  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 19, 2015 -> 03:56 AM) Just once I want Greg to say something positive about this country. C'mon!!!! I'm a liberal Democrat and I can at least think of 10 1) Best university system in the world, especially graduate programs in medicine/MBA/law, etc. 2) First Amendment baby! 3) Most choices/variety for food/restaurants and retail shopping 4) Most religious diversity 5) Best sports leagues in the world (other than maybe EPL) 6) Accessibility to loans for cars, houses, higher education 7) Best entertainment (movies, tv shows, music, etc.) in the world 8) Cleaner air/water than developing world 9) Relative safety based on the remoteness of North American continent from the rest of the world 10) Best national parks and highway system for seeing the country Not a bad list. I think our lousy economy, however, is the biggest deal right now, though. I think we're in a world of hurt. I just hope we avoid a total collapse of the banking system and all our savings are gone and we'll be on the street once we get laid off by our broke employers.
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 19, 2015 -> 04:29 PM) https://www.yahoo.com/politics/cia-shrugs-o...9243022390.html Uh oh...CIA not convinced by Benghazi email investigation that top secret national security that would put lives at risk was breached. This is all nothing. She's skating free of any responsibility. Look, the fix is in. Hillary is president the next 8 years. Pity the middle class and poor. We're doomed economically 8 more years which pretty much will guarantee 2 generations of kids will not even have it as good as their parents (unless born wealthy).
  3. QUOTE (Doc Edwards Shot @ Oct 19, 2015 -> 06:54 PM) I'm tuning into all the Cubs playoff games for two reasons: 1) I like intense postseason baseball - the kind that we Sox fans unfortunately won't be seeing our team involved in for another decade 2) I have to be there for the inevitable Cubs screwup/curse that ends their 2015 Cinderella story. It's gonna happen, you watch! So far Cubs haven't done squat in this series. They might battle back but they've looked like s*** so far.
  4. OK ... on a lighter note, SNL opened with a political skit again on the democratic debate. They got it right in getting the guy from Curb Your Enthusiasm, Larry David, to play Bernie Sanders. Unfortunately he wasn't funny. Bad writing. Alec Baldwin was the closest to being funny and he wasn't. The only chuckle came again from the great Kate McKinnon who usually has at least one funny Hillary line. Her material wasn't really that good either, just the basic funny premise that Hillary wants to be president so badly. Did you watch it? Think it was OK? I'd give the skit a C-. And the Larry David part a D. Sorry SNL. Not funny enough. On a serious note: Guys, I've been thinking more about her email thing. I'm thinking if this was anybody else she'd be out of the race over this issue. I'm thinking she is skating on this one and it probably was serious enough to take down anybody else who had done it.
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 19, 2015 -> 03:33 AM) Just like Puig to the White Sox for Quintana, unless they're 100% convinced Ryu will be healthy next year...then they'd be better off picking a couple of 3-5 guys off the second and third tier FA list. Of course, it depends on what happens with Greinke. Nobody is going to be rushing out after Price and Cueto with their shakiness issues (or just general problems adjusting to the AL in Cueto's case). But who knows...everyone's waiting to see the dollar signs with Greinke, Heyward, Cespedes, Upton, Price and Cueto posted first. Yeah there are only so many big market teams. Those teams already have some of the insane contracts. I mean Greinke I read is getting 150 mill for 5 years. That's 30 mill a year. WHoever pays that can keep signing others? Are "normal" payrolls going to be 200 to 250 million and the big market teams 400 mill? You'd think owners would wise up some year. Uh, Minnesota almost made the playoffs. Yes Minnesota. They didn't need no massive contracts cept for Mauer.
  6. QUOTE (Mike F. @ Oct 19, 2015 -> 05:43 AM) Do you really think that Maddon would have made the Sox 16 games better this past season? I sort of do because I don't see anything special on the Cubs roster right now compared to ours (considering the Flubs stars are so young; now potentially it's a different story). I think Robin epically failed and Madden somehow got a similar team to win 97 games.
  7. My comments on the series ... -- If Royals want to win it they better get another great effort out of Cueto and win Game 3. Why? Ned is conceding game four by starting Young. That is like forfeiting the game. Laugh at me all you want, but I'd start Duffy. At least he has exceptional talent and despite the fact he's thrown some stinkers, he has the capability of pulling a Volquez and throwing 6-7 stellar innings. Again, he might bomb but Young will bomb! So that leaves it on Cueto's shoulders in Game 3. A loss would/will devastate KC IMO. -- That Game 2 win was impressive. Baseball should be ashamed of itself starting games where the shadows will dominate for 6 innings. It's annoying for the TV viewer and downright dangerous for hitters and fielders. They can't see the damn ball. It's an abomination! No shadows. -- KC is not out of the woods yet. Rios remains a baseball "bum." He still could just about single-handedly ruin this for KC and its fans. I will give him credit though. So far he's had a few huge hits in the postseason. His defense remains wickedly awful. I can't forgive him for his lousy years with the Sox. Mr. Rios ... you are NO Jermaine Dye. -- Herrera and Davis have been pitching very very well. This is a Ned godsend because Herrera has not been nails the entire season. Human at times. -- KC fans annoy me by standing too much during the game. Sit down chumps. -- KC still is more dangerous when guys like Dyson and Gore are in the game reeking havoc. I realize they can't play because Rios is in right. -- Cain swings very hard. Surprised his back can hold up during a whole season as hard as he swings. Finally, I am not impressed with Toronto's manager. In fact I think he's a hack. LaTroy Hawkins?? Are u bleeping me? He's gotta hope toronto's big guns start hitting the ball over the fence and Tulo turns back into Tulo.
  8. The Cubs? I really don't see it. Their bats were really dead in New York. I guess they could come back and win but that's not a championship caliber team. The only way it is one is if their young sluggers start blasting balls out of the park at a rapid pace. After watching some playoff games, I see the Cubs as the weakest team of the four by far. I know we don't value managers on here, but I really believe Madden is the only reason they won 97 games. That's a ton of games. If we had Madden ... wowsie!! He'd have figured a way to win 92 games with our pitching staff!
  9. Do you guys agree with me the Sox will get the least amount of media EVER this upcoming spring training into the season? The Cubs have that young core and the rabid fanbase and just a few months after making the NLCS the media will be salivating to reporting on their spring training. And after acquiring Price? Meanwhile, we got the buzzkiller LaRoche and the offseason stories about how his hand hurt all year or something and he's bound to be a star again?? I do love Robin the personality and the player, but really White Sox?? How can you keep the guy after what happened this past season? My opinion is Hahn/Kenny/Jerry truly believe there's no difference maker like Madden out there and they are waiting on Girardi's firing by the Yanks after next season.
  10. I was just reading an article on Mark that said he definitely could pitch right now if he was on the active roster. Toronto deserves to LOSE for not putting him on the postseason roster. I mean LaTroy Hawkins?? I'm sure the Royals are VERY HAPPY Buehrle is ineligible to pitch. He's a Royals killer like Danks. Can't you just picture Mark taking the mound and mowing down the KC lineup? Now that he's available at a low price, Sox definitely should sign him. However we already have way too many lefties and Danks has no trade value so I guess acquiring Mark would be dumb. If we knew Mark could again win 14 games and pitch 199 innings effectively like this year then we could afford to trade Q in a blockbuster since we have some young starting pitching ready to produce. Anyhow ... f*** Toronto for not letting Mark pitch against a team he OWNS. Weird.
  11. Republican Meghan McCain has a good, interesting, intellectual talk show on the radio, AmericaNow network. That.Is.All.
  12. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Oct 16, 2015 -> 02:21 PM) Sounds like the 3 second stop is just pissing everyone else off. Seriously, 1 second is long enough. Stop, look, go. I'll try that one and see what happens.
  13. QUOTE (Knackattack @ Oct 16, 2015 -> 01:31 PM) Excuse my ignorance but what the hell made Harry and Jimmy such bad guys in Reinsdorf's book? My dad at one point was a big wig with some of the chairman's investors/co-owners. He said Harry was a complete asshole (my assumption is when he got drunk he probably told the chairman and the others to go f*** themselves as he met his legions of female fans at the Rush Street bars). I'd assume Harry was too big for everybody including Mr. Reinsdorf.
  14. Well admittedly Greg has been off a bit on predictions. So Chicago Cubs fans are in trouble if this holds. For I see NO WAY the Cubs can lose to the Mets. Cubs are a lock. Why? Well the Mets aren't prime time material No. 1. No. 2? I hate to go there, but this is all for Ernie Banks. The Cubs are wearing 14 on the sleeve this year for Banks. So what happens? Somehow they actually make the playoffs ahead of schedule, beat the Cardinals of all teams and now play the Mets, yes the Mets. The team that made Ernie's life hell as Leo Durocher blamed him for the 69 collapse. the Mets are the team that prevented Ernie from going to the Series. The Cubs were never the same after that. I'm pretty serious about this. Is heaven letting Ernie orchestrate this postseason?? It sure as hell seems that way. Cubs are a lock to play Toronto in the series. Does this mean KC and New York are assured the WS? We shall see but Greg has given his honest analysis and I've been off my predictive game a bit of late.
  15. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Oct 16, 2015 -> 04:49 AM) Stopping for 1 second is a complete stop also. But it's risky with our ticket happy cops here in Ks. 3 seconds is a winner.
  16. I have a question. With the high cost of health care, what happens if you are diagnosed with a terminal disease and you have no insurance and no money? Does the medical system have the right to kill you? Refuse to provide you meds and treatment? Isn't that involuntary manslaughter? Secondly ... if you have a terminal disease, no insurance and no savings, can you deny treatment to avoid going into debt for your survivors? In effect you'd be killing yourself and I thought suicide was illegal. Hmmm...
  17. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Oct 15, 2015 -> 02:03 AM) Why are you stopping and counting to 3 every time? Just stop...and then go...You dont have to sit there for 3 seconds. Three seconds is a complete stop. I'm amazed at how 'nobody' comes to a complete stop but me now in this town. It's pretty insane. I just wish the cop was honest with me. "I could let you off, bub, but it's the end of the month, start of a new month and you know what I'm talking about."
  18. I know this board has decided that managers really don't matter at all. And I know a couple posters think I post about the Cubs too much. But I have a question for Robin lovers. ... Do you think if he managed the Cubs this year they'd have been lucky to be .500? I think so. Why? The lack of urgency of his teams. It's always early in Robin-land and White Sox land. There's always the chance the team will get red hot and steal a WC berth. I truly think he couldn't have gotten this young Cub team much above .500 if even above .500. Conversely do you think Maddon could have gotten us a WC? I happen to say yes. We have a GREAT pitching staff and a few good hitters. Call me a moron but I think we have a mediocre to lousy manager and the Cubs unfortunately have a good one as do the Indians. BRING BACK GARDY baby. South SIDE Gardy.
  19. QUOTE (AlSoxfan @ Oct 16, 2015 -> 12:59 AM) MARK BUEHRLE DENIES RETIREMENT TALK The veteran pitcher, who was left off the Blue Jays' active roster for the playoffs thus far, said he hasn't made a decision to call it quits at age 36, despite reports to the contrary at the end of the regular season. Those reports at the end of the season were very appalling. I know the media sucks but those "sources" that said he was finished obviously made it up. Or the guy who broke the story made it up and everybody else pretended their UNNAMED sources backed it up. Very lazy reporting. He must have a tired arm or something. I cant see why Toronto wouldn't want a veteran WS winner on the postseason roster. Very weird. He had a pretty fine season BTW. Mark must have confessed he's toast for this October. Why have the lazy media not done a story on Mark's take on this stuff??
  20. QUOTE (flavum @ Oct 15, 2015 -> 01:33 PM) Saw this on MLB Network last night. Poor kid...looks like Jason Vargas's. I hope the child is OK. That kid went down for the count it looked like on the video.
  21. Toronto bats figure to bash the Royals. If the Dodgers win they should maul the Cubs. Sorry KC fans, the best teams are going to prevail and Toronto is just a better hitting team than KC and KC's pitching has reeked pretty much. Cubs aren't ready for prime time. They are hot admittedly. Toronto-LAD World Series will have low ratings.
  22. Thanks to Little Hurt for recognizing I did pick the right score 7-2. Cueto did exactly what the Royals wanted him to do - win a huge playoff game. Too bad for KC his positioning in the rotation won't be optimal in the ALCS. KC is gonna have to win with Volquez/Duffy in Game One cause Volquez is a 4-5 inning pitcher now.
  23. Let's face it. Cub mania is about to explode. The Sox and we Sox fans have a chance to prove our loyalty cause the Sox are gonna be second citizens for a long, long time now that the Cubs have Maddon and are young and playoff bound for years to come. They also as a large market team have the money to spend, spend spend to keep bringing in name players to go with the kids and we as a small market team don't have the $$$s to try to right the wrongs of LaRoche and Melky. I realize we've always been second citizens as Sox fans to a certain extent, but this is different. The media has changed a ton since 2005 and our team is now buried in oblivion. Any media coverage our team gets will be secondary. Again, that's probably good cause the Sox are gonna HAVE to get off their asses and escape this flirting with .500 bulls***. It's time to field a consistent winning team SOON or get no attention and see attendance stick to about 15,000 to 18000 a game IMO.
  24. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Oct 14, 2015 -> 09:01 PM) The big reason for this is that they are not finding the jobs that they WANT. There are plenty of jobs out there. The problem is that when kids are in high school everybody says you need to go to college. How many jobs do these young people think are out there for somebody with a political science degree or an art degree? If you graduate college in a strong field the jobs are there. Interesting post. I have no knowledge so I can't comment. Your comment intrigues me. Are young people really majoring in art and Poly Sci? I mean cmon. Badger might tell us ... are there tons of jobs for young lawyers? What about nurses and doctors? Anybody know? What about architecture and engineering and geology? The article I read said 22-29 year old grads couldn't find work and the over 50s, forgetaboutit. Companies want to keep salaries down, hence are undervaluing the 30-49 crowd.
  25. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 14, 2015 -> 09:07 PM) I think that claim is pretty delusional. A majority of Democrats, at least as of now, support Clinton as the nominee. That doesn't mean they want to "coronate" her. I've been blabbering about my hatred for Hillary forever on here and yet no Democrat has actually told me why they like her? No obvious support for her positions (what positions, queen of flip flop), no obvious defense of my attacks on her mean-ness, no nothing. It's as if they are saying, "Hey I want Hillary, OK???" I think my claim is accurate. It's Hillary's turn and as Kate McKinnon said on SNL, "LET ME LEAD!"
