  1. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Nov 10, 2008 -> 04:18 PM) So what 5 people didn't feel Alexei was one of the 3 best rookies? It may have been the whole "I'm not voting for him because he was a professional overseas" opinion some people have
  2. makai media used to keep me busy for hours
  3. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 10, 2008 -> 01:24 PM) Is there something wrong with 20 year olds who are oozing with talent and ready to jump to AAA next season? Well for one, I have reason to believe he is not actually 20. He's also been somewhat injury prone early in his career. And for someone with his raw ability, he hasnt overwhelmed in the minors yet. There's just something I'm not sold on with him like I was two years ago.
  4. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Nov 10, 2008 -> 11:36 AM) According to De Luca the Cubs are not willing to include Samardzija in a deal for Peavy. He names Marshall, Hart and Fontenot as the possible garbage heading to San Diego. I think its more of Samardzija not willing to waive his NTC (how the hell did he get that!?)
  5. QUOTE (Texsox @ Nov 8, 2008 -> 12:02 AM) Won't happen. People won't get off their butts. They expect the government to just hand them everything. You'll be able to stay in school and get them sweet government checks. And criminals generally do not help in classrooms, coach sports in youth leagues, and other avenues for service to their communities. Just ask Fraternity members who do community service as part of their commitment to their frat. But, hey if it makes you feel like a criminal, just sit there and laugh at the do gooders and enjoy that handout. What is that supposed to mean?
  6. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 7, 2008 -> 06:10 PM) I figured that was a given I'd imagine it would stay on PS3/Xbox also. Dont know why it wouldnt when it got such good reviews and did so well on both systems
  7. QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Nov 7, 2008 -> 05:13 PM) I believe that they have a stud CF in their organization who is 19 or 20 and played very well in AA last season. He would have to be the centerpiece of any deal involving Jenks. Just say no to Fernando Martinez!
  8. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Nov 9, 2008 -> 01:49 PM) and because they are generally pretty dumb. Wow... Edit: Nevermind
  9. The Rangers are seeking a compensatory pick next year b/c they never had Alexei Cherepanov under contract so technically he would be able to be drafted again next year...
  10. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Nov 7, 2008 -> 04:16 PM) http://www.politicsinminnesota.com/ Nothing to see here......move along......No new votes being added here....... I can't find the link, but I read somewhere that the tape they provided with the new totals on it had the wrong date. The optical scanners make a printout when done, and the election judges are supposed to sign it and make it available for public display. Apparently that wasnt done. Give them enouugh time, I am sure they can 'fix' that date error on the tape. I was a statistics major and yes, if 100% of 100 votes went one way, even if you assume that 70% is the norm would be considered a statistically almost-impossibility (there is no impossibility). However, i thought it was reported that the number was under 100 and the '1' got dropped in first the pass. For example it really was 140 and they wrote 40 on accident.
  11. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 7, 2008 -> 03:56 PM) Sorry about your Dog, man. That must just suck. I never had dogs or cats because my family was allergic. Then I got married, and inherited her cat. I have never had one, and wasn't even really a cat person. But damned if I haven't gotten attached to the little guy, and I just don't even want to think about losing him. Dogs >>> Cats
  12. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 7, 2008 -> 03:18 PM) Its funny, I never hear anyone say this about the other I in Congress (Sanders, VT). Then again, I don't know much about him either. I may have to do some reading up. I dont know much about him either, other than he exists. I'm guessing thats what most people know about him also.
  13. QUOTE (Texsox @ Nov 7, 2008 -> 03:09 PM) I am kind of sad to see Old Joe acting this way. I can't say he doesn't deserve the treatment he is receiving. But I find no joy in watching it happen. In a small way he represents someone like we've talked about here. A true centralist who embraces planks from both platforms. I wish there were more people like him in government. Those who represent both parties and dont let party politics stand in the way of what their opinion is on an issue.
  14. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 7, 2008 -> 02:49 PM) From IGN. What a great review it got, I might have to rent this bad boy. On a related note, i heard a rumor that once Bethesda is done with Fallout3 (now) they are going to begin work on ES:V
  15. QUOTE (Steff @ Nov 7, 2008 -> 01:04 PM) Oops.. meant that Kinghtly gal. Keira Knightley I love her...
  16. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Nov 7, 2008 -> 12:16 PM) Gotcha. Drivers ed was probably a reach. But what about the government already mandating that every Illinois student pass a Constitution test? One can argue that this requirement is imposed for social reasons as well as educational ones, as it helps ensure basic fundamentals of "good citizenship." I see this community service thing kind of the same way, and kids might actually help contribute something positive while learning things in a real world setting they might not otherwise experience; not unlike an internship. Nobody I know has a big problem with the government mandating a Constitution requirement. Is that just because its easier satisfied than service? I'm not sure what constitution test you are referring to. I've done all my schooling and lived all my life in Germany and various parts of New York state
  17. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Nov 7, 2008 -> 11:43 AM) Where do you want that break? Since we're talking about middle school/high school/collegiate requirements (did you even read the article before posting?), its EXACTLY the same thing. Geometry, Algebra, Spanish and drivers ed were a waste of my time, and I wouldn't have bothered with any if not "forced" to take them. BFD. What does being forced to stop at stop signs and refraining from criminal assault have to do with the subject of mandatory graduation requirements? Double down on your "Damn". The requirements set forth by the college to graduate are the right of that college as the private institution they are. They set the standards to which they want to graduate their students. The government stepping in and mandating that a college student perfrom 'x' amount of comm service hours per year is ridiculous. Performing community service does nothing to demonstrate any sort of educational aptitude that graduating represents. Taking multiple types of courses allows a person to be able to know that Africa is not a country, how to do basic math, how to keep one's body in decent health etc...Mandating community service (which would no doubt have to be performed outside of school hours) just adds to stress and time contraints that many high school students have (espeically those involved in clubs, sports, jobs etc...). I dont think it is right at all. And my last statement was a crack at your driver's ed statement. I see nothing wrong with forcing people to take a driving course before they can operate a machine that is very easily capable of killing/injuring one's self as well as others. No comparison. (And driver's ed isnt a graduation requirement either)
  18. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Nov 3, 2008 -> 08:49 PM) ISU gets a 2012 basketball commitment from a 15 year old who has yet to play in HS. Awesome. Hey, they had to beat Kentucky to the punch probably
  19. Well let's just hope by 2030 oil isnt needed nearly as much as it is right now.
  20. QUOTE (YASNY @ Nov 7, 2008 -> 11:04 AM) Yes, but you CHOSE that being in the fraternity was worth the community service. You weren't forced to do it. My point was to illustrate being "forced" to do something results in inadequate work/performance and people getting upset. I sometimes ramble and never check what i write on message boards, it may have come across poorly.
  21. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Nov 7, 2008 -> 10:54 AM) When I was in High School, I was forced by the despots at my school to take algebra, geometry, and two years of a foreign language in order to graduate, and I was forced by the totalitarian state to take drivers' ed in order to get my license. Lord knows I've never been the same. GMAB. That is nowhere near the same thing. By that logic, I am forced by the evil government to stop at stop signs and not punch random people in the face if I want to stay out of jail. Damn.
  22. While in college, as part of the requirements of being in my fraternity, each individual is required to do 25 hours of comm service per semester. Its not a lot and being done with it I'm glad i did it, but requiring 100 hours per year is ridiculous. In college, i was busy with 2 majors, often taking 18 credits per semester, was in a couple clubs and i tutored on campus (for money so that didnt count). Community service options are often limited to daytime/weekends. Often times we'd have people half assing it b/c they were tired, hung over, etc and it was obvious. That is a ludicrous amount of hours to force a college student to do. This is just an idea and I havent seen it anywhere before but from this website, so i dont know how much the Obama camp has even said about this, but this is just a terrible idea. Why would anyone want to be forced into serving? All that is going to do is frustrate people. People forced to do a task they dont want to usually results in it being done incorrectly, haphazardly, non chalantly etc. I have no problem with the encouragement to join such groups and respect each and every person who devotes themselves to such things. However, forcing people who dont want to do it, to do it, IMO, is ridiculous.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 6, 2008 -> 12:42 PM) Welcome. To. America. I know the polls/questionnaires that have been released that you are referring to with that, so i understand how ignorant some people truly are. However, Palin has a college degree. It's still hard, and almost unfathomable, for me to believe that someone of her age, with her education, and her current and former jobs, to truly not know Africa isnt a country. I could be wrong, but its just really hard for me to buy.
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 6, 2008 -> 12:45 PM) Did he take MO also? Because CNN's data still shows McCain leading there. Didnt MSNBC call it for McCain?
