Sale pitching in AS Game in Emergency situation ONLY

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 05:56 AM) Is this the worst thread going right now? Holy good lord people it's a f***ing All Star Game. Do we have new 12 year old posters that I didn't know about? No need to insult us. Yes it's only an exhibition game, but what makes the White Sox so special that they were the only team to ask (demand?) they not use one of their players? The last place, woeful White Sox. They truly are a laughingstock over this issue. I'm still waiting to see if Chris Sale takes the heat off the front office by saying he "didn't feel right" or something. That's all he needs to say and people like me have to shut up. Will he do that, though? How many teams didn't have a player compete in the game? I do not know the answer. Was it just the White Sox? At least Big Hurt was one of the commentators. Seriously though. Some of us have the right to be mad about Sale not pitching. I wonder when is the last time a White Sox did not appear in the game. Some franchises are proud to show off their best players; the Sox ask that the player not be used. I bet Yost got sick of dealing with Robin and just said, "Fine he won't f***ing pitch unless we need him in extra innings and there's no other option." If I was Sale and I wanted to pitch, I'd sure let the Sox beat writers know it wasn't my call. Hopefully Sale will call out those who made this call or shut me up by saying he hasn't felt 100 percent right lately. He could even say he's had a bug or something. That shuts Greg up. -

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 04:09 AM) Since the question was asked. I'm not in the least bit disappointed. I am however glad that by not pitching tonight Sale will most likely pitch against the division rival/leading Royals during that four game series this weekend. And yes, I will sleep very well tonight! Somebody else mentioned this, but today is Tuesday. If he pitched tonight he could pitch Sunday on four days rest. I guess Chris' arm really, truly is tired. He needs a lotta time off. BTW kudos to all the pitchers who agreed to pitch tonight and their franchises who allowed them to pitch. They risked life and limb tonight in taking the mound. They could have been hit by a line drive, they could have suffered a career ending injury. Like Atlee Hammaker they could have given up 7 runs and be so shaken they'd never be the same again! Kudos to those who risked EVERYTHING to play in tonight's exhibition. At least the Sox could now, that the damage is past, pitch him, uh in the DH on Friday?? Pretty please? -
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 01:28 AM) Given that the Sox have been around for over 100 years, that's quite the embarrassing list. I wouldn't call it embarrassing. You've got Thomas, a Hall of Famer. Baines, who was pretty damn good with 2,866 hits, Konerko the Sox all time career home run leader and Minoso, who it goes without saying is the face of our franchise. I like the list. I'm sure the old, old timers who got overlooked would tip their caps to these four as well.

By the way, if Sale wants to coddle Robin/Coop, whoever made this call, he'll say after the game he didn't quite feel right since his last start and asked for the time off. That will shut up people like me whether it's true or not. Will Sale cooperate and say this? Hmmmmm -

QUOTE (ChrisLikesBaseball @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 02:40 AM) Sale pitching tonight would set him up to pitch Sunday on normal rest.. With an estimated 10 million people watching this game, is there a better outlet to market arguably the best player the organization has had this century? Sox don't care about such things with their last place baseball team. They need to protect a pitcher for an upcoming series against a team 18 over .500 when they are 4 under .500. QUOTE (La Marr Hoyt HOF @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 02:55 AM) The White Sox get so little focus to begin with, we have nothing to root for with this crap team and everyone wants to see Sale this is such bullsh't. Fck you Robin, seriously........... I'm so pissed off about this. You think every other pitcher on this game most of who are on a playoff race don't have similar 'rest of season' dynamics? I'm still so f***ing mad about this crap. Fire Ventura now! QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 02:59 AM) More arm chair tough guy s*** from people who barely played the game past the age of 12. Hey I played through high school. QUOTE (La Marr Hoyt HOF @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 03:03 AM) Whatever dude. Only team in MLB not represented tonight. Nice work Sox. I agree with you LaMarr. And you were a great pitcher. You'd have won game five against the Orioles if we could have mustered one run in 9 innings in Game Four. QUOTE (reiks12 @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 03:46 AM) how many young white sox fans feel disappointed tonight? Tons of them should feel disappointed. I would NEVER let Sale attend the game again because of Robin/Coop, whoever made this call. -

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 02:30 AM) Players rarely "know their body" that's why they get hurt. Ptatc: Tell me what other pitchers and players are in jeopardy tonight? Is it just Sale? Why haven't we heard about other teams wanting to hold players out tonight? Is this just a Sale issue? Is he the only big league pitcher susceptible to being hurt if used tonight? Would you have told him to stay home and add a player who might help the AL team win? -

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 02:22 AM) I don't get why you don't understand that a: teams don't give up on playing competitively at the all star break because fans on Kansas feel that they are out of the race at 4 games under and 80 to play, and b: Chris Sale is representing the White Sox as a selected All Star, which is an honor even though he has done it before. He isn't being coddled, his team would rather him be ready for his normal start on normal rest and normal side sessions, instead of uncertainty from pitching an EXHIBITION game. Then you tell me please why any team has agreed to let their players play in this EXHIBITION game! Anybody could get hurt. How dare anybody be allowed to play. How dare any GM allow his pitcher to pitch. Now he can't pitch the first couple games of the next series!! I can't believe some of you are OK with Sale being babied like this when other big leaguers have to take the mound tonight! -

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 02:18 AM) Most people that are angry about him not pitching would criticize the Sox for letting him pitch if he happens to get hurt in the game. It's an exhibition game. No reason to have him pitch. What is the basis of him getting hurt??? Anybody could get hurt? Why did the Dodgers dare let Greinke pitch?? Why are the Mets letting this young flamethrower pitch? -

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 02:12 AM) I'm sure they asked Sale beforehand if he would be ok starting in Kansas City and he probably said he'd prefer starting that game to try and get them back into things If every team asked to keep their pitchers out of the game there'd be no game. Especially ones who are on 2 days rest. If Sale is that brittle, outlaw him from all future all star games. I certainly would never add him again if I was the AL manager/selection committee people. -

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 01:54 AM) First you get upset at beards. Now you are upset that our number 1 pitcher isn't pitching in an exhibition game. You get upset at the oddest things. I just don't get a.) why the White Sox would care if Sale pitches tonight. Very rarely do you hear about something this petty being requested when a guy is already on 2 days rest. b.) why Sale even made the trip. he should be embarrassed and furious he's being coddled like this as a member of a last place team. -

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 12:31 AM) Well this post is ridiculous. I want to know how many pitchers available tonight pitched on Saturday. Probably half or more. What a fricking joke. White Sox are very very disappointing organization. If Sale truly is mad there should be some articles in the Trib on this! -

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 12:34 AM) So did Sale. Unfortunate. I hope Sale is so pissed at Cooper and Ventura for making a big deal out of this. He should be FURIOUS. He knows his body. This team is four under and KC 18 over. Yeah that's sure a big series coming up ... NOT. Sale should be so mad at this joke of an organization. Pitching Saturday then Tuesday is a big deal??? Why not just shut him down a month so he doesn't get hurt? -

QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 10:10 PM) If White Sox management did not want Sale to pitch, they should have "excused " him from the roster. If a guy goes to the game, he should want to participate, not go and be a cheerleader. The manager should try and play as many players as possible. Exactly. You guys get your wish. A White Sox player won't be playing in the all-star game. I think now I've heard everything. Royals fans are going delirious over watching tonight's game and all their players. We Sox fans don't want our one guy to play. My gosh I've never seen anything like this. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 10:31 PM) Good news! Congrats to you guys who don't want a Sox player in the game. Unfricking-believable to me. I remember as a kid going crazy in happiness when a Sox player entered the game, especially if it was a pitcher facing a Cub or vice versa. Crazy many of you were freaking out about one inning. Sale should never have clogged up a roster spot. He pitched on Saturday! Horrors he might go an inning on Tuesday. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 07:08 PM) I know Ned Yost would be pretty happy to miss Chris Sale. Pitching him gives him a chance at that happening. Even if they White Sox lose 100 games, you never know if facing Sale vs. not facing him is a 1 game difference in KC's overall record, and how perhaps what that one game difference means to the Royals at the end of the season. I think you guys are insane, truly nuts. Since when did we start not wanting our guys to play in All Star games and think the manager has some agenda?? This is Chris Sale. He should pitch in the darn all star game and I WANT him to pitch desperately not rest. My gosh, the Royals are 18 over .500 and we are 4 under. They could drop 15 in a row and still beat the Sox out. The Royals will take 3 of 4 by just showing up at the Cell. Yost isn't fretting about Chris Sale. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 07:12 PM) Dude, you're just wrong on this. The Sox relative threat to the Royals is irrelevant. Sale has a winning record on this lousy team - how does that happen? Royals haven't wrapped up jack. So Ned Yost is plotting some effort to make sure Sale doesn't face his team?? Makes absolutely no sense. It's more of a slap to the Sox if Sale doesn't pitch. They can sell the series, "LETS SHOW YOST!! SALE SHOULD HAVE PITCHED!! HES ONE OF THE BEST AND HE GOT OVERLOOKED By YOST. MUST HAVE BEEN BECAUSE OF THE FIGHT EARLIER THIS SEASON!" QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 07:12 PM) Trust me, you have no idea what you are talking about Yost is not thinking about the White Sox impending series and Chris Sale. Cmon. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 07:21 PM) This is baseball, the lousy teams still win more than 40% of the time (and this year the Sox have won 47%), bad teams win series against good teams all the time, and the Sox won the last series the two teams played. The idea that a team would look past another team when they are a division rival and have a pitcher like Sale is one of the most ridiculous things I've read. The Royals haven't clinched anything yet. The idea Yost is plotting to make sure Sale can't face the Sox is pretty dumb. I mean we are talking about the White Sox here, the lousy, anemic White Sox. It's a total snub if Sale doesn't pitch tonight. Not Yost in some sinister plot. The guy pitched on Saturday. Today is Tuesday for gosh sakes. 1-2 innings tonight. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 01:48 PM) It has nothing to do with "being afraid of the White Sox". He has a 4 game series vs. the White Sox and Sale pitching the All Star Game may mean he doesn't have to face him which gives KC a better chance of winning a game. That isn't just the White Sox who would benefit, but each team in the division. It is probably very rare to have a 4 game series vs. Chicago and miss Sale. Maybe he won't, but Robin did mention perhaps holding Sale back until Tuesday if he did pitch. Trust me. Nobody is concerned about an advantage in a series against a lousy sox team. Hope sale gets the win tonite -
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 01:17 AM) Danks has to pitch at some point though. Who cares if it's Friday night? They want to give Sale extra rest. I thought it was a four game series. I want Sale, Shark, Q and Rodon.
-
QUOTE (woods of ypres @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 04:18 AM) I think they should sell. We've seen this movie, there isn't a second half comeback. Sell off Shark, LaRoche, Cabrera, Ramirez, Robertson, anyone who isn't the obvious (sale, q, eaton, rodon, etc.). Exactly. We have seen this movie and I love your post. TRADE 'em all.

This is crazy. Yost is not scared of the White Sox for goshsakes and not scared of Sale pitching for the White Sox. Sale happens to be a helluva pitcher and if I were the manager of the AL I'd f***ing want to pitch him as well. This is stupid. The Royals own the White sox no matter who is pitching. Why the hell would Yost care about the White Sox this weekend? Even if KC dropped all four, they'd be way ahead of the pathetic White Sox. I don't mind discussion but this one is just dumb. Yost is manager of the AL team and Sale is one of the best pitchers in all of baseball. Of course he SHOULD pitch Tuesday. As a Sox fan and viewing I WANT him to pitch in the all star game. -
QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 09:38 PM) If they wait til Tuesday for Sale, it will feel like a "really, we'd rather not maintain a charade of competing, and would like to do some selling" kind of move. I agree. Can any person convince me why it is a good idea to pitch Danks in Game Two of that DH? What you do is go with Shark and Sale and see if just maybe you can stick it up the Royals' backsides and win the DH. Now you are guaranteeing a loss in Game Two and one of their lefties just might connect off Shark. You are right, though. It ultimately is a charade, we don't have the team this year. I did think we might want to go with our top guns one final series to see if we can knock off the Royals and maybe contend for a WC. This is such a dumb move, I do question the common sense of Coop/Robin. And this is coming from a Danks lover like me. I truly love the guy.
-
QUOTE (Dunt @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 07:42 PM) Avi has proven a pretty useless major league piece at this point. He is weak hitting, atrocious fielding corner outfielder who doesnt walk and strikes out a bunch. He has been below replacement level for his career thus far. I would rather have the "proven veteran" with the 100 pt higher ISO manning a position that requires you to be a power hitter. Not saying you are wrong, but I didn't realize Avi stunk this much. Is he this big a disaster or are you exaggerating?
-
QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 12, 2015 -> 05:37 PM) Of course I hate what they're actually doing. Samardzija, Danks on Friday Quintana on Saturday Sale or Rodon Sunday (TBD) Very dumb. As much as I do love Danks, I concede that is an automatic loss in Game Two Friday. Why would you throw Danks there?? It makes absolutely no sense. I agree with the poster. The Sox are basically in a position they have to sweep the Royals or grudgingly win 3 of the 4 to have any shot at contention this season. So why wouldn't you give it your best shot, at home! You go Sale, Shark, Q, Rodon. I worship John Danks but I do concede he is our fifth starter!! This is a no brainer. Fire whoever came up with this decision NOW! Coop, Robin or Hahn. Stupid.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 05:53 PM) If it keeps him from pitching the Royals series, it's a very smart move. I'm sure Yost is afraid of Sale in the 4-game series, lol. -
I'd trade Melky and LaRoche for Bruce, nobody else except guys like Beckham and Boni and Conor and nobody wants those stiffs.
-
QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 12, 2015 -> 08:16 PM) He's started to see how he does in case they trade some of the others as well as to give other starters rest. RV obviously doesn't care for Bonifacio's play for some reason. The problem is Boni is making good money like Keppinger was, right? It's tough to release guys making a few bucks. I bet Saladino does go down. I'd prefer simply releasing either Beckham or Boni. Either one. Release one of the two.
