I'm finaly going to get to a game!
QUOTE(DePloderer @ Mar 5, 2006 -> 12:51 PM) Thanks to all who have offered advice, I'll be printing it off to use nearer the time. I do however have a further question; it seems my lovely wife isn't all that keen on the 10 hour drive, so does anyone know if there are any train services between Chicago and the Bristol end of Virginia, failing that Washington DC? I'll post my request for swapping tickets in the Ticket Exchange. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Amtrak Captiol Limited D.C to Chicago.

When will Rex be removed as starting QB this time?

You should really do your best to get lower level seats. I always walk around the ballpark, and with upper deck you do not have that opportunity. Leave some room in your stomach for ballpark food.

Happy Unofficial St Pats U of I
I passed out around 2:30 PM and woke up with the flu (happened to me the last time I went back to visit U of I) around 10 PM. As I was on my way to pickup a Pizza, I heard a huge "bang" when someone threw an empty keg off the top balcony at Daniel Street Towers.

Favorite WS Game 2 Homer
QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Mar 1, 2006 -> 12:50 AM) I picked Konerko for all the reasons stated above. Funny story though... We have two televisions in reletively close vicinity in the house. One in the front room and one in the dining room. Thing is, when you're sitting at the dining room table, you can see the television in the front room. And the television in the dining room is an HDTV, and about 5-10 seconds behind the television in the front room (for reasons I'm not sure of). Anyways, I was sitting at the dining room table when Paulie was up and couldn't help myself from watching the TV in the front room, while everybody else was watching the TV that was well behind. And when Paulie hit the ball, I had a Brian Anderson-like "oh my god, oh my god" moment. Meanwhile, the rest of my family and friends are looking at me wondering what the hell is wrong with me. That is, until they eventually see what happens on the HDTV, and the whole house erupts into absolute euphoria! I'll never forget that moment. Not to diminish Scotty Pods walk off, but I can't think of a bigger, more exciting home run in our history. And maybe its just me, but the fact that it was Paulie that hit it just made it a little better. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That happened to me as well when we were at the bar. The projections screens were HD, but the commercial break was going on for so long, so I started looking around, and as soon as I saw one of the normal TV's I started jumping up and down running towards the projections screen.

Happy Fat Tuesday!
I'm going to do my best to avoid eating chocolate for the next 40 days.

Chicagoland Pizza
I can't help but notice how many of these places end up with "'s." I like Giordano's stuffed pizza, but it's too fattening. Hmm, today would've been a good day to order it.

Favorite WS Game 2 Homer
Paulie's Grand Slam caused everyone in the stadium to jump up and down, including the guys in our bullpen. If not for PK's grand slam, Pods would've never had a walkoff homer. To be honest, I really thought Pods might go deep because Lidge gave up a pretty deep out to Uribe.

Sox agree to terms with 16 players
QUOTE(iWiN4PreP @ Feb 28, 2006 -> 04:53 PM) I dont get this. What does this mean? they weren't all freeagents, right? I dont really understand what we did here. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Basically it's for the younger players who are not up for arbitration, and do not have enough service time for free agency. Younger players can get signed for the league minimum for 3 years, and then be up for arbitration for the next 3. Some teams try to save money by offering youger players multi year deals to essentially buy out their arbitration years.

Kenny Fires Back At Frank
QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Feb 26, 2006 -> 09:46 PM) Roberto Alomar and Miguel Olivo left on awful terms. Don't you remember Alomar pretty much calling KW a liar. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> HUH? IIRC, Alomar fired his agent after 2003 because he f***ed up a deal where the White Sox were going to re-sign him. Olivo was a crybaby.

Frank fires on the Sox - again
He says it's not about the money, then he whines about his previous contract not guaranteeing all the money. He says he's in the prime of his career and cites Bonds. Then he whines about players juicing. :rolly

What will the the order of the 3 QBs in Chicago?
QUOTE(crazyman26 @ Feb 25, 2006 -> 04:30 PM) I think they wanted him to be the #1 QB in 2004 but he got hurt and last year when he got hurt again he had lost his #1 job to Orton, but got lucky Orton played a really bad game and a half so was allowed to finish the year as starter. Did not impress that much in his playoff appearance doing so. He has pretty much had his chances to be starter and it is too late for him. Reading articles I can see what the coaches and GMs are hinting at, they are talking about Orton gaining more experience, and searching around for a free agent QB and draft pick QB to bolster competition. The writing is on the wall for Rex IMO. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> .............and you say this despite the fact that Lovie Smith said "Rex Grossman is the #1 quarterback. Stop asking me." :rolly Get a clue.

Dayn Perry Chat next Monday
Dayn, you said it would be better for the White Sox to trade Podsednik instead of Rowand to the Phillies for Jim Thome. Why would Philly want want Scott if he sucks so much, and who would become the leadoff hitter for the White Sox if they traded away Podsednik?

Be aware of m-Qube
QUOTE(Steff @ Feb 23, 2006 -> 11:39 PM) Call the phone company and tell them what happened. You should be able to get a bill mid cycle and check if they are somehow charging you. You should also have the ability to block them (I have this option on my Trio with Cingular service). Doesn't help if they call from different #'s every time, but hopefully after you block them a few times they will stop calling. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well I called the phone help line, and they said they can't block the specific number, (US Cellular) and to register with the do not call list. They also made the suggestion of assigning the number a ringtone, and if they still bug me to change my number. I guess I'll figure out the damage, if any, in another week or so.

Be aware of m-Qube
I did something stupid a few weeks ago. My mom and I were listening to the Score on a Saturday morning, and this one guy kept plugging his 800 number for free picks. My mom was complaining about how obnoxious he was, and I figured he was just going to give out different results to the same game so I wanted to bust the guy. The first 800 number I called was a message plugging his 900 number that cost $15 where you got 3 picks. It said to get connected to that 900 numbers press any number (or key?) so I hung up. Then I called a different numbers and got a live operator asking me about getting free picks. I was expecting a message, so I just played it off like I dialed the wrong number. About an hour later this 702 area code number calls me asking me about betting on basketball, and I told him I'm not invovled with that crap and I dialed the wrong number. Since then they have called me from a couple of different numbers (I assigned it to an ignore contact with a seperate ringer) left me a voicemail once, and got me to pick up another time because it came up as "restricted" on my phone. I'm afraid I'm getting billed from these assholes, but I'm really not in the mood to change my phone number. Any advice?

Intelligent design dead?

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Feb 20, 2006 -> 10:49 PM) Where in this discussion did anyone ever say that the bible, history, and Jesus were all made up and lies? What modern day miracles do you refer to? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I want to know what the f*** the Bible, Jesus, and modern day miracles have to do with science classes in a public school. Must be "southern" science.

Intelligent design dead?
Minors, just what happens in the states you mentioned when an atheist demands for their school to teach the theory that space aliens created the Earth (yes there are really people like that) or a Muslim student wants the theory that Allah created everything great in the universe? Would you want your schools teaching that material in a science class because that's what's some people decided to believe in? Didn't think so. Juggs used to say the exact same thing when he was in this situation.

Intelligent design dead?
QUOTE(minors @ Feb 20, 2006 -> 10:19 PM) Well they are also in Mississippi, Alabama, South Carolina and Georgia and no it not embarrassing. Evolution is not well thought of around here. I don't see what the problem is letting the kids decide what is true and what isn't. By not putting a disclaimer on the book that makes it sound like evolution is a proven fact which it is not. I am not saying we need to teach ID or creation but at least let the kids have a choice. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I can't imagine it's related to the Bible. I'm guessing you don't have a strong scientific background unlike Flasoxxjim and myself. The scientific theory of evolution is called that because it follows the scientific model. You know, hypothesis, test, re-test, make conclusions and recommendations, re-test. Evolution fits this model, so it is taught in a science class. Where would you want something like this tested? In a gym class? ID is not scientific based, and it is more "well some of evolution doesn't make sense to me, and we should let our kids decide what they want to believe." I suppose if I wanted 2+3=7 taught in a math class because that's what I decided to believe in I should go to my local school board and demand for them to put a disclaimer on all Math books? I'll ask the $64,000 question; just why would people decide not to believe in the theory of evolution? Could it be because of their religious faith?
