Avi Hot streak
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 3, 2017 -> 04:32 AM) Avi 37 for his last 83 which rounds up to a .446 average, Nice to see him hit the HR today and triple whenever it was a couple games ago. He appears to be going to right and center field most of the time now, Not sure if that means the trying to pull more experiment is over but sure can't argue with the results. I believe at one point his average dropped to under .305 so to bounce it back to .327 really takes a prolonged streak when you have so many AB's already. Today's game is a perfect example of that. Avi goes 3 for 4 and his BA only rises .004 points. The " any doubters left" question is purely rhetorical since I know I will see things like outlier, BABIP, and lets see if he can repeat it next year. Of course I'd like your thoughts any way . I worship Avi Garcia. I finally looked at the standings today. Very sad my team is almost 30 games below .500. Amazing. But back to Avi. Love everything he stands for. What a season.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 06:47 PM) Bleacher ReportVerified account @BleacherReport 2h2 hours ago J.J. Watt's fundraiser for Hurricane Harvey relief is now over $10M thanks to a $200K donation from Drake http://ble.ac/2grKyid Awesome. You know somebody mentioned it on this board not too long ago. But as much as we Americans hate on each other, in a total crisis, every time there is a horrific crisis, America comes together. It's very weird. When things are A-OK normal we have Black Lives Matter runnning amok. We have white supremist morons running amok. We have mass murderers running amok. But when we have crisis, American always shell out money. Have you seen all the tweets from people offering shelter in their own homes, etc? We are a very very weird country. I mean I'm grateful for how we help each other in crisis. But then when things are normal, we despise each other. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Sep 1, 2017 -> 06:44 PM) Didn't they just do exactly this over the past year or so? I hope the guys they got are the best. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Sep 1, 2017 -> 07:14 PM) greg I love ya buddy but Gio is up already up and in the rotation there is no opinion in that. Look for Crete to beat Brother Rice tonight btw. I thought Gio's was just a late season reward/look. If we have he and Rodon for sure in the rotation next year and if Lopez is in the rotation, for their sake I hope they speed up the rebuild. I don't care what anybody says. Pitchers failing at any point of their careers is not necessarily healthy. I hate to over-react about Rice but didn't like what I saw vs. Marist. Now that's a first game and all that. Maybe that junior QB is going to be great. By no means am I burying a high school kid after one start. I'd move the senior QB to RB or defense and simplify the offense and see if some of the new skill players can develop. I would think Rice will come out fired up beyond belief vs. Crete wanting to not go 0-2. I'd think they will show considerable improvement with a whole new cast of characters this year trying to run the dreaded spread.

QUOTE (Dunt @ Sep 1, 2017 -> 12:43 PM) No chance in hell you are not a troll. Gio up in September? What the f*** are you even talking about? I have my opinions; you have yours. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Sep 1, 2017 -> 01:58 PM) If you would have told me months ago that we would have traded Gonzalez for a former second round pick (still 20-years old), I would have taken that every day of the week. It's time to develop some of these high round draft picks who look like busts. Sox have done it with pitchers. Why not spend a few bucks and get the best hitting version of Coop and sign him up? Hahn's career is on the line if this all doesn't work out so you'd think he'd improve our minor league instructors.

Gonzalez to Rangers
QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 1, 2017 -> 04:14 AM) Gio is already in the big leagues. As is Lopez. Rodon appears to have turned a corner. But yes, because we lost an average starter it's full blown tankathon. DAMN YOU JERRRRY I really gotta stop getting sucked into your logic blackhole. Within the same hour you will post that the Sox have 7 guaranteed superstars in their farm system, that they will lose 125 games because they don't have a closer, the rotation will be horrific because Shields is the 5th starter, and Gonzo is an incredible talent who will save the Sox from tanking but also will have no suitors in the free agent market. Gio is here as a late season reward and look see. Lopez is a question mark. I love Rodon. Why don't you understand my logic? I do like our farm system players. Our bullpen will guarantee our suckage next year. Gonzo is not incredible but a suitable No. 4-5. Unlike Shields, Holland, Pelfrey. Some people on here understand greg and feel Greg's posts but don't speak up. A couple have said they understand my posts. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Sep 1, 2017 -> 04:24 AM) Statistically, he looks like a F hitter. Can't get close to .700 OPS at any minor league level. Maybe the scouts see something. Didn't expect much though. The guy is a 2nd round draft pick, 6-foot-3 and 21. If we had some hitting instructor talent we could develop some guys. Why have a Coop who is excellent and nobody on the position player side to DEVELOP guys. This guy we acqured is a perfect baseball player body wise. Gotta develop him. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Sep 1, 2017 -> 04:48 AM) If I ever care about Ti'quan Forbes again I will be quite surprised. The bigger upside to this trade is it makes them even worse the last month+ of the season. Why can't we develop Forbes? Second round draft picks are supposed to have TALENT. QUOTE (Wanne @ Sep 1, 2017 -> 04:57 AM) Right?!?!? How anyone can not be happy with this is beyond me. Kid definitely has quite a bit of upside and some physical tools. Nice article on SBNation about him a few months back. Maybe a change in scenery will give him a spark. He definitely has upside. He has the physical body. Develop him, White Sox.

Who is the 2018 Closer
It depends if the plan is to tank one more year. If we plan on sucking it'll be a bullpen like this one. If we plan on winning they need to rebuild the bullpen and it's anybody's guess who would be the closer. I figure it's Nate. It's his turn to be a closer. We'll see if he can be healthy and do it.

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 1, 2017 -> 03:58 AM) Yeah Rodon/Gio/Lopez and Kopech a couple months in is gonna be a garbage rotation You wait. Kopech and Gio will not be in the bigs til September next year. Sox will not rush guys in a wasted season. I know I've been up and down on Lopez. I'm not THAT high on him yet. Do you guys think he's a lock to be a No. 2, 3 stud or are u like me and not convinced? I do worship Rodon. I'm convinced he'll be a stud, health permitting. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Sep 1, 2017 -> 03:59 AM) Yup, us trading a free agent to be definitely means we'll be tanking next year. That's some quality deductive reasoning right there Greg. Well done. I know he's a free agent, but I figure he's one of those guys you could just sign for pennies w/out much competition. He has to be happy with Coop and nobody's offering him much dough this offseason. I feel like he could be a moderately acceptable starter if we're trying to win. He's certainly LIGHT YEARS better than Shields or the two guys who are not as good as Fathom: Holland and Pelfrey. I figure MiGo is the kinda guy who after the season ended woulda agreed to a cheap contract and stay on the south side with Coop.

Gonzalez to Rangers
I wish we could develop hitters like Coop does pitchers. Cause this is another intriguing guy, Forbes. 6-3, 180? Wow. A tall third baseman. ... A second round pick who has done nothing so far in the minors. Only 21. Obviously has talent. But will he ever sniff the majors? I know I've ripped MiGo in the past but he actually had some good starts. Do u think this moves means we truly are tanking again next year? We've pretty much dealt every MLB pitcher who possibly could get anybody out this year. Nobody's taken Holland or Pelfrey so far cause they are off the charts lousy. Me thinks our staff is gonna be putrid next year cause cooler heads will prevail and Sox won't rush the prospects.

Serious question. Beaumont has no water. What do you do if you wake up and didn't fill the bathtubs with water and all the roads are flooded? So it's 9 a.m. and you have no water and no water will be coming for a while. The whole city is without water. What do you do? All this stuff is scary and sad both. I'm so spoiled if I wake up and can't take a shower I'd be pissed/inconvenienced beyond belief. We're talking no water to drink here and they say they don't know when there will be water. Some people don't stock up on bottled water for whatever reason.

sox marketing technique - acquiring attractive players
QUOTE (Wanne @ Aug 30, 2017 -> 06:43 PM) I know this sounds pretty ridiculous to say...but probably my biggest fear about Moncada is him getting too caught up in being "pretty" and turning into a prima donna. This thread is actually pretty funny...but even my gal commented on how many good looking young guys the Sox have...and she hates baseball. Ali was pretty and he's the "greatest of all time." Victor Ortiz is a good looking guy and he definitely turned prima donna, tried to kiss Floyd Mayweather in a title fight and got clocked. Funny thread but Bobby Jenks wasn't exactly a heartthrob and he was great.

Scoopcity from WSD
QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 04:24 PM) You're right, I do disagree. The Sox won't be a .500 team in 2018, but it will be a step forward. 76-86 would be a great season for a young team and mostly young rotation. If they happen to lose 90, it's not that much different. Kinda just depends on health and bullpen variance...and Renteria bunting. I don't see how you can avoid a historically bad Sox season if there's no plan to fix the bullpen yet. And I would doubt that's the plan. This team is destined to get two very very high draft picks before the rebuild starts to turn into contention.

Scoopcity from WSD
QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 04:12 PM) I know I've said this before and people can fire away again. If they have an awful season next year with that plan, the rebuild has failed and they will need to start again. If the rotation is Rodon, Lopez, Giolito and Kopech, all players they are counting on for the rebuild, they better not lose 90 games. They will struggle but they can't ALL struggle that badly. I agree. But I'm sure if those guys somehow are awful as they adjust to the bigs we'll have tons of excuses for them. We can point to Robin Ventura's horrific start to his career, wasn't he 2 for 50 or something like that; we can point to Avi taking many years. But let's say Lopez Giolito and Kopech are all as bad as Fulmer right now, wouldn't that be alarming? I'm already a believer that Rodon will be excellent next season.

Someones gotta do it: Sox @ Twins 8/30
Does Holland really belong on an MLB diamond? My gosh. Is he having one of the worst seasons by a starter in baseball history (for a guy the team has not replaced). Hyperbole? I doubt it. I'm talking about guys allowed to get hammered game after game and not replaced during the course of a season. He makes a mockery of the game of baseball. Geez. Cut the guy already.

The commentors on that Big lead story can be rude. That one person said they almost deserve what they got by staying. Give me a break. Nobody deserves that. Not everybody can flee. s***, you'd probably be fired by your job if you left in this day and age without the mandatory evacuation order. Like the writer said most people stay. Sure you can end up in a shelter but decisions are made and stuff happens.

Kopech will have a chance to win a rotation spot next spring
QUOTE (joejoedairy @ Aug 29, 2017 -> 10:07 PM) Not sure where you're getting this. I know I expect Giolito and Lopez to be on the opening day roster and many others have said the same thing. I think Kopech comes up after about 10 starts in AAA (assuming he's doing well) I actually do hope they attempt to compete next season, but not at the detriment to the rebuild. I don't think they'll be above .500 next year but I'll be upset if they tank the season by not having anyone reliable in the bullpen. Good. I like your sentiments. QUOTE (Tony @ Aug 29, 2017 -> 10:24 PM) You can maintain all you want. You're wrong. Good. I hope everybody wants the youngsters in the bigs as soon as possible.

Kopech will have a chance to win a rotation spot next spring
QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Aug 29, 2017 -> 09:31 PM) The bullpen right now is as pathetic as I can ever remember seeing. The Sox are on pace to "only" lose 97 games. They have gone 14-22 since trading their two stud relievers in Robertson and Kahnle, which would also be a 97 loss pace. Where are those other 13-23 losses coming from? With Moncada, Giolito, and Lopez being up for the whole year plus a full year out of Rodon and another year of development for all the young players, something would have to go horribly wrong for this team to lose even 110 games. Not to mention 120, which as I stated before only one team had ever done. Do you really think next years team is going to be among the 5 worst in the history of baseball? Give me a break. Quit talking about s*** you don't have a clue on and go watch your precious Royals and be done with it. I amended it to between 110 and 120 losses unless they do something if they want to improve. I pointed out in the scenario presented the starting rotation would be very good but in this day and age if you went into next season with this bullpen yes they'd lose over 100 games. If the argument is 110 to 120 is too high would u at least agree it's a 105 loss team with this bullpen? As to where the losses come from, I'd suggest they'd pile up in April and continue from there. I guess if the Royals are total s*** and the Tigers total crap the Sox could conceivably go 10-9 or 9-10 against both which would cut into my 110 to 120 losses theory. I'd expect both Minnie and Cleveland to own us. Maybe to the tune of 15-4 or 14-5. I also could see the .500 scenario begin if the Sox as i said in the other post went with the 4 good young starters and add a veteran and also decide to rebuild the bullpen this offseason. Not sure who the lockdown closer is whom they could acquire but they start the bullpen rebuild if they wished. p.s. I maintain "most" fans on this site want our stud young pitchers to be in the minors all next season. It's part of the rebuild mystery. They don't want Giolito, Kopech, even Lopez anywhere near the majors next season. Rodon and four hacks and let the losses pile up. I hate to waste pitches on rodon's arm as well. I hope most of the projected stars all get a fresh start on Day One some April. By then poor Moncada and TA could be frazzled by a lotta losses.

Very very smart. I can't imagine Houston up and running by this weekend. QUOTE (raBBit @ Aug 29, 2017 -> 07:41 PM) Wow.
