  1. Everybody thinks Zobrist is the glue guy who gives you a WS title. 20 million a year at his age is ridiculous. I could see the Mets giving him that much, though.
  2. Say what you want about Trump. He could give a bleep about the PC police. I love that about him. Now he's saying all Muslims must be kept out of USA. If Trump had any experience at all and could contain that ego a bit, I'd vote for him over and over. I'm sick of the malaise in our country and all the mass murders!
  3. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 8, 2015 -> 06:05 AM) How do you figure? Upton & Frazier combined for 8 WAR last year, they'd be replacing guys who put up a -3 WAR. That's an 11 point swing right there (assuming production maintains). Doesn't include any improvement from Melky or LaRoche, who combined for -1.7 WAR, which is incredibly likely IMO. Also doesn't consider any improvement from any of our the young guys, in particular Rodon, who has plenty of room to improve over the 2.1 WAR he posted last year. With a couple significant upgrades at 3B & RF, this team could very easily be a legitimate playoff contender. Yes, but NL players who come to the Sox generally stink. These 2 NL players might hit .111 in April and May before they get going. By then in the Central?? Playing KC and Detroit and Cleveland all those times? We could be out of it by the time they get hot in the Cell in the summer.
  4. Hate to be a fuddy duddy, but no. Team has to shore up its defense and bullpen and fundamentals to compete in the Central. I don't believe under Robin the team is capable of being strong fundamentally. And Hahn doesn't appear to be building around defense. Baserunning and baseball-type instinct plays are also sub-par. I do think we have a darn good starting rotation, but just too many holes even with those 2 additions. Frazier and Upton WOULD excite me as far as returning to getting some power back in the Cell. But the Sox right now have a major problem in building a team that can compete playing a majority of games in the Central. Frazier and Upton along with Abreu might get us back on track to a lift and pull title type team. I'm not saying it's impossible. I will say we've had BAD LUCK with NL players and they both might suck all season til they get adjusted.
  5. QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 10:26 PM) Well that's because those people mistakenly think "Merry Christmas" is politically incorrect. But politically incorrect is a label tossed at phrases that get oversensitive people all worked up and offended, resulting in a demand to use a different phrase which those people prefer. In the case of Winter greetings, it's "Happy Holidays" that results in anger and demands to use "Merry Christmas". I find it hard to believe in this gawdforsaken conservative state I NEVER hear Merry Christmas (except at church) and always hear Happy Holidays and you guys who live in big cities claim I'm wrong. The PC police are out big-time over not offending anybody who does not celebrate Christmas. Festivus is a cooler name anyway. It does bum me out that PC has taken over. That's one reason I want Trump to win.
  6. QUOTE (ron883 @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 02:10 PM) It's crazy how much better this world would be without religion. Sheep gonna sheep Why would the world be better without religion? Give me some reasons. The world would be even worse than it is without religion IMO. It amazes me how religious people are fair game to be mocked when we accept your right to be atheist.
  7. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 08:06 PM) Sounds more like you think your religion is the only one that matters, which is pretty much the issue. No, the issue is everybody is afraid of offending the PC police on Islam. Nobody is afraid of offending Christians. It's really pretty funny. QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 08:14 PM) Get off your cross, Greg. Why is it OK to blast and mock Christians and virtually nobody else in America? You try ripping Islam or any other religion? It's cool with me. I find it funny. Ditto Catholics. Every other organization or religion that had any problems with the abuse of kids ... it's covered correctly. That there are sick morons everywhere. But Catholics ... bring out the joke book. Cool with me. It's funny. But don't you dare imply Islam could be the cause of some of these horrific murders! Tell me what I say isn't true. Nah nobody will do that, they'll just rip Greg or make some one liner about Greg.
  8. QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 08:41 PM) He's not an idiot? So this has nothing to do with Islam? Seems to me we are pretty weak in being afraid of the PC police on this one.
  9. QUOTE (ron883 @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 03:10 PM) It's crazy how much better this world would be without religion. Sheep gonna sheep Wrong. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 04:16 PM) agree, 100%. Disagree 100 percent. Don't worry, though. Christianity as a religion is going away. Too many Americans are afraid of offending anybody regarding race or religion ... except Christians. Ripping Christians is cool. Right, Bill Maher? Hey, quit saying Merry Christmas, Christians. It's offensive, you know?? There is no God. That baby that was born was nobody special.
  10. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 02:15 AM) Obama just called ISIS thugs. #racist. I think Obama refers to them as ISIL. Also he's not racist because he refuses to say "radical Islam" ever. He won't blame the religion at all. What's his deal?
  11. He's way too old to give him the $$ he desires. Let the Mets have him. Idiotic signing for an oldie. Two years maybe; five?? LOL
  12. One thing is for sure. If we sign Upton, that will be it for our organization. He's so expensive it'll be the Sox FO risking it all thinking one power bat to go with Abreu is all we need. The signing will cripple our organization financially so it's a last-gasp type of signing. I'll say this. If we get Upton, we need to ONLY play LaRoche against righties. He's an automatic out vs. lefties. So when a righty pitches we got in order Melky, Abreu, Upton, LaRoche, Avi. On paper, a little bit of pop anyway. If LaRoche sees any at bats against lefties, our organization is a joke.
  13. It is weird how we have Robertson (ultra elite), Abreu (ultra elite) Sale and Q (ultra elite) and yet our team blows. (I can't put Melky in elite cause I'm a Melky/hater). We have a weird dynamic going on during the Robin-era.
  14. I know the Sox have had some decent payrolls in the past 10 years, but if we truly are one of the small market teams, don't we have to go the way of the Royals to compete? We've got to somehow get young, cheap players and develop them and use them up til they become free agents, and then sign some guys for 8-10 million a year to supplement? Signing Upton is a huge risk at 25 mill a year for 5-6 years because hey, what if he becomes Dunn/LaRoche/Melky? It's almost never worth the risk UNLESS you are a team with money to burn. Now as a fan would I like Upton? Sure if he hits 30 HR to go with Abreu's 30! Of course.
  15. Upton is definitely a power hitter. We'd have at least one to go with Abreu in returning to some lift and pull action in a small ballpark. Is he a free agent? Won't he require about 25 to 30 mill a year? I mean he definitely has the potential to hit 30 HR in the Cell.
  16. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Dec 5, 2015 -> 11:30 PM) It's kind of sad we are becoming more and more numb to these types of tragedies. It's just business as usual until it will hit close to home. Great post. Let's face it. Americans on the whole are OK with these shootings as a tradeoff for the right to have guns and lots of 'em to protect our nation if somebody invades. People want guns thinking it will stop the bad guys if we get invaded. Of course there are the wackos (IMO) who just want guns to shoot animals, etc., and they are a vocal group, but mainly Americans are OK with these killings as a tradeoff for protection. Like you said, very sad. I personally am horrified and believe we are not safe anywhere. I go to church tonight. I am prepared to go tackle any wacko who looks like they are about to start a spree. We all must be ready.
  17. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 02:35 AM) I am greatful Samardzija rejected the extension offer made by the Sox. Can you imagine how pissed all of us fans would be if he had accepted the offer which to my understanding was before he has his dreadful second half? Yikes. Danks 2.0. Good post. This is why baseball is so "funny." Sox fans realize Shark is horrific pitcher yet a team (Giants and their fans) are thrilled they got him for all that cash. Hilarious sport. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 02:39 AM) Well put. Hindsight is always 20/20. I was one of those fans that wasn't sure the Sox should extend the QO but that was based on Samardzija's ERA being above 5 and pitching like s*** at the time. Thankfully I was wrong in my thinking. I was screaming for Sox to trade EVERYBODY including Shark, Robertson, LaRoche (ha), Melky, in a do-over from the offseason. I wanted Shark dealt well before the deadline. We were led to believe he wasn't going to bring ANYTHING of note. Then why the heck did the Giants pay top dollar for him??
  18. Here's why you don't trade Sale and just let him walk when it's time for free agency since Sox will never try to sign him then ... No contender (big money organization) is going to part with current big leaguers in a trade for Sale. We will get 3-5 minor league stars for him. Problem is all those minor leaguers could be busts. Think of all the minor league sensations who have flopped. We could get 2-3 first rounders and 2-3 second rounders in a five for one for Sale and all five could be busts. You keep Sale until it's time for the Red Sox to sign him to a seven year 350 million dollar deal. That's where this will be heading for guys like Sale in a couple years. 50 mill a year will be the going rate. It's only escalating. Keep him til he leaves. Minor leaguers blow.
  19. This proves by the way Hahn blew it last year a month before the trade deadline. Shark obviously has value and we could have gotten some talent for him, despite the fact I think he blows. Obviously there are teams out there that think Shark is worth five years and TOP dollar.
  20. Baseball 2015. Shark horrid with sox and gets rich five year deal. Hilarious. All that money for a bad bad pitcher
  21. Trades for CarGo and DJ LeMahieu White Sox get: CarGo and LeMahieu Rockies get: Frankie Montas, Adam LaRoche, Carlos Sanchez and Avi Garcia OK post, but why in the hell would a Rockies GM want LaRoche, Sanchez and/or Avi? Those guys are all bottom feeder of rosters so to speak.
  22. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 08:31 PM) Thats where I file every move. Someday I'm gonna like one, I promise. But you are right, man I've hated the acquisitions since we became a perennial sub .500 team. (You post was funny, so I had to respond; OK I'm not gonna comment on this move in this thread anymore; I made my point clear; I dislike). On to the next one, Mr. Hahn, Impress me!
  23. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 09:23 PM) Greg, Navarro had an .894 OPS vs LHP last season. Should be a decent platoon. It's definitely not worse. I'll stop, lest I become a pest in this thread. Just remember, Greg was against the move. File it under "he didn't like it."
  24. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 09:14 PM) Avila/Navarro is a better combo and it's not even close. There is no point in having a combo of Flowers and Soto. They both hit right handed and can't hit RHP. We'll see, I guess. I just don't understand why you guys are OK with this move. I'd keep Flowers around and if you had to sign one of Avila/Navarro to replace Soto, fine. This move screams of the kind of move a lousy team makes, to me. Flowers may have stunk, but he didn't deserve to get the non-tender over either of those 2 guys IMO.
