ST Poll Question: Should Brian Anderson be sent to Charlotte?
Chisoxfn replied to greasywheels121's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Anderson wasn't ready as a hitter. Anyone that saw him up late last year and for a large part of spring new that. His mental set at the plate isn't condusive to a good AB. However, I think he will be able to learn and improve his mental approach at the major league level. At this point I have no problem keeping him up because I think the best way to learn that mental part would be at the major league level. Unless of course Walker can give him a few tips and send him down so he can relax and work on them (I'd like Walker to be on the phone with him trying to help out and give pointers even when he's in Charlotte). Than after those adjustments are made and he gets comfortable in AAA bring him back up. His defense is too good not to have, especially since with Mack as our starting CF, we will need a defensive replacement. However, if Ozzie doesn't plan on playing Brian (just like we fail to use Brandon) they both should be in AAA getting in a groove. -
Going to go see it tomorrow afternoon, so I won't read this thread till than (just in case).

5/26 Game Thread: Sox @ Blue Jays
Chisoxfn replied to Gregory Pratt's topic in 2006 Season in Review
We got robbed. Hill never tagged Dye with the ball. This was like Escobar tagging AJ with the glove (no ball in it). Too bad no one saw it and argued. -

QUOTE(danman31 @ May 26, 2006 -> 12:59 AM) Where's the BMac comparison? His strikeout numbers are way lower and walk numbers way higher. I think Russell is a solid pitcher, but he needs to start going deeper into games before I will consider him a solid prospect. Don't have my notes in front of me, but Russel has a pretty good FB right?

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 26, 2006 -> 12:40 AM) Sierra finally had a damn good outing tonight. 2IP, 1H and 6K's. ERA is at 5.40 now from 8.1IP for the Barons. Maybe he's finally turned the corner. We know he has the "stuff"

QUOTE(SnB @ May 25, 2006 -> 10:24 PM) Jas is offically old now. Are you watching everybody loves raymond yet? Nah, its on best my bed time and the reruns coincide with my early bird dinner special.

Harrel is incredibly under-rated. I remember a few scouts mentioning he was one of the top sleepers when we nabbed him in the draft.

Gracias fellas....its insanely weird right now. I can not wait to sleep in and than play speed golf on Sunday with some buddies (instead of walking). Than Vegas on Thursday

Just finished up my last final...now I wait for my buddies to go out and to celebrate. It really hasn't sunk in, but its going to be really damn nice getting to sleep in tomorrow. After all this school, I'm sure I'll be in for a shock when I start my career in September.

This list is freaking terrible. Also, Heads, look 1 play ahead of that one..thats right IOWA over LSU

QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ May 25, 2006 -> 05:01 PM) Her father is Charles Widmore of Widmore Construction. He is a mjor investor in the Hanso Corporation and his company built the Darma stations plus other things throught the season. http://lostpedia.com/wiki/Widmore Ahh..it all makes more sense. That was the 2 minute part (when he was talking to Desmond) that I was in the other room printing something out for school. Thats actually an awesome tie in and I bet she knows something about the project and for all we know a rescue team may show up on the island; of course I don't see them getting off anytime soon (I think this goes on for a few more seasons) but they got me hooked.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ May 25, 2006 -> 09:07 AM) So... is it worth it to go rent these? I have (finally) started catching up on 24. I love that show, too. ITS infinitely greater than 24 and I'm a big fan of 24. In fact, for those of you that want, I think all of the 2nd season is currently available to download (for free) on abc.com QUOTE(Soxbadger @ May 25, 2006 -> 11:36 AM) The guy in the hatch, who rescued Desmond was the same guy who gave Sayid the box of tools to torture the Iraqi officer so that the US Army could find the pilot who had crashed. Lost is the best show on tv, and if you are interested you can download the episodes from season 2 for free, but the commercials are embedded I believe. As to the episode, finally some one looked at those computer print outs. I have been complaining about that since the time that they went into the Pearl. Prior to that episode Locke wanted to know if Henry Gale had typed the right number in, yet he never went through the print sheets to find out. The last episode had some interesting thoughts: 1) It is clear that the magnetism f***s up compasses. This is reinforced when Henry Gale tells Michael exactly what path to follow. It also makes Desmond's "I went straight (east or west cant remember)" and returning back to the island make sense. Since the compass will be effected it is useless as a navigational tool. 2) The statute and the rock formations. Maybe its just me, but when I saw that statute I thought "Clossus of Rhodes" and then when I saw the rocks I thought "Stonehenge". This led me to start wondering if this island in some way is supposed to represent the lost city of Atlantis. The four toes was interesting, but I think Cyclops in greek myth have the 4 toes. 3) Every time a character dies, the plot reveals something that if they had been alive would have blown the mysteries wide open. Libby dies right before Desmond comes back in her ship. If she was alive, it would have set off a huge domino affect of people starting to see connections. The second is Anna Lucia, who it turns out knew Jacks father and brought Jacks father to the bar where he met Sawyer. Since Anna is dead, she cant have that conversation with Sawyer where they begin to realize that something besides chance is at work here. I definitely thought the finally was satisfying. If they gave all the answers what would be in store for season 3. As of now I think Michael and Walt will turn their backs on freedom, return to the camp and next season will be about trying to get Sawyer, Jack, and Kate back. The whole story line about Walt being special has not at all been fleshed out, which makes me believe that he may be back. I think Jack had a plan that they would be captured (my guess is there is something we don't know) because they all looked at each other as if to signal something and that Michael will take the boat to the other side and more stuff will happen. I was curious as to how the f*** the mangetic station was able to call Desmond's old girlfriend (how did she know to look for magnetism???). Lots of stuff left to be answered, but a lot of new stuff came up as well. Just an oustanding finale and I can't wait for the next season. I do wonder if we will ever know everything (even when the series eventually ends) cause I could see a lot of people saying how stupid it is when its all over (kind of like the matrix).

QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ May 25, 2006 -> 07:49 AM) In 2/3 of an inning he managed to give up 3 runs, make 2 errors, Give up 1 hit, walk one batter and hit another batter. His ERA stands at 27.00. Sadly, I am not making this up Charlotte ended up losing 8-7. Fields went 2/5 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI Rogo went 3/5, 2 RBI Redding gave up 4 runs, 10 hits in 5 innings, but had 9 K's. linky At least he's consistent

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 25, 2006 -> 07:43 AM) Anyone else watch this show??? The finale was incredible and finally started to give more backround info on the last two seasons along with lots of the side characters. I can't wait until the next season, I am so addicted to this show. I stopped studying for finals to watch the seaon finale. It once again showed why it is hands down the best show on TV. The past few episodes had been amazing and just when I thought it couldn't get any better, the season finale appeared and WOW is all I can say. I never saw the first few episodes of Lost, but I'm glad I got in after watching one of those recap shows during the 1st season. Its an awesome show (Way better than Soprano's).

Scary stuff Dan. Hope everything works out well with your mom's procedure.

If the Cubs stay as bad as I think they will be this year, I would not be shocked if the Sox ended up being very close to outdrawing the Cubs. In the end I don't think we'd out draw them (until we add in the post-season games). However, another piss poor season by the Cubs mixed in with a strong season by the Sox (and the Sox have to do this if they want to compete for the market) and you will see a major influx and a really frustrated Cubs base with the Sox outdrawing the Cubs the following year (potentially).

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ May 24, 2006 -> 03:35 PM) That's why I don't like this trade for Arizona. They're in first right now, and have a great chance to contend in that NLW. I don't know if Julio will prove to be more valuable than Duque. Ask about that in a month when Julio is not on the disabled list and Hernandez is out for the year.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ May 24, 2006 -> 05:01 AM) I disagree with this. Corey Patterson has amazing makeup speed which allows him to correct fielding mistakes he is making as he is making them. He rarely gets good jumps on balls, and when they are hit straight at him he freezes a lot. Brian Anderson is much better defensively right now(as far as I have seen) then Patterson has ever been in his career. THat isnt to say that Patterson can become a better player, because the guy has all the tools(as reported extensively by the Cubs), but right now I think BA is the superior fielder. Offensively, hands down Patterson is better. That is a very good assessment of Patterson's defense. Patterson is a below avg defensive cf. He has insane range and a strong arm for a CF, but he gets horrid jumps and has trouble making good catches on the run. I'm not saying he doesn't have the talent to be a very good CF, but he hasn't exactly made strides defensively since reaching the majors. BA is head and shoulders one of the premier defensive centerfielders in just his rookie season. If he could hit .250 (and I think in time, with patience he'll turn into a .270ish hitter a year or two down the road) he will be very very important. His upside is TORRI HUNTER (mediocre offense with some pop and good speed, exceptional defense).

A while back we upgraded the site to the latest version of invision and we told you we had one final step left to do. That was done over the past 15 minutes and we should be able to get the search feature back online in the next week (if all goes well) by implementing an indexing feature (no down time for this). The site is now running on a very up to date server, using up to date versions of MYSQL, PHP, and Invision.

We are going to be implementing a new banner format. Deploder is the man that came up with the idea and he's putting in all the hard work, but a new banner will be up for each day's matchup with the opposing pitchers. Hopefully you all like this and it will be a real easy reminder for you guys on whose pitching So 3 cheers for Deploder

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ May 23, 2006 -> 10:22 PM) I put in the winner thread, and I said he needs to sit tomorrow. We won the series, put Gload or Mack at DH, give Jimbo the day off. No need to screw around with him. Put Mack at DH and let Anderson roam CF.

Hot Or Not: May 24th By Tyler James Tyler James is back after a week layoff, ready to deliver the Sox hot or not list. After struggling two weeks ago, the Sox managed to recover from a rough series against the Devil Rays, by taking 2 of 3 from the lowly Cubs. Despite a mediocre record (by Sox standards) the pitching staff and team made great strides from 2 weeks ago's losing week. HITTER OF THE WEEK- A.J. PIERZYNSKI After layin’ the smack down on not only Michael Barrett but opposing pitchers last week, A.J. earns the honors. Now providing as much power as Dye and Konerko, A.J. hit for a high average and as always was in the middle of more controversy. Stats for Week- .412 AVG/ .500 OBP/ 7 H/ 2 2B/ 5 R/ 1 HR/ 3 BB/ 1 TKO PITCHER OF THE WEEK- FREDDY GARCIA Freddy Garcia pitched brilliantly in both of his games this week. It seems that whenever a pitcher pitches twice in a week, they step up and raise their game. Freddy shut down the both the Cubs and Twins. Freddy hasn’t thrown with his old velocity, but his movement still is tricky and baffles hitters. PITCHING PERFORMANCE- MARK BUEHRLE Mark Buehrle shut the mouths of all Cubs fans in his complete game on Friday. Buehrle was nearly unhittable and only allowed two hits. Buehrle returned to his form after the horrible 1st inning against the Twins last Sunday. SUB OF THE WEEK- ROB MACKOWIAK Rob got a full week of play in this week and stepped up big time. In Monday’s game he hit the game tying pinch-hit homerun in the bottom of the eighth inning off of A’s closer Huston Street. Known as a Cub-killer with the Pirates, he again hit the Cubs well. He is a good fill in while Anderson continues to struggle. NOT HE GONE- BOONE LOGAN Finally!!! I have been awaiting this moment for quite some time now. As most of you know, or should know, Logan was sent down for Agustin Montero and now Jeff Nelson. Logan pitched very inconsistently. He would sometimes look untouchable and then next thing and then he would start walking people and getting hit all over the ballpark. He showed some potential and is a very raw pitcher. Some time in Triple A will serve him well. GRAB SOME BENCH??-JUAN URIBE Uribe had another cold week hitting under the Mendoza line. Uribe is one of those players, who when he is off, he is off terribly. He looks terrible at the plate and reverts back to the wild swinger he was in Colorado. Look for Cintron to step in, as he has proved himself as a viable option at shortstop. HITLESS WONDER- BRIAN ANDERSON Although he did not play the full slate of games, Anderson was held hitless. I love the kid’s enthusiasm, but he just can’t hit. Hopefully he can turn it around by the All-Star Break. If not, a call-up for Sweeney could be in the future. Maybe the brawl and putting Mabry in the hospital will in someway improve his approach at the plate.

I love AJ, but you can almost never go wrong with a classic like Ventura. Of course I'm a huge AJ fan and that would be a pretty sweet jersey too.
