  1. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 17, 2008 -> 03:28 PM) Hmmm, a few years ago Pujols complained that someone won the award over him despite their team missing the playoffs. I wonder if his opinion's changed now. +1
  2. QUOTE (Fantl916 @ Nov 17, 2008 -> 03:11 PM) They do, but it's for BA subscriber's only. I would also go as far to guess that 11-15 on that list includes guys like Brent Morel, Steven Upchurch, Dexter Carter, Daniel Hudson which is a testiment to the talent that we also have coming on in the lower minor league levels. I would almost expect those guys to be on the list next year once Getz, Richard, and others lose their prospect status. I never do this, but if anyone is a subscriber and wouldnt mind posting 11-30 that'd be awesome. Also, nice to see Escobar crack the top 10, that kid came out of nowhere this year
  3. QUOTE (KevinM @ Nov 17, 2008 -> 01:29 PM) It isn't as though Kenny isn't prone to mistakes. Cunningham for Richar, Cortes/Lumsden for MacDougal, Contreras extension, Garland for Cabrera, etc. It's easy to be skeptical of this deal because, as of now, on the surface, it was a terrible one. Swisher was not stopping us from signing anyone, save CC (which obviously won't happen). If we're dumping salary, why not get rid of Dye? His defense is absolute trash and his bat is due to cool down any time now. He'd fetch more value than Swisher and save more salary. The trade looks better in people's eyes because the organization pulled their usual "toss player X under the bus" routine. I'm getting really sick of people claiming Garland for Cabrera was a bad move. -Garland performed at his usual mediocre nothing to complain about but nothing to blow you away 4th starter self -Garland is a Type B FA who'll net the Angels 1 pick; Cabrera is a Type A and will net us 2 -Cabrera did not have a bad year for us and it was better than what Uribe would have done -Trading Garland allowed Floyd and Danks to land a spot in the rotation and we saw how that worked out I'm having a really hard time to claim a "loss" for KW here
  4. QUOTE (Texsox @ Nov 17, 2008 -> 08:15 AM) I spent mine in Mexico. If they have another round of them, I know a few buddies of mine and myself have already been talking about using it to go to Europe for a week.
  5. QUOTE (Brian @ Nov 16, 2008 -> 06:30 PM) Ref takes the game out of URI's hands. All ball. Duke up 1 with 10.1 left. URI ball. How does Duke seemingly never not get a call? I dont know much about URI or the A-10 but i dont think URI was terrible last year. Either way, no excuse for Duke to have played like that. That being said, it was awesome to see them struggle and it baffles how once again they are so grossly overrated to start a season
  6. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Nov 16, 2008 -> 02:35 PM) But he was an all-star!!!! .220 BA is just what we need. Yeah, what a joke that was
  7. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Nov 16, 2008 -> 03:10 PM) Does anyone else think that the use of this song in every trailer needs to be stopped? We get it, it’s exhilarating, and epic, but there is no reason to play it in every YouTube montage, tribute video, commercial, and ad. It was very appropriate and swashbuckling for Pirates off the Caribbean. Is it appropriate for Australia? Baseball? Insurance? A home movie? No! No. Dont see what the big deal is either. It's hardly played all the time. I too dont know what you're talking about.
  8. QUOTE (juddling @ Nov 16, 2008 -> 04:01 PM) I'm not a JT fan, but i'll admit that usually his SNL appearances are usually pretty good.....this past week was no exception...Single ladies It helps to know it's a parody of Beyonce's video "Single Ladies" I also dont generally like the guy, but he's been hilarious on SNL and when he hosted whatever it was recently (ESPYs i think) he was also quite funny
  9. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 16, 2008 -> 02:06 PM) A couple of White Sox notes from Gammons: • Ken Williams is one of the winter's most significant wheelers and dealers. He is marketing Javier Vazquez, Bobby Jenks, Jermaine Dye and others as he tries to overhaul the White Sox. The Mets are afraid of the red flag on Jenks, whose strikeout rate has dropped precipitously from 50 in 39 1/3 innings in 2005 to 38 in 61 2/3 innings this past season. And although GM Omar Minaya checked in on Sabathia, it does not mean the Mets will get into a bidding war with the Yankees for the 2007 AL Cy Young Award winner. • Scouts in Arizona for the Arizona Fall League and the White Sox's minor league people are convinced that Gordon Beckham, the eighth pick in the MLB draft this past June, will be Chicago's everyday second baseman by June. Funny how some scouts say this, yet according to some scouts he has "issues"
  10. QUOTE (BearSox @ Nov 15, 2008 -> 09:48 PM) Corky Miller is simply not that good. That.
  11. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Nov 14, 2008 -> 04:20 PM) Hillary's been offered the Job Ugh
  12. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 14, 2008 -> 12:45 PM) If he does, then that should be a no-brainer. I initially thought it was a no-brainer also, but is there actually a chance some team will sign him with less than a half year of AA experience and leave him in the majors all year?
  13. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 14, 2008 -> 12:37 PM) Not sure if this has been posted or mentioned yet, but Rosenthal wrote an article which sort of backs up what many here think about the trade, i.e., that it is a prelude to something else, this morning. Here is the link. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/8793068...3162&ATT=49 Someone wrote this as a comment at the end of the article
  14. I went on a cruise to the caribbean
  15. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Nov 14, 2008 -> 10:33 AM) wow. Fox really wanted to smear her then. I believe they were the first to report that Africa thing. When this first came out I believe I made some comment along the lines of I wouldnt be surprised if the GOP was trying to squash any chances of her running in 2012 already
  16. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081113/ap_en_tv/palin_hoax Palin never actually thought Africa was a country. It was a hoax. I knew she could not have possibly been that dumb
  17. Nice seeing Dr. Green back on ER last night
  18. so UCLA looked bad last night. Jrue Holliday only scored 5 points UConn's opener is tonight!!!
  19. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 05:02 PM) Maybe we can trade back for Wing. We seem to like dealing with OAK. Though if I recall, Wing might have actually asked for a change of scenery. He may have felt he had a quicker shot at the bigs with someone else. I think Wing may actually be a minor league free agent
  20. QUOTE (YASNY @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 09:46 AM) Stumm also, iirc. You can add Wing in there too. We've had an awful lot of bad luck when it comes to the health of our very promising (at the time) young pitchers. It has not been entirely poor drafting/scouting
  21. Obama has enough tact where he wont really play the blame game, IMO. But, it will probably come from the Ted Kennedy-types for 4-8 years
  22. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Nov 11, 2008 -> 02:54 PM) Not enough love for CC, IMO. Agreed
  23. QUOTE (Texsox @ Nov 11, 2008 -> 01:39 PM) Somewhere there is a guy thinking pouring this on his girlfriend would be hot, and really, really, weird, is somewhere there is a girlfriend thinking it would be fun. Leave it to you to go there
  24. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Nov 11, 2008 -> 12:32 PM) I see Russell and Contreras rounding out those top 5 nicely. Logan too. He is still so young (24!) and if he has options I would absolutely hang onto him and hope he can figure it out in Charlotte. He is a lefty who has shown he can have success. At his age, it would a dumb move to part ways. And I also think Contreras coming back in July/August in the pen could be one hell of a set-up man
