QUOTE(3 BeWareTheNewSox 5 @ Jan 13, 2006 -> 07:24 PM) I heard that and it was so lame. It's a stupid analogy too. You can see the newspaper for free online. It's in a different format/perspective than in print, as is going to a hockey game in person compared to on TV. Plus teams get paid by the TV station for the rights to the games and people pay for Comcast Chicago so therefor they are paying to see the Hawks game in a sense. Wirtz is freaking trash.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 13, 2006 -> 07:41 PM) I've been told Stephen A Smith said the T-Wolves have offered Wally and Hassell for Francis. If so, the Magic should probably go ahead and make that deal. Then they can package Cato and Hedo for a better big. Wow, I'd do that deal if I were the Magic. Francis is a heck of a talent but Wally is having a strong season and both Hassel and Wally are at least playing hard (well this year).

I've long said if you look at Kenny, he appears to do a good job of picking and choosing which prospects he deals and which he keeps. Sure, over the time, considering the prospects he gives up (a lot of them) he's going to give up a few that bite ya in the butt. The key is to not do that for the most part and to make sure you end up getting what you need in those deals to help your major league squad. So far I think he's done that and than some.

Amare Stoudamire said he will not be back in February. Instead he thinks he'll be back in March.
-
Stephen A Smith says that Paul Pierce isn't getting moved. Said Danny Ainge told him that. Just take it for what its worth.
-
They had a strong 1st period and during the period had a great power play kill where Sharp and Calder played tremendous (they ended up scoring a few seconds after the power play ended). Strong period for the Hawks. They looked to play with more hustle than I've seen the few times I've watched them this year.

Looking good Alex

QUOTE(DePloderer @ Jan 13, 2006 -> 09:30 AM) How about these? If you do want a logo that can be used, give me some idea of exact dimensions, resolution and file format and I'll have a go. I love this stuff. I'd like a smaller version of some of these (once we kind of come up with one or two to use) and than make sure they appear in all our banners and on very page of the site.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 13, 2006 -> 01:36 PM) I do really like the ones that have the ST logo in them somewhere. That way we could use the ST even without the full logo and it would still look very nice. These are freaking awesome. Kind of brands the ST thing in people's minds. Now all we need is a fancy slogan to boot. You will definately see these implimented in our new banners and other stuff.

QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Jan 13, 2006 -> 09:19 AM) Hate to change the subject, but Carmen and Silvy were just talking about some reporter (missed the name) that was on Cold Pizza that said the Bulls and Celtics are in serious talks about a trade that could include the following... Bulls get: Paul Pierce Celtics get: Ben Gordon, Tim Thomas OR Bulls get: Paul Pierce, Ricky Davis Celtics get: Ben Gordon, Tim Thomas, #1 pick (from Knicks) Personally, I don't see any of these scenarios happening. Not sure why the Celtics would want anything to do with Tim Thomas, and even Pierce for Gordon straight up would be an absolute steal for the Bulls (not a big Gordon fan). Carmen and Silvy talked about this for a good 10 minutes, and I still missed on who exactly reported it. Still, if this is legit, where do I sign? Oh man, if we could get Paul Pierce, I'd be so damn happy. It gives the Bulls a really good SG. He's better than Peja and the Bulls could focus on finding a big in the off-season. Not sure I'd even want Ricky Davis (although I think he's a good player), probably would rather have the pick, unless I could spin Davis for a quality big. That said, the top article on chicagosports.com said Paxson full blown denied the deal and any talks. I don't know where this comes from, but any deal with those players where we get Paul Pierce is a winner in my book. Hinrich goes back to being the point and the Bulls backcourt is quite good (with Duh coming off the bench) and Pargo turning into a solid scorer off the bench.

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Jan 12, 2006 -> 03:31 PM) No Zook was not a choice, I believe that he was really the only option that Illinois had. There program was going no where, they are in a terrible recruiting spot, and most of the home grown talent already looks at Michigan, ND, OSU as better places to play. Illinois just did not have much on the table to go out and get a stud coach with. That being said, I think that Illinois could have taken a look at a guy who is in a Mid Major, or small conference and wooed him with the chance of being in a big conference. Zook just does not do much for me as more than a place holder. Still Zook is not getting awesome players, hes getting good players. And his coaching is not that much of an improvement over Turner. His recruiting however is. (Edit) Would you rather have Self, the recruiter, or Weber, the coach? Or lets talk Big 10 football. Ferentz, whom hasn't had great recruiting classes to work with or some guy like Zook who does a good job recruiting. I know one thing, Ferentz gets his guys and makes em better. He hasn't had much of a recruiting class, but I'm hoping his statement where he once again turned down the pro's will help get a couple more good recruits in. IIRC they had a good recruiting class last year (especially by Iowa's standards). Oh and I'd take Ferenzt (a hell of a coach, maybe not the greatest recruiter) over just a recruiter any day of the week.

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jan 13, 2006 -> 10:57 AM) the drive to Tucson is a bit of a drag, but I stay in the Phoenix area every year. Also allows you to see some of the Sox road games since most of the teams are in the Phoenix area. Bring your sticks if you golf. Great food at TEP. Usually Sox tickets are easy to come by, but something tells me this year will be different. Thats what I do. I prefer the Phoenix area to the Tuscon area. Usually I try to catch 1 game at TEP and than 2 games while they are playing down in the Phoenix area on the road.

QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jan 12, 2006 -> 03:05 PM) Does anyone know if it will be released for the PC, too? No...just PS2 and Xbox (well maybe the cube too).
-
Well after selling both my systems for pretty good money on ebay about 3 weeks to a month ago. I decided to go out and pick up a used version of xbox so I can play this game and hold off to buy the ps3 in June or July. Was able to find a used one for 99 bucks and figure I can sell it eventually for 60 or 70 bucks. I'm so pumped for this game. Plus its only 29 bucks.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 12, 2006 -> 02:58 PM) After losing the site repeatedly during the playoffs last year...if we can fix it, I'd be in favor of it. Is there any way to move some of the long-running threads and keep them active? Like the General thread's in AJ's bar? The best thing I could do is copy the posts manually and paste them in somehow. There are ways to do it, but the problem is the databases are all out of whack due to an original format change when we switched from XMB board software to Invision way back when. But I can defiantely come up with some sort of way to keep the long posts and just transfer over the text of them. Smilies and all those things will work the same and my goal is for the new site to have a little more Sox colors and maybe make it baseball unique (in terms of having some custom graphics on the site).

As I think everyone knows, we've had some issues in terms with the server/database when it comes to people wanting to search and all that sort of stuff. Unfortunately it appears as if the problems stem from prior upgrades and software changes and most of these bugs are a result of what is a bad database (in terms of creating errors and causing mysql to hang). The server we are on is huge and can handle pretty much anything. The problem is we aren't using an optimal database and from what I understand it would be damn near impossible to rebuild the current database we have properly (so we can streamline it). Essentially, we have two options and I want to ask the members what they prefer: Option 1: Option 1 is to keep the board as is. The problem is as we get larger we may continue to see things bog down a little more and who knows, maybe more features will start to stall (unlikely, but possible). This is an easy option because it would allow for all the posts to stay on the main forum Option 2: This option would in general be a pain for members (well at 1st). We would essentially create a brand new main Soxtalk board. All the forums would be the same, but people would need to re-register (we'll make sure people can get there old user names) and we'll update people's post totals (to ensure those are accurate). The only difference is the board would be fresh and wouldn't have any of the old posts. The plan of option 2 would be to have a link on the top of the site (called archive) which would take you to the old forum that has all the posts (if people want to look back at stuff). The benefits of this would be better in the long run as we would be ensuring that the database is optimized. It should allow for more users to be on at once and will once again allow posters to search and use all the other functions of the board. I realize this would be a hassle (and what I would do is send an email out to all registered members telling them to check out the new page and re-register). However, personally speaking I think the after a few weeks the board would be back to running like new (with tons of posts) and best of all it will be optimized for the continued growth of the site. Anyway, I don't want to make any changes without passing it onto the members, so please tell me what everyone would prefer. Obviously I like the idea of #2, because the board will work best and people will still be able to access all the posts to look back on things if they want to.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 12, 2006 -> 10:11 AM) It wouldn't be a bad deal for the Pacers either IMO...if they're actually trying to Move Artest, getting a guy like Magette is about as good as they're going to get. With Livingston, Mobely, and Cassel all in their backcourt, they were having trouble finding good ways to use Corey in their rotation earlier this season. Trouble of course is that it seems he's going to be out until probably mid-Feb. with that foot injury. Maggette is a good player and it makes some sense, but it still won't give the Pacers immediate help (although once he's back he'll help them). I think if the Clips made that deal, they instantly become my sleeper to win it all (if artest can stay under control). I don't think the Clips are dangerous now (to win it all) but give them Artest's defensive prowess and ability and I'd be worried about them.

I was so worried he was going to take an NFL job this year. Really glad to have him back in Iowa City. -
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 12, 2006 -> 07:10 AM) Wait so is Bush staying, or is the gag thing true???? The La Daily News has reported he's already signed an agent so if thats true he's going pro. He's making the announcement around 1:00 today though.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 12, 2006 -> 01:56 AM) Al Harrington is saying tonight that the Pacers are going to trade Ron Artest for Corey Maggette. I'd love to get in on the deal and offer Francis to the Pacers for Tinsley and Wilcox or Granger. We need young pieces, because we're going nowhere at the moment. Build around Jameer Nelson (who's been great so far this season) and Dwight Howard. How would Harrington know? That would be a really good deal for the Clips, plus Brand and Artest were good friends IIRC. The Clips could use his toughness.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 11, 2006 -> 03:00 PM) I think right now the A's have to be viewed as the prohibitive favorite out there...they've improved their offense (Albiet in a risky fashion) by adding Bradley, their young guys who made a run at the division last year are a year older, and some people have had time to recover from injuries. That could change rapidly though, depending on whether or not Beane holds onto Zito and whether or not Crosby can stay healthy. I honestly put Texas a close 2nd right now, because Thanks to Texas's offense, they only needed to add a little bit of pitching to stand a real good chance, and they've added a little bit of pitching. May not be enough, but they didn't need all that much anyway. Seattle might have an outside shot, but they need the Adrian Beltre from 2 years ago to kill the Beltre from last year, among other things. The Angels should still be better than them. Exactly
