  1. Totally agree he should still get reps, and he typically does (just lower in the order, like today). He's started in 53/60 games since he's been up, which includes starting more games against LHSP than not. He also came in off the bench in 6/7 games he didn't start, so only 1 true off day for him so far.
  2. Maikel Garcia just went to the IL, so Sox will dodge him next series. Witt Jr isn't on the IL but has missed the last few games including tonight with a knee issue.
  3. Brooke Fletcher filling in for Steve Stone tonight on the broadcast
  4. FYI the section you quoted means his "vs LH starter" split on Baseball Reference includes the games where he didn't start but came in later to face RHRP after the LHSP left. He kills RH relievers to the tune of a 1.092 OPS for the season (19-52 with 8 XBH). But in his actual ABs vs LH starters specifically, he's 4-20. Against lefty relievers, 3-21. Agree that he's a gamer regardless, but fine with him not leading off vs. LHSP for now.
  5. Would be a nice night for Burke/Newcomb to team up for another gem, considering the bullpen availability (and opposing starter).
  6. Love the fight in these guys
  7. I don't want Chapman primarily for clubhouse reasons, but he also threw the quickest yes hitter I think I've ever seen tonight. Came in with a 2-0 lead vs. the Rockies, gave up 4 straight hits (3 singles and a triple) for 3 ER to lose the game on 8 pitches without recording an out. Some BABIP luck for the Rockies after they ran themselves out of the previous inning where they also got 4 straight hits.
  8. Nice to have Tristan Peters casually leading the team in doubles (one might say the banana man splits the gaps?) with a 120 WRC+. With him at 2 WAR already, Sox are on pace for more 4+ WAR position players this season than in the previous 5 combined.
  9. Sox and Braves still the only remaining teams who haven't had a 4+ loss streak this season
  10. I do wonder if Teel catches tomorrow after not having back to back games behind the plate during his rehab? Could DH him to get some reps with the bat at least, but Beni has been a productive LH option there of late and Cleveland is throwing a LHP tomorrow so I assume they'd want Grichuk in. Guess it would be a good sign for his health if he is behind the plate again, but I'm not sure I'd be surprised if he isn't.
  11. They do a lot of matchup targeting as it is, but it can snowball when someone gets into unexpected trouble. Like if Grant Taylor has a cleaner inning tonight, the pockets fall differently for the rest of the game. Instead Hudson had to come in early for Manzardo with RISP in the 7th after Taylor gave up the lead. Since that's an extra up/down already, they can't use Hudson to face Bazzana leading off the 9th...who only gets another AB at all because Taylor faced 7 batters instead of the 3-4 they would have planned for. With Newcomb down, they don't have the depth for a surprise extra trip through the top of the order LHB. Cap tip to Murphy for at least limiting the damage to enable the walkoff in regulation, but they need to fill the hole in the rotation in addition to any BP moves they make.
  12. They don't ask how, they ask how many, and your first place Chicago White Sox have 40 wins in June. Cade Smith has allowed 2+ ER only twice this season: to the Dodgers all the way back in March, and to the home warrior White Sox tonight. Tonight was his first loss of the season. Cleveland also reshuffled their rotation for this matchup, so it's especially nice to get the W. The Sox were 4-11 with RISP today after going 1-14 in the entire Detroit series. Kay was very good and deserved a win. Still, they have won his last 7 starts at home. Like most of the team, he likes playing at the Rate. 25 home wins is tied for second most in MLB with the Brewers (LAD/TBR have 26). Sam joins the list of Sox to get their first career walkoff this season. All 3 rookie OFs were productive tonight, great to see.
  13. CLE kinda outsmarted themselves going to their closer in the 8th, his stuff ticked down in the 9th
  14. "Challenging the whole thing" lol
  15. Huddy has been so good. Just over 1 year of service time, so they can hang onto him for a while if they want.
  16. Good point, as immediately proven by the bad call in the next AB
  17. It was a strike, he would have been out even with a challenge
  18. Ant might have scored there if the ball didn't bounce right back to the plate
  19. Midseason stateside promotions are incredibly rare, and when they do happen it's usually someone in their second DSL season already. Visa processing makes it complicated, in addition to some tax rule I think?
  20. Grichuk leads the league in PH HRs with 3 Sox have hit 12.7% of all PH HRs in MLB this season
  21. Grichuk is just automatic lol, what a weapon off the bench
