  1. It was just a stat padding double. If the Sox were down by 2 he probably would've stuck out.
  2. I've heard it use for fair weatherness with politicians going with the popular vote, but wiki doesn't have either. Who knows? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Origin_of_the...22Windy_City%22
  3. The devil put that there to trick us. Don't ask me to provide any scientific proof to support that.
  4. Yet he only led the league in ERA twice, placed 3rd, 4th and 5th once each time. That's over 25+ full seasons.
  5. Not too mention Thome looks finished with his .867 OPS like some posters have mentioned on this board.
  6. I doubt it. If you won't be back in this thread you will show up in another with the same strawman arguments. Why exactly is intolerance a bad thing? We don't allow people to roam the streets nude, but I don't see too many exhibitionists screaming "intolerance!!!" "Y'all just ignorant to not let me shove my thoughts or believes down your collective throats."
  7. What is your fascination with Endy Chavez? He has Jerry Owens' numbers. You didn't want him at the leadoff position do you? Is that really the best we can get for Dye?
  8. We can probably ge back some more Michael Dubee or Franklyn German type of players.
  9. Good to see Thome homer off another lefty, and in late innings too. He really took his time getting around the bsaes however. The sox site has a call from the Blue Jays broadcast and hawk is so loud you can hear him in the background.
  10. According to the papers, Floyd says he feels "great." I'd feel great too if I did a s***ty job at work but knew I had $16 million guaranteed to me regardless of my performance.
  11. Neither of them belong on the team. How's Jerry doing for the Mariners these days? You were one of his two fans so I'd figure you would know.
  12. Don't forget about Jenks' steak of perfectness. But his K/9!!!
  13. Beats starting a new thread after every start. It's fun to see stuff come full circle.
  14. You can also ground into a double play to reach your way onto first.
  15. Van Butscratch: 3IP, 6ER 6H, 1BB 5 K's 5.66 ERA on the season.

    Films Thread

Wow that was worse than Dirk Diggler's. Saw Star Trek last night, and I thought it was great. Lots of funny moments and great actions sequences. I never cared for the TV shows either. Saw First Contact in the theatre but I don't really remember it too well. Just watched The Fisher King for the first time and wasn't very moved by it. It was very cricially acclaimed (although it did get two thumbs down) but I just wasn't feeling it.
  17. Has anyone from the Sox brass ever come out and comment on getting punked by no name pitchers? This is ridiculous. The guy made 2 starts with an ERA of 6 and shuts us down completely. If a tree falls in the woods and no one is around, does it make a sound. Could Gavin Floyd pitch well against the Sox offense? That'll spin your wheels for a while.
  18. Adam Dunn = Not valuable. Yep. I'm wasting my time here. The point is Holliday still makes outs at a greater rate and has less power ALL of his career, from start to his prime, in hitting in places not in Colorado than a 38 year old Jim Thome. .270 single hitters aren't that valuable either. Just look at Neifi Perez, Alex Sanchez or Delmon Young.
  19. Jim Thome aging away is putting up better numbers this year than Holliday's career road numbers. Not sure how you missed that. There's no point in discussing the Sox signing him for less than $10 million a year. It's completely pointless with Boras as his agent and the fact that he was demanding HUGE money from the Rockies for an extension before they traded him. I highly doubt Holliday will be playing good outfield at the end of his nex t contract as he'll be near Thome's current age.
  20. Jim Thome currently has .352 OBP and .477 SLG for a .830 OPS and you want him ran out of town. So how is it Holliday's lesser numbers aren't "bad." Ultra :rolly
  21. But, but, the cell is Coors East!!! Let's spend $20 million a year on him! I think Holliday's dad was talking about how great it would be if he could play in Yankee stadium. As if Boras as the agent wasn't enough, you can toss out the "comes at the right price" crap right out the window.
  22. 1. A little early for trade winds or even the rumor mill? 2. Scott Boras 3. Look at how he is doing in Oakland, and before someone gives me some BS "Well the Cell is just like Coors Field," I must ask why pay premium dollars to a guy that you will KNOW will suck for 81 road games? Makes zero sense.
