  1. Joe took the money, but didn't throw the Series. He admitted to taking the money, but always insisted he didn't throw the Series. But he still took the money, and he still knew about the fix. Joe got what was coming to him. Buck Weaver needs to be reinstated.
  2. I would love to have Maddux. But it isn't going to happen. I just think he is still a solid enough pitcher, and he is better than what we have in the bottom of our rotation. Plus, if he did throw a great season this year, tell me you wouldn't love watching a certain other Chicago team just squirm!!! But I think he would be a valuable addition all around. But, as said, it isn't going to happen. Not even worth thinking about more than we already have.
  3. It isn't just Chicago that is all things Cubs, it is pretty much all of Northern Illinois. You get away from the St. Louis area, and it is all Cubs. And that is fine with me. My favorite bands never hit Top 10, my favorite movies are never blockbuster faves. Why should my favorite team be any different? Ach, if we are going to get upset about the Cubs being the faves, we might choose to find a new team to like. Even if the Sox win the World Series, this will always be a Cubs town. Even when the Cubs are pathetic and the Sox are really good (which until the past year was the majority of the time), the Cubs still are the local faves. But one thing, the season has yet to start. We don't know how the Sox will come out playing. They might be very good. NOBODY on the Sox actually sucks. We have a team of solid players that fell apart last year. The picthing was there all season (except for Koch), it was our hitting that needed work. We still have most of the same bats, and if they prove to being what we had hoped they were, we will have a very good team. The Cubs look great on paper, but all it will take is a misstep, and they could be the letdown the Sox were last year. Lets not forget, the Sox were projected to take it all last year, and things just fell apart. It can happen again this year, but on the other side.
  4. http://english.pravda.ru/science/19/94/377...phenomenon.html I posted it in the "Bone Phone" area, but thought it also deserved it's own thread. How wild is that for a story??? It has been on the news, so this is NOT a joke.

Welp, you mentioned it, so here you go!!! http://english.pravda.ru/science/19/94/377...phenomenon.html And it is actually very much true.

WOW!!! About 10 years ago I worked for a guy who had one of these things! It was a radio though, and you wore it like a collar. I never saw it used, as he gave it away or something like that. But people who saw it said it was the craziest thing. You could be standing right next to him and not hear anything from teh radio, as the sound was traveling through his body. I thought that they were all BS'ing me, but I guess that it was the truth!
  7. I just keep getting the feeling that KW is a frustrated man who is losing his fire and care. I get the feeling he is hoping that Ozzie will not only light fires under the teams butts, but also his own. I get the feeling that ownership doesn't really know what it wants. We had a great base for the team going last year, all we really needed to do was secure a few of the players we had last year, get a few other names, show teh team that the idea was to win, and I think we would have come out of the corner swinging. As is now, I don't think the team will have the same fire we could have had. I just get the feeling that KW watched what he was building get sent away, and now his heart isn't where it should be.
  8. I have to say that I am not in a panic mode, but I am not optimistic at all. I think that even if we do win our crappy division, we still have a horrible uphill battle in the post. So as it stands, I am looking forward to the baseball season to start getting fired up, and to be done with hearing about football, although that never seems to happen in this dang city, get through the evils that are college basketball, and just kick back for opening day. Just bring me some baseball, and I will be happy. Make the Sox a better than expected team, and I will be even happier. Give them a glimmer of hope in the post, and I will be doing the "happy noodle boy" dance in the street!!!
  9. Jose also filled in for Maggs in RF for a handful of games also, I do seem to remember, or do I suck again? Can anybody PLEASE tell me what our reasons were for getting rid of Durham? It seems that once we let Ray go, 2nd became a problem position that has yet to be fixed. I know we are talking about SS mainly here, and that SS has been a problem since Ozzie left (how sad is that? now he's back to manage!), but with all of this Harris talk, I just would like to know why we left Ray go. I was confused then, even though Hawk praised him as a young Ray (I didn't know Ray was over the hill at the time), and I am even more confused now.
  10. I think the new place looks rather snazzy. I see some similarities, but not so many that I would feel at home. But none-the-less, if I was in St. Louis for some reason, I would love to go there and take in a game. It looks HUGE, and that concourse in the outfield looks REAL nice. Granted these are only drawings and it could suck as much as the only other NL park I have ever been to.
  11. This one REALLY hurts. I worshipped the guy when I was a kid. RIP Tugger.
  12. I do think we can win the division, but I also think my daughters T-Ball team from last year could win this division. My problem is I believe we will be dead in the water come post-season. But that has been the case for a few years. I was looking forward to getting excited about the offseason and all the killer moves the Sox were going to make. Instead no great moves are made, and all I have to look forward to is watching my fave team play ball, as every year. That's pretty good, but I am not expecting them to take the league by storm. Maybe this is a good thing. Last year we were all expecting to end up with a title. This year there are no expectations, so we won't be on anybodies "biggest letdown" lists. Love the team, disappointed so far by the offseason, and am holding out hope that we can still put together a cranking season. I'll be watcing from my couch, and from different seats in the parks, and listening from my car when needbe, but I will be there the whole stretch, as in every year. And if we lose 100 games this year, the following year you will find me in the same places.
  13. I have a feeling we have seen all that the Sox plan to do during these meetings. I have a feeling we have seen all that they plan to do all off-season. If there are any more moves, they will be nothing to get excited about. Just a bad feeling I get. I was looking forward to this offseason, but so far, I am not looking forward to the 2004 season. Well, I am as I love baseball, but I really am not expecting to see a killer Sox team stroll onto that field and kick some butt. But I am expecting to see some other team in the area do some serious damage, and of that I do not look forward to. At all.
  14. I heard on ESPN this morning that KW said this was not going to happen and he had no idea where these rumours were coming from.
  15. No, instead they sell the naming rights, thereby taking away the name of the man responsible for the LEAGUE that they are a member of.
  16. I'm guessing it had nothing to do with us. Nothing on the Bo Sox site about a press conference.
  17. Pedro MARTINEZ for Maggs? Is that what you are saying?
  18. I think many of us came here to escape the idiots (from all teams fanbases) on the MLB boards. I know I was shown the light one day by a fellow Sox fan through there. Wish I could remember who that fine soul was, I owe him my thanks!
  19. Sounds like a carjacking. This is really too bad. Not familiar with him, but it still is too bad.
  20. Nah, I'm from Harvard Il. A link to this was posted on another site I live at, one dedicated to beer.
  21. http://www.ohio.com/mld/beaconjournal/spor...rts/7169640.htm I have never heard about this! This is one of the most horrifying, yet hysterical, stories I have ever read! Does footage of this game exist anywhere, or does anybody know about it being available in any form, such as radio?
  22. Yeah, Andy has stated that he would love to stay in his area of Houston. NY Yanks will work to keep him though, I would think. They have to hold onto some aspect of that pitching staff, and with Pettite being the best they have, and NY loving the guy, I would think that should be one of Steinbrenners main goals. If he loses Torre and Clemens (which I think Torre is gone, and Clemens we know is gone), and he lets Andy go, then Yank fans might just storm the castle.
  23. Gee, neither Tom nor Kerry have that much anger built up Jeff, tired of living in their shadows? As for Frank, I always liked Frank and gave him the benefit of the doubt, but I have a feeling he isn't very good for the team. You keep hearing how all the problems in the clubhouse stem from Frank. He seems to be a bit much, like the other slugger from the other team across town.
  24. 12 million isn't enough for him, I say good riddance! We showed him we were going to go out further for him than anybody else, and KW said he was our main man. The team was willing to show him respect, and if being the highest paid pitcher on Sox history isn't enough respect for him, then I think we can look elsewhere. At that point he is all about himself, so eh, f*** him, we already have a Frank Thomas...for the time being. We have the three guys right now in Burhle, Loaiza, and Garland. Yeah, we need another strong arm out there, but no rush right now, and I am fine with letting him go. As is well documented, it wasn't our pitching that let us down this year, it was the hitting. I think we will be fine without Bart. I liked the guy, that is for sure, but with a team that has shown it is about winning, I was expecting a different outcome, especially when he has said he wanted to stay.
