**Movies that we Watch** Thread
Went to see "Yesterday." Not the greatest movie. I'd give it 2.5 stars out of 4 and that's with me in a generous mood and the fact looking at Lily James for 2 hours is very pleasant. I'd say 2 to 2.5 stars for the movie. I enjoyed the acting of the lead Patel as well. He was OK.

All Star Jose Abreu
Sorry I'm human. I never pretended to know everything. I have my opinions on individual players and the rebuild/tank job like everybody else. So excuuuuuuuussssssseeeee meeeee.

All Star Jose Abreu
For you to not tip your cap to Jose for his having an almost identical season as the great Machado is really sad. Just tell us you dislike Jose and won't ever change your mind. We will understand.

All Star Jose Abreu
This is why we can't take the Abreu dissenters seriously. Your first two sentences says it all. Almost identical seasons. This is why these advanced stat lovers and Abreu dislikers slay me. You can't talk logic into people who have their minds made up. Abreu is old. Abreu is old news, blah, so bad defensively. We can't change their minds so I can do is praise vilehoopster for his great posts and say, "Vile, you are the poster of the year!"

Leury Garcia
I guess that's fair enough. I hope our scouting department makes sure to acquire guys who look like ultra productive ballplayers especially if we deal Colome. We'll go from having a reliable to top-notch closer to really having nobody if we deal Colome. Trading Colome for lower level prospects would be like going from Clive Christian cologne to Old Spice.

Leury Garcia
I'm starting to like Leury. When a guy produces, if you are a reasonable fan, you have to tip your cap. He's starting to emerge as a fairly consistent hitter/fielder. I.Like.Leury at this point in time.

GT: Tigers (27-54) @ White Sox (41-42), July 4
Good post Scooter. I haven't completely given up on him. Except I dropped him from all my fantasy teams 2 starts ago as I sense a lot of mediocrity to lousiness in Lopez. I do hope he makes it. I remember a couple games in April or May where he had a zillion K's. But right now I sense a guy who is in desperate need of revision by Coop. I am not burying him but I am tossing the first shovel of dirt his way.

Ron I will respect you more if you can at least agree with SI's recent assertion. He wrote that Abreu is very good at saving Timmy's bad throws in the dirt. Does Ron at least agree Abreu is VERY GOOD at digging? He has problems moving left and right, I agree. If you would agree at least that he's a good vacuum cleaner on low throws I will respect you some. If you say he sucks at digging throws I know you are unreasonable.

All Star Jose Abreu
Man, you are a great poster. I endorse this post completely! Your second to last sentence is my biggest beef with "many" message board fans. I suspect if you are in the stands at a game at The Cell, you'd find 24,000 fans very very pleased with Abreu and wanting to keep him and pay him some dough. On here? Not so much. This sentence of yours belongs in the message board hall of fame. You wrote: "You guys were willing to give a total dick like Machado over 30 million a year for 10 years, but now you're wanting to nickel and dime a loyal soldier who has been here for the worst of the rebuild?" Lovely sentence! I suspect not many posters are sentimental enough about a loyal soldier like Abreu to agree with you, but I do!

I worship this poster! Fantastic post SI1020!

All Star Jose Abreu
Give him the going rate for 33 year old guys who are productive but not among the top 15 hitters in the game. In other words, give him a lot more than 8 mill. I'd sign him 3 years for 36 million (it's Jerry's money folks) or 40 million. If it were the NBA I'd give him two years 26 million with a team option for year three. Baseball doesn't do that team option thing, right?

All Star Jose Abreu
If we do have to trade him cause of rebuild-happy fans' demands, trade him to a team that will let him play in the field if that's what he wants. I don't blame him. DH is for fat guys or at least lazy guys. Abreu is no ballerina at first but I've seen worst first basemen. His weakness is he blows when he has to dart to both his left and right. I'd give him a C and could accept a grade of C- or B-plus for his defense at first but he's better than a D IMO.

One thing I got out of this game, you people that want Eloy to DH are insane IMO. He's going to be average to fine in LF. Maybe his arm blows ... we'll have to live with that. Johnny Damon played with a noodle arm forever. There's absolutely no reason to stash Eloy at DH. Also, Lopez appears to be blah at best. Bullpen for him it looks like unless Coop can fix him. Eloy is having a helluva rookie season.

I was thinking the exact same thing Soxfest! Great post. I was thinking, man I'd hate to have tickets the night he is scheduled to start. He's pretty deficient.

Lopez looks like a flop, hate to say it. Dropped him from all my fantasy teams a couple starts ago. Haven't studied him enough but he sort of blows.

White Sox worst AL team in the last decade
I"m team "White Sox." Never was in favor of tanking.

White Sox worst AL team in the last decade
We definitely have a handful of outstanding players. Lot of work to be done to fill in the holes. Great nucleus though, assuming Timmy's injury was a fluke and he'll stay healthy and Eloy and Moncada stay healthy. Ricky has some pieces to work with. Two outstanding starters right now and one outstanding closer.

What's wrong with Eloy in LF? I see him playing there a long, long time.

GT: Tigers (27-53) @ White Sox (40-42), July 3
How often does that happen? Getting traded is a deep insult to a player. They never immediately return. The commissioner in fact would probably nullify it via collusion. There's no wink, wink like "See you in a couple months, Jose. You'll be back with us next season for sure." It's a deep pain in that you've been traded. You peeps that want to trade Jose slay me. He turns 33 in January. Even if he suddenly hits .150 during his year 33 season, I hope he gets to count a lot of Jerry's money in the future. He's earned it. Sox fans that want to trade Abreu have no concern about clubhouse leaders and fan favorites and intangibles. If we ever make the postseason again, part of the dream of the team will be to get Abreu a ring. Trade him and have no veterans and no leaders and see how far you go. "Let's win Palka a ring, fellas! Let's win McCann a ring! That's the ticket."
-
GT: Tigers (27-53) @ White Sox (40-42), July 3
If you don't believe in the intangibles of sports and what it means to have an established star, I can't help you. You don't fricking trade Jose Abreu, the heart and soul of the fricking team. If you do, you deserve last place and I mean that. At some point, cold hard stats have to be balanced with common sense.

I'd like to see him go to Gio's high school coach and re-work his delivery. Don't like it. Too many meatballs served up.

This is not a tough decision. You keep one of the best players in your team's history. Geez.

Sox win and sweep doubleheader!
Good job Jose! Way to end it. You sir, are a star! I wonder if there's an advanced stat that gives him credit for that clutch hit. He goes down low and pops it into the seats. Stud!!! Sox win two. Cease and Jose.

GT: Tigers (27-53) @ White Sox (40-42), July 3
Jose Abreu!!! Rather than gloat for myself as I worship Jose Abreu, let me congratulate him on that bullet into the seats and this abovementioned accomplishment. All-Star electors knew what they were doing. Jose Abreu, take a bow baby! You are a true pro and a star!!! Sox win; Jose deserves a beer or three!

Would be nice to sweep this crap team.
