I still think he's going to have to move to 3rd base, which is going to make it that much more difficult considering Adrian Beltre is gonna be in his way. In fact, there is little chance that he'll play much short in the majors unless its as utility guy. But he won't be a major league starting shortstop.
  2. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Feb 5, 2005 -> 03:51 PM) The point still stands that everyone here seems to be so confident in Podsednik, and he's had about one good season... And is a career .260 minor league hitter. I still say if you look at his development in the minors he was improving so thats something that has to be noted. He also has great speed and that can mean that a hitter can carry a similar average at the major league level, especially since he should learn more to make contact as he plays long and with his type of speed that only leads to more hits. I'm not saying he'll hit .300, but slap hitters with his type of speed can be quite sucessful and they don't necessarily need many, if any other tools. Of course thats easier said then done, but I do expect a .270 average out of Spod and think he could maybe hit in the .280 range. Plus his road splits, average wise, weren't all that bad this past year. Obviously he has strides to make, but couldn't you also give the case of him suffering from the sophmore slump. He's not an amazing leadoff hitter, but he's not as bad as some of you all make him out to be.
  3. QUOTE(3E8 @ Feb 5, 2005 -> 03:44 PM) I wouldn't buy it for $80. Wait until the last weeks of the season, when you get it for something ike $15. It then allows you to watch all postseason play, as well as all MLB games from the 2005 and 2004 seasons whenever you want. Isn't all of postseason play televised anyway? On a sidenote, I'm with boz, extra innings is way badass and way worth it. At least for you out of towners and every cable network offers it or should.

    Freaking Hillarious.
  5. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Feb 3, 2005 -> 04:12 PM) frankly Durbin doesnt impress me much in the twins minors. i dont rank him too high. I agree with you on that.
  6. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Feb 3, 2005 -> 02:50 PM) I don't know exactly -- I bought in with a family freind who was gonna drop his seasons. He says they are "great seats" , second row, behind home plate, UD. I don't have any in my possession, and prolly won't even go to a game until May. You'll like em cheat. Thats where my families seats are in Anaheim and while the Cell may be a little steeper or so I really think there are some of the better seats in the house. Great way to see the entire game.
  7. QUOTE(Steff @ Feb 3, 2005 -> 09:01 AM) A couple at least, IIRC. Were they really just talking about it this morning..? Was that the first time they did..? A bit OT.. anyone hear them last night talking about the Sosa trade and playing clips from the PC. They were ripping him pretty good. I think Carmen was "interviewing" for an open broadcasting job... So is DJ potentially gone?
  8. I dunno, but I think its kind of an oxymoron to have Timo Perez and defensive minded CF anywhere near him. The guy is pathetic defensively. He has one thing going for them and thats a plus arm because his range is lousy (even for a RF) and down right Everettesque in CF. Unless he was extremely slowed by this supposed injury last season (the one the Sox have talked about at times) then I don't think Timo fits the profile for the dbacks, but if they want to give the Sox something for Timo...then make the deal

QUOTE(TLAK @ Feb 3, 2005 -> 05:19 AM) Wow! I've never seen you so down on a guy, he must have really stunk it up. Could the infamous dry air in Arizona have done him in? Another junker, Shingo Takatsu, looked pretty bad there too. Trust me, I haven't seen a worse performance minus Paniago flicking up the fans or the umpire (I forget what exactly he did). In Takatsu's case, I remember seeing him pitch and made mention that his changeup was unbelievable. The only thing was when I saw him down in Arizona his control was mega off. In Campos case, it was all awful and I'm not usually an overly harsh guy cause I think anyone that makes it to this stage has some positives, the big question is whether they can mix there pitches and throws strikes (not just strike strikes, but actually hit the targets).
  10. How much did the Dodgers have to pay to get the rights to negotiate with him?
  11. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Feb 3, 2005 -> 02:08 PM) I REAAAAAALLLLLLLLLY doubt thats true. I agree with ya Nuke. Personally the local news stations are garbage when it comes to news.
  12. QUOTE(AssHatSoxFan @ Feb 2, 2005 -> 06:48 PM) i want to persnally thank ron turner for allowing all the great recruits from the state of Illinois to go Iowa once again As an Iowa fan...I must say Thank You And cheat damn good read.
  13. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Feb 2, 2005 -> 09:23 AM) Skip the first Illini game. Then go buy tickets from other teams' fans who get eliminated. Since most of them probly bought tickets to all sessions, once their team is gone, they'll be looking to sell immediately. You should be able to find tickets for a decent price by doing this. And what happens when the Illini go out in the first round...to the Hawkeyes It may not of happened the first time, but they will fall

  15. Had I seen it earlier I would of. Thought it was a good speach though. OMG, laughed my ass off when I saw Sharpton on FoxNews afterwords. God the guy is a retard.
  16. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Feb 2, 2005 -> 08:32 PM) Just saw on the news, it will be a 5,000 square foot, two-story house. What I want to know is how in the hell they will be able to afford the freakin utility bills and keep that big of a place clean? Minor details Rex, either way that place should be pretty darn badass.
  17. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Feb 2, 2005 -> 05:23 PM) speaking of porn did anyone see Lord of the G-String last week i mean uhhh yeah I've seen like 5 minutes of that. I think it should go up for an academy award. Absolutely hillarious though.
  18. QUOTE(JimH @ Feb 2, 2005 -> 05:15 PM) I did a double take, I thought someone had a question about Crosby, Stills, and Nash, no old jokes please, thank you. quickman is partial to the Buffalo Springfield ... even older. On topic, I heard Comcast Sports Net is due to be on all the dishes no later than 4/1. Come on there old man. You should obviously realize the only CSN that matters was CSNY :finger
  19. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Feb 2, 2005 -> 07:07 PM) Good news to everyone reading this board -- Officially under two weeks until pitchers and catcher report... Best news I've heard in a while

QUOTE(sec159row2 @ Feb 2, 2005 -> 09:15 AM) anyone know anything about this guy??? francisco campos http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/news/mlb...s_mlb&fext=.jsp pretty good game for mexico in the caribian series He pitched last spring. I saw him pitch a game and he was nothing but god awful. I would never ever want to see the guy pitch another game with the Sox. Prior to that performance I saw Ozzie had said some good things about him but he was done after the outing I was out. Horrible fastball and throws absolutely nothing but junk. When I say horrible I don't refer to the velocity, but more the lack of movement mixed with terrible velocity and well everything else he threw happened to roll and get crushed.
  21. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Feb 2, 2005 -> 01:21 AM) With the Dback series of moves, I would say that Wilson is prolly the one that actually ends up there.... I don't know the salaries off-hand, but I would say that he's the highest of the bunch. And that's what AZ seems to value above all else right now. I gotta say this, I disagree with some of the salaries they gave but there is no doubt in my mind that the Dbacks are a much improved ball club over last season and if they were to acquire Byrnes I'd say they took another step in the right direction.
  22. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Feb 2, 2005 -> 07:52 PM) Don't give up on Crede just yet. I concur. If he has in fact shortened his swing there isn't too much doubt in my mind that he'll still turn into a better then average 3rd baseman. I still believe Crede is a .275, 30, 100 guy in the future. Not saying he'll do it next year, but if he plays everyday I can easily see .270, 25, 80. And as far as Anderson and Sweeney go, I'm going to pencil myself down with Keith because I think there is a decent shot Anderson gets dealt in a deadline type deal, especially if this team is playing its ass off and a top player goes out on the market. We've seen Kenny be agressive with the Sox potentially out of it, if they are in it, no doubt in my mind if a stud player that could fill a need becomes available he will do whatever it takes to get him. On a sidenote, I don't think there is any reason at this point to worry about where Anderson or Sweeney will play. Sweeney is still two years off at this point (he's still got two more minor league seasons, imo, unless he really explodes this year) and Anderson has at least one more and shouldn't even be thought of as anything but a potential september call up unless an injury occurs or he tears the absolute cover off the ball. Like I've said for a while Anderson isn't as ready as whitesox.com would like you to believe he is. They've seemed to really tout him and I don't disagree that he has the tools, but he still has some flaws in his swing that definately need to be worked out before he has any long term sucess. The Sox shouldn't do what they did with Borchard (which was rush him) because I do think it had a negative effect on him. That and for whatever reason Borchard's never been able to shorten his swing. I think Anderson could go a similar way but I think the odds are very good that he'll turn into the very least a productive major league player. As far as Sweeney goes, his ceiling is being a guy like Garret Anderson and I think you'll see him develop similarly. There swings have some resemblance to me and I think you'll see Sweeney come up an average guy without much power, but as he matures and gets more experience he'll learn to pull more fastballs inside and his power numbers will increase.
  23. Way too hard to say at this point. Once they are made I can break down the guys and teams rotations to watch though.
  24. QUOTE(Melissa1334 @ Feb 2, 2005 -> 07:05 PM) im just hoping and praying that McCarthy and Honel arenta busts like our other highly toughted pitching prospects(diaz,rauch...) also that anderson and sweeney arent busts like joe borchard I don't think McCarthy will dissapoint you but at this point I wouldn't expect too much out of Kris. Honel has definately had some setbacks with injuries and unless he regains his confidence (which will happen with a pickup in velocity) I think there is a good shot he doesn't pan out. But thats just my 2 cents.
  25. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Feb 2, 2005 -> 05:05 PM) I don't care if they make some stupid tournament in March. Dr. Tom didn't have these type of problems in IC, and he made the tourney year after year with inferior talent, save the 87 season(that theam was great). Alford gets the talent that plays great until Christmas, then pisses down their legs everytime they hit B10 play. You shouldn't be happy sneaking into the Tourny every few years, or hoping to win 4 games in 4 days in Chicago to steal a spot. f*** Alford for sticking up for this low-life, and f*** Alford for forcing a group of underachievers on us year after year. Couldn't of said it better myself Cheat. More importantly f*** Pierre Pierce. A guy with NBA talent that instead f***s up. But Alford has had plenty of talent and continued to see this team take dumps in conference plays. I thought he was a good hire at the time, in fact a great hire, turns out I and many others were wrong. Its time for a new team unless they somehow go insanely deep. Sad thing is I like the talent on this squad and I think it will be there again next year since they pretty much have zero seniors on the squad.
