You mean the same two guys that Getz acquired first? 😉
-
I’d love for that to happen and he gets dealt for a good return at the deadline. But does Getz have the balls to hold onto him that long and hope he doesn’t get injured. And is that even a wise play to make?
-
Could just be the case. It’s interesting though with guys like Canario and Pereira — they could just be who they appear to be, but it has to be tough to get into a groove when you only get sporadic at bats across a season in a game here or there every other day or play in only two to three games a week.

Hahn had a similar strategy though, didn’t he? Acquire aging former top prospects that hadn’t panned out on the cheap. I just checked Jordan Walker’s numbers and it looks like he struggled again. I thought he had started out hot last year with a swing change but I must be wrong. I wonder if the Sox would still be interested in him at this point. He’s still only 23.

Agreed. The Sox won’t spend money like the Padres and only potentially once Ishbia takes over in 2029 at the earliest. Meanwhile, Getz and his new FO have not shown that they are as successful at identifying talent like the Rays.

I’m all for it. Frees up some of the positional redundancy and avoids what I feel would probably be a waste of money on a guy like O’Hearn. Is it crazy to think that Sosa could put up a 2+ bWAR like O’Hearn if he’s at 1B instead of 2B and his defense isn’t holding him back as much?
-
Yeah, not sure the Sox have any other options there unless Zavala improves a lot more and quickly. Hell, claim/sign Canario, platoon him in RF with Tauchman, trade Robert before he gets injured, and start Pereira in CF. Or just force Benintendi into a DH role. If we are going to be bad, we may as well be younger and bad. 🤣 Obviously Robert is better than both guys but I damn sure don’t want to see him go down with an injury that he won’t return from until after the trade deadline.

The sad thing is that Getz just traded for an outfielder who is probably not any better and gave up a possible #5 starter and his last piece from the Cease trade. At least Canario would have been free last year via a waiver claim or cash considerations. Had he sucked with the Sox instead of the Mets and Pirates, it wouldn’t have been much is a loss. You had mentioned Canario’s poor strikeout rate as one of the marks against him so I am curious what you think of Pereira’s. Meanwhile, Canario has still out-bWAR’ed Pereira in their short careers thus far. Yet you said you liked the Pereira acquisition.

I think Sosa would be the ideal option to move to 1B in a perfect world. But even if his power grows to 30 HR, will he ever walk enough as well to be a good enough hitter to stick at 1B?
-
WestEddy already mentioned that Pereira is out of options. Do you think he isn’t making the team? There’s no way Getz is giving up on him in Spring Training. I seriously think he will the right-handed half of a RF platoon with Tauchman. Also, the Sox really don’t have that many offensive positions to fill since they are stuck with Benintendi and probably won’t be able to trade Robert until he shows he can stay healthy and hit. Getz will acquire a 1B, but I would be surprised if it ends up being someone even at the level of Ryan O’Hearn. I wouldn’t be surprised if even he is out of the Sox price range.

Angels trade OF Taylor Ward to BAL for RHP Grayson Rodriguez

Wouldn’t be surprised. This guy is softer than baby s%*# and very injury-prone. The starting pitcher equivalent of Eloy, Moncada, and Robert rolled into one. -
Mully and Haugh are still good. I just wish they were on later than the early morning slot. Harris and Rahimi have to be the worst sports talk on the radio and I can’t believe they can’t figure out a better duo.

This looks like a garbage trade but my guess is that the Orioles are just sick of Rodriguez’s injuries and probably think he can’t hold up at all. Our old friends at Orioles Hangout think it’s a horrible trade as well and are calling it the worst move of Elias’s tenure. -

Marshall Harris of WSCR 670 The Score is calling the DGN at BR game on WCIU Saturday. Not very good on the radio but he’s pretty good at calling these HS games.
