can't hit that you can acquire. Sox need a new second baseman (Madrigal type would be perfect there, damn), a new catcher, a solution in right field (Vaughn or Sheets?) and lots of pitching help.
  7. Dump Kimbrel for whatever you can get. He's obviously not a set up man.
  8. I disagree. My disagreement is the Sox definitely had the roster, on paper, to make the WS. It would have required a lot of White Sox hitting well, pitching well, fielding OK. Sox played poorly and for me the lasting image is Frank Thomas in studio sadly shaking his head at the rotten series the Sox played. Sox thought they had it all figured out at the trade deadline when they had 7th, 8th and 9th innings allegedly knocked down with bullpen studs and had 2B fixed with a second baseman with some power. Everybody failed, including Tony who zombielike, just tried his best to have a healthy roster come October. Sox deserve an A for their full body of work but an F for the postseason and F for roster management.
  9. I'm sick of it. Even LaRussa, an old timer, has given into it. Baseball like most companies let the consultants get to the decision makers. This modern philosophy of pitching and trying to score runs has taken over and the game is so damn boring. Good luck to pitchers trying to get in the Hall of Fame in the future. I guess it'll be reserved for closers and the best of the beset home run hitters and that's it. Don't even call them starting pitchers anymore. Third time through the order and most fans want that starter OUT. You face a hitter twice and that's it.
  10. I'm sick of babying pitchers. No starter deserves a huge contract in the future if all they can give in a big game is three innings. What a joke. The babying of pitchers should reduce their incomes for sure. Who would pay Rodon for going what, 1 2/3 innings? Who would pay any of these guys. What did Keuchel have with the Sox? One good year? Cooper would not baby them! I was reading an interview with Gary Peters or one of the old timers who said his arm hurt all the time. You frickin pitch or you don't.
  11. you sound like greg. That's what I always said in sticking up for Ozzie. I was buried so badly on this board for my Ozzie love.
  12. If Sox knew they would bow out in first round again, no reason to not let RR come back. He arguably was just as bad as Tony. Frankly I'd rather have had Cooper run this pitching staff, too.
  13. Yeah but hungry for what? You win the division and that's not nuff. Sox need to win 110 games and not let the foot off the pedal in postseason.
  14. Good post. As cheap as our favorite organization allegedly is and how poorly managed the squad has been except for Oz (in my opinion until he got Sunday lineup crazy), there is something special about the White Sox. Frank Thomas was visibly p----d on the postgame show, shaking his head repeatedly. Even Frank who wound up playing for Oakland and Toronto is obviously a big White Sox fan. Maybe it's the incredible uniforms or the team's knowledgable diehard fans, or Jerry's loyalty to players, the guys who play for the Sox love the Sox forever. So win next year baby. If the Sox tank next season either in the regular season or first round it will be extremely disappointing. Somebody has to figure out modern baseball in our organization and put together a plan pitching wise that works. The team defense at catcher could certainly improve and whoever takes over in RF better be a slugger and not a sieve defensively. We enter the offseason stumbling a bit as Madrigal would have been a nice piece in this lineup and now we need to find somebody acceptable, yes a bit better than super utiility man Leury. Get rid of Kimbrel somehow and build back a better bullpen. Personally I'd ask Tony to go away and pick a damn fine manager for once. Ozzie would be great but that's not happening. Don't name a former player or former sox manager if it's not Ozzie this time. Cmon Sox, next year is your year. The Central blows chunks.
  15. Thanks to the team for a good year. As it turns out the Sox didn't need to acquire those Cubs relievers. Madrigal would be a nice pesky hitter to have around the next 10 years. Really the second half was so boring it's hard to appreciate the team for what it accomplished. Tony ultimately failed. Whatever the Sox brass were trying to do the last month or so didn't work. Sox entered the postseason a mediocre team and got boatraced. Sox carried on the tradition of the Twins by getting ousted quickly. Always enjoy winning the division. I guess since Sox won the division despite a lot of injuries the team deserves an A, barely escaping an A-minus. Somehow the team has to avoid all the hammy issues and other injuries in the future. My advice: Get rid of Hernandez now. Rebuild the pitching staff. Figure out how you want to manage a pitching staff in the future. Having starters incapable of going more than 4 or 5 innings isn't a good formula to win anything of note. Our closer is OK; not as big a fan of the rest of the bullpen as some. Final grade: A. Key to future success: Moncada, Timmy, Abreu, Eloy, Robert, Grandal, Sheets, Burger, Vaughn, Kopech, Giolito, Liam, Cease. Trade Collins if you have no plans for him.
  16. I hope Frank rips the sox on postgame show.
  17. Sox are back to sucking in the playoffs when we get in. In 05 the Sox won almost every game. Now we stink in the postseason. The core players need to improve, get their home run upper cut strokes refined and management needs to fix the pitching and add some power in RF.
  18. Cesar didn't bring his home run stroke to Chicago.
  19. Actually we need more power. Baseball is 3 run homers now to go with power pitching (for 3 innings at a time).
  20. Not sure I agree with DJ. Sox do have some good players, though.
  21. I woulda never thought Sox would get killed today, 10-1. We need to build a new stadium at Arlington Park. Kidding.
  22. All the Sox can do after this pathetic 3-1 series loss is be good enough to dominate the division next five years and hope to strike lightning in the postseason. Still probably will happen if Sox win division next five years. Wasn't this year.
  23. No need to leave because of rush hour traffic, but I wouldn't blame the stands for emptying. So in retrospect, Tepera insults the Stros and instead of that working, the Stros beat us 10-1. Geez. You open your mouth you need to back it up.
  24. Why would Tony want to return at his age? Money? I guess you could maybe bank on dominating the division five or six years and maybe catch lightning and win 1-2 WS titles if things are ideal. The way baseball is going the Sox will be in a one-game series some of those years and anything can happen there.
