QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Sep 17, 2014 -> 03:55 AM) As a former college player, I was an outfielder (righty), I would of much rathered of faced a righty than a lefty. I honestly don't get it because with lefties at least for me, they have natural run on their fastball and a curve down and in to me is just deadly. But when facing a righty, I could read the fastball cutting or coming back in to me, and much easier to pick up a curve or slider and lay off. It just baffles me. Interesting. I remember being able to see the ball so much better against the rare lefty it was like a picnic facing one as a righty hitter. And playing third base, I always had a busy game when we had lefties pitching. It seems like there were way more righty hitters back when I played.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 17, 2014 -> 03:46 AM) Gillaspie's splits are much more concerning, IMO Yeah, he can't start against lefties next year. I wonder whom his platoon partner will be at third. Semien is uncomfortable at third, correct?

OMG. Ned's playing the platoon game in the sixth fricking inning? Finnigan can't even stay in to face Viciedo? Baseball is so f***ing boring with all this platooning. Awful. Why do I stay with this sport? Ridiculous.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 17, 2014 -> 03:43 AM) Andy Wilkins is one of the more overmatched prospects the Sox have called up in a long time. I'm amazed at how many baseball players today like Wilkins have no chance of hitting the ball against a pitcher who throws from the same side they hit. I mean is Wilkins EVER going to be able to hit against a lefty?
-

Wilkins obviously had no chance there. Wow.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Sep 17, 2014 -> 03:32 AM) the royals announcers can f*** off. You're the team that is struggling to beat this awful team, jackasses. Terrible announcers. They are from the school of praising KC at all times and mocking the opponent. Denny Matthews on the radio is good; the rest of the guys are horrific.

Webb is LOL bad tonight. Not a big fan at this stage of his career.

Do the Sox eventually run out of pitchers tonight? Bullpen gets call rather early.

QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Sep 16, 2014 -> 09:43 PM) I think once you get to college you are an adult and typically you are spending your own money to be there. If you want to waste it by not paying attention during the lecture, that’s your problem. Great point. I was just thinking the texting might bother a teacher. I know if I was giving a presentation it would throw me off seeing all the people texting and surfing and playing video games rather than listening.

Hillary
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 16, 2014 -> 10:27 PM) It's truly amazing to see how one can shape their memories to fit whatever narrative they want. Yeah, they presented the college professor and great speaker with the crazy black preacher as a regular guy. Sure. Plus they kept saying how great he was at bowling and that didn't dominate any news cycles. You have to admit, though, that Obama and Bill Clinton are a campaign manager's dream. They are great looking men. They look great on TV. They are very very likeable. Hillary, meanwhile ... I cant believe you all don't agree with me about the Bob Dole comparison. She, like Mr. Dole, is cranky at times, known probably more for a scowl than a smile. I am amazed that the Democratic candidate for president has it so easy nowadays. The Republicans are un-electable. That party is so out of date it is unelectable no matter who the Demos toss out there.

Hillary
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 16, 2014 -> 03:48 PM) Yeah, I know, how on earth would Hillary survive a campaign. I can't think of any other time in the past decade when Hillary Clinton has spent a year on the campaign trail. That must be exhausting and draining and I can't imagine her ever doing it. She has a record though of getting grouchy and saying things that are not very nice, certainly normally things not heard on a campaign trail. Even the glowing coverage of the Iowa appearance pointed out the media was shocked she was acting nice. Obama seemed like a regular guy . If Hillary was Republican she wouldn't stand a chance. How is she going to handle the impasse in Congress as well. Those Repubs will have nothing to do with her, even worse than Obama in trying to get any support I'd think. You have to admit this is going to be fascinating to unfold. Hillary is going where most winning candidates do not go -- having a Bob Dole-ish type demeanor. For so many years, part of an election is electing the person who looks the best and sounds the best on camera. Obama and Bill? PERFECT candidates. They are matinee idols in how they look and what they say.

The Republican Thread
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 25, 2014 -> 01:28 PM) Does it really matter? Short of Hillary getting implicated in some very major scandal between now and Nov 2016, there isn't a Republican candidate that can beat her. Romney won't fare any worse than Perry, Paul, Rubio, Bush, Christie or whoever else gets nominated. You are right. My post about Romney was dumb. I guess I was just shocked Romney would put himself through that again when he'd not electable.

Hillary
Read the CNN story that Hillary was making nice with the reporters in Iowa, taking the lead from Bill, who was holding court with them enjoying the attention. Don't know if Hillary can do it in a full campaign. Can a person who does not like the media (Hilly, Chelsea too) suck it up and do interviews and love interviews for 2 plus years? Generally it's hard to fake it that long. Bill innately loves the media so it's no problem. This should be a fascinating study of a person's demeanor in the Hillary campaign/8 years of presidency. You just wonder if she's capable of playing the game that long with the media/public. Like I said it should be fascinating. Also her relationship with Bill during the 8 years should be fascinating. Is he just going to hide? He's a former president for gosh sakes and deserves the fame/accolades former presidents get. I think Bill is a MASTER politician/candidate for office. My gut tells me Hillary is not.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 16, 2014 -> 04:30 AM) 29 years without a playoff appearance will do that to you...even 2003 was a complete tease and that Royals' team wasn't in it going into September as the Twins and White Sox had already blown past them in the standings. The White Sox...only 6, but it seems like a lifetime. I think you are right. They are out of control. They are going crazy. I find myself looking for things Yost does wrong just cause he gets murdered so much by fans on twitter and the talk shows. Tonight I remarked it was dumb of Yost to take Aoki out of the game cause I figured the game would go 12 innings after KC tied it with two outs and then what do you know, the fast pinch runner (for Aoki) comes racing home to win it on a simple ground ball. Yost won them that game if he's being blamed for specific defeats.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 16, 2014 -> 04:37 AM) Eaton, Abreu and Avi all had multiple hits tonight. Danks had a great start. What more could you ask for? You know what I could ask for that I didn't get. It says a lot about the state of MLB that the Sox are not in last place. What a rotten baseball team.

I had Royals fans texting me throughout the game and I told them not to worry that they would win because our bullpen is the worst in baseball. I had to text them and say 'I told you so' even though I hate people who say I told you so. Royals fans are really really pathetic. They are more pessimistic than I am, on the rare occasions the Sox have a good team.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 16, 2014 -> 04:29 AM) Wow, what an incredible way to lose. If I wanted the Sox to win tonight, I'd be furious. I am not furious only because of the sickening KC fans who I hear b**** and moan on the talk shows every day. Yost may be a clown but he made the right moves with the pinch runners tonight. Won them a game. As far as the Sox meltdown clown show late ... I still can't believe all the wild pitches and horrible defense and all-out giving KC that game.

That was such bad baseball by the Sox late. Wild pitches. Lousy defense. Amazing. I was telling somebody Yost might regret taking out Aoki after his 4-for-4. He might need the bat in the 12th inning. Then wham, the pinch runner Gore scores from second on a simple ground ball. He would have scored even had the ball been fielded cleanly I think. Holy cow. Hopefully the White Sox will get this bad baseball out of their system this season and be a contender before too many more years elapse.

High School Football in Illinois
Where does St. Xavier play its games, Chaz. Is there a football stadium on campus? That'd be two stadiums really close to each other: Rice's and St. X.

Stadium
QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Sep 15, 2014 -> 05:45 AM) Are you saying it wasn't cookie cutter? Because the Cell was about as cookie cutter and generic as possible when it was built. It was awful. Absolutely nothing unique about it. Yes it was horrendous. Reinsdorf always liked Kauffman Stadium and patterned it after that. No amenities at all. I wish the Sox had waited a couple years and gotten something like Camden.

The Beheading
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 15, 2014 -> 02:22 AM) Our strong ally against Isis, the nation of Saudi Arabia, that we sell weapons to and who gets money every time we fill up our gas tanks, executed 22 people last month, at least 8 of which were via beheading. Most of them were for drug crimes, including their equivalent of possession. Not a pretty thought, all the beheadings.

QUOTE (BaconOnAStick @ Sep 13, 2014 -> 10:06 PM) Just an fyi, there's a decent amount of evidence that the White Sox are the more popular team in the city and Cook Co. Take a look at those fan maps going off Facebook liked and s***. There's of course no doubt Sox Nation is tiny compared to Cubs Nation and that the greater Metro area (a majority of which resides outside Cook County) is Cubs dominated except for Northwest Indiana. So if you have a team that could very well have a superior following to the Chicago freaking Cubs in your immediate environs you don't bolt. You also look at how America is urbanizing and how Bridgeport/Pilsen are increasingly becoming places people want to live... it'd be stupid to leave. The White Sox are already right in the middle of the league in terms of revenue, and they have a lot of growth potential because of their location. I'm guessing a new park in the next 15 years, with talks heating up around the time the US Cellular naming deal runs up. It will still be at 35th and Shields. Unless the economy skyrockets, there's no way in hell. The State is not going to pay a penny for a new baseball stadium in Chicago. And no way the new owners will use their own money for a stadium. That won't happen. Not for the second team in Chicago. That's my opinion.

2015 Offseason
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 15, 2014 -> 03:38 AM) http://espn.go.com/mlb/player/stats/_/id/2...lejandro-de-aza DeAza's WAR is almost the same in 37 AB's for the Orioles as the 0.6 for almost 5 months with the White Sox. He's 13-37 hitting .350. He hit two homers in a game (a win) and two triples in another game ( a win). I don't understand WAR. Are u saying he's been GOOD with Baltimore and was GOOD in Chicago? Cause his traditional stat numbers in Baltimore have been excellent.

9/13 Doubleheader vs Twins
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 14, 2014 -> 08:07 PM) I think he can improve and I don't think it will happen until he plays for a team other than the White Sox. Is it the Sox coaching? The motivating? Why does he need the proverbial change of scenery?

The Beheading
Another beheading today. Again it was the guy with the British accent doing the commentary and I believe the killing. I hope this bastard gets caught and tried for these war crimes. Will be nice to see this guy rot in a U.S. prison after these truly barbaric acts. Bastard.
