Well, some Sox fans’ parameters are that Schriffen would be qualified to replace Benetti as the team’s play-by-play announcer. The fact that you admit he is “learning on the job” sort of proves the point that he wasn’t. Being a nice young man has nothing to do with being qualified for a job.

I’m pretty sure caulfield’s point was that it’s a privilege to be able to attend a college with a tuition of $90K+ a year these days. Not sure what the tuition was when Schriffen attended, but I’m sure it was still relatively expensive. Either he earned a great scholarship, his parents had some money, or he had some nasty college loans to pay back after college. I noticed in this article that Schriffen’s grandfather was the NAACP president of North Philadelphia, so it’s possible he had a nice connection as well.

Schriffen did in fact attend Dartmouth. Benetti attended S. I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University which I believe is still considered the best communications degree money can buy.

This is from Jason Benetti’s Wikipedia page: While I’m sure Benetti would rather not have to live his life with cerebral palsy, it sure hasn’t stopped him from being more successful than many people without a disability. Schriffen has no disabilities that I am aware of and he’s still a worse baseball announcer than Benetti.

To be fair, he did say “yearly 3+ WAR player”, although I think most people are hoping for a yearly 5+ WAR player.

I think the Sox would prefer to free up a position player spot on the roster rather than adding another similarly bloated outfielder contract for the next two years, just to save a few million. More like a trade for a similarly bloated starter/reliever contract like the Hicks trade. But I guess Jerry is still the owner, so I’m sure he’d love to save even up to $5 million if the Red Sox are sending up to $10 million back to the White Sox with Yoshida for Benintendi. But I’m not sure Benintendi is that much better than Yoshida for Boston to even want to make that trade.

I’m still not seeing how any team would be interested in Benintendi, even if the Sox were actually willing to pick up half of his remaining contract which would mean the acquiring team would owe him $15.5 million over two years. The Sox just signed a similar quality veteran outfielder in free agency for just $6 million for one year. Unless Benintendi has a big first half and/or 2026, I think the Sox are stuck with him until they are willing to outright cut him and pay out his deal.

It happens every year. ST stats don’t matter. A guy could be hot as hell in ST and then go completely cold once the season starts. Also, guys who can’t hit a lick in ST can start the season hot as hell. It’s like 50 at bats.

Huh?!? I wholeheartedly agree with your first paragraph, but WTF on your second? Colson will be a 3B soon, with Cholowsky taking over SS eventually, which aligns perfectly with your plan to trade Vargas. If Acuna is a bust, perhaps they can convert Carlson to CF assuming he hits in the minors for a couple years.

The crowed literally booed and had no idea who this bum was. They just introduced the guy for the first time and also effectively ended his WWE career at the same time. It was the worst crate reveal since The Gobbledy Gooker. Triple H should be fired. My guess is that his original plan was to have Jericho in the crate but he was duped by Tony Khan.
