  1. Toast in my book. Its all between the ears too. On a sidenote the Bears signed Nick Setta and sent him to NFLE. I always thought he had a great leg and could turn into a good NFL kicker.
  2. Good hire, next will be a new line coach.
  3. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 8, 2005 -> 05:54 PM) Durham's a lock to miss some games though. And Iguchi has hit over .330 in his last 2 seasons in a pitcher's park. It's more of a risk, but I think the potential reward of Iguchi would outweigh Durham, but that's just me. If the Sox handle things right though, they will be able to spell Ray with a platoon guy and that should be alright. Personally I think its a great move as long as they don't give up Marte. I think thats probably a little too much, unless they get something else in return that could help them out of the pen. But budget wise, they could basically afford to add Durham's entire contract but no way in hell would I give up Marte for him and take on that big contract. On a sidenote, Durham is under contract at roughly 6.5 this year and the following year is an option year.
  4. QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Jan 8, 2005 -> 04:13 PM) As far as who we could trade back, I would say it's safe to assume the Giants won't pay us anything. They're in no position to be sending cash in deals. So the Sox would have to deal some cash back to fit Ray in our payroll situation. Ray makes 6.5 million in 2005, Figure we have 2-3 million left to spend ourselves and we have to deal 3-3.5 million off the roster. Prospects are out since the Giants don't want them. They're outfield is set, so I can't see Carl going. Sox are no position to deal Garland unless they have a Vazquez deal on the table, or something way the hell out of left field. I'm stumped here.... Willie and a prospect would be my guess. I hope not Marte but I think the Giants would ask for him. However, I think it was rather documented that Ozzie was never all that pleased with Marte. But if the Sox deal Marte they better get another reliever. I don't want to see them weaken the bullpen. I do really want Ray Ray here though. Here is a question though, would it be less of a loss if they then picked up someone like Rob Nenn.
  5. QUOTE(Winnin Ugly @ Jan 8, 2005 -> 03:58 PM) Has their been any reports in Chicago about Ray coming back to Chicago... Here in San Fran they think the deal will go through. One of the host on KNBR thinks that the Giants wants Damaso Marte in return Jesus, I sure as hell hope not.
  6. From Rotoworld: Robb Nen - R - SF Free agent Robb Nen (shoulder) recently threw off the mound back-to-back days without discomfort. We suppose that's a good sign. The Rockies are trying to sign Nen and give him a chance to compete for the closer's role. However, Nen may wait until next month before making any decisions. Jan. 8 - 2:17 pm et Source: Denver Post Maybe he's worth re-signing for a minor league deal?
  7. I could see Chandler still potentially on the block but Curry ain't going anywhere.
  8. I'm holding off till Fest, because by then the Sox will have made their final move.
  9. Hell, on top of that he scored 95 runs in just 120 games.
  10. First off, no one is going to convince me that Polanco is better than a healthy Ray Durham. Secondly, if the Giants pick up 3 mill each year of the deal then its a fantastic move for the White Sox. Even 2.5 mill each year. The Giants just want to clear up a little payroll and I Don't think its as much about who they get as it is getting his contract off the books cause they added quite a bit in payroll this year. So I'm guessing one of Diaz, Munoz could do it. Some may gripe about that, but not me. Durham gives the Sox a very fast top of the order, but he's also a good OBP guy and still solid defensively. However, if he's picked up, then it becomes obvious someone has to come in to be a backup middle infielder (guy that can play both ss and 2nd). If they are spending that extra money it may just be Wilson Valdez. But Ray is a career .279/.354/.789 OPS; Thats coming from a 2nd baseman. There is no reason not to be excited over the possibility of bringing him back, especially if its the Sox mainly adding payroll and not giving up a stud level prospect (ie Bmac, Tracey, Anderson, Sweeney). In fact last year he hit .289 with 17 HR's (in 120 games) with a .364 OBP, and a .848 OPS Hell just to throw it out there if the Sox wanted Rowand in the 2 hole they could put Durham in the 3 hole. But Durham/Spod or vice versa is a damn improvement over the previous top of the order in my opinion. Get Ray here. Man I'd fall over in excitement if true. I doubt it though because of the payroll implications. My understanding was Ray always liked Chicago but I thought he was a little upset when he got dealt. Maybe those feelings are past him now. I think Ozzie be pretty familiar with him too.
  11. QUOTE(Confederate_48 @ Jan 8, 2005 -> 11:48 AM) I just read an article on another board that makes it seem like he would actually pick Chicago over Baltimore Ya, it appears Chicago is his first choice, but you never know. They offered him a 3yr 500K deal which seems like a very fair offer.
  12. By the way Ishould say the Trib is saying otherwise and that he'll be the OC by the end of the day.
  13. As long as the Bears have a fair offer on the table, he's going to be in Chicago.
  14. Freaking Alford and the Hawks. Doing there usuaul dump during big ten season. He's gonna be gone at the end of the year cause this team has the talent.
  15. Thats about what Cora will cost, imo.
  16. This all goes through and the Dodgers have a damn good team on paper. They improved from last year and a rotation with Perez, Lowe, Weaver, Penny, and Ishii with Edwin Jackson as a backup is pretty damn good. Lowe will put up great numbers in Dodger stadium too. Then they lose Beltre and Green but replace them with Kent and JD Drew which is near even, imo.
  17. On top of that the Green deal is not over with. Niavarro and Hansley for Green is just a matter of time. The Dbacks are negotiating with Green through the Dodgers.
  18. Dodgers are going to sign Derek Lowe to a 4yr 32 Mill deal to go along with the Odalis Perez signing. Sounds like McCourt loosened the purse strings.
  19. Did you guys hear the deal Green turned down? A 2 year extension worth 9-10 million a year. He is demanding 12 mill per year supposedly.
  20. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jan 7, 2005 -> 04:09 PM) Hell no. A Man that can throw 100 MPH and possibly could become a starter for us in the future or a great closer???? I'm not giving him up. Couldn't agree more. Jenks is one of those arms that you keep on the roster and hope he figures things out. The upside of that young man is MEGA. Stuff wise when healthy he's as good as anyone in minor league baseball. Hopefully Burke makes it through but I could easily see a team like the Dodgers or Drays go after him.
  21. I think if the Sox were to get Stone that they wouldn't just fire DJ. I'm guessing something else is going on. What rumors are going around that Stone will be joining the Sox? I remember talking specifically about it a couple times, but thats about it.
  22. Well I'm pretty sure the new memory system is in. The site is hauling again and should continue to do so. Sorry about the delays but I'm pretty sure the site is ready to rock and roll again. Special thanks go out to Kapkomet
  23. Well I'm gonna go back into prediction mold here (maybe I shouldn't). But I think if the Sox get him it would be something along the lines of a 2yr 5 mill deal. Then a 3rd year option which would be worth 3 mill a year with a 1 mill buyout. He's basically guaranteed 3 mill a year for the 1st two years. And if things work out he ends up getting a total of 8 mill over 3 years (not too shabby). IF he wants to go 3 years guaranteed, my guess is the Sox wouldn't do more then 3 yr 6 mill.
  24. The Sox just get mentioned cause Kenny was once involved in the package. Because of that there names will continue to be mentioned until he's finally moved somewhere.
  25. Assuming the Sox spend less then 2.5 mill on the utility infielder they sign then the Sox will have roughly 4 million in free room come the deadline and if the Sox are in it, I'm willing to bet JR would up that to 6-7. That may not sound like a lot, but when you consider the Sox would only be picking up the prorated portion, it would be enough to land two good players or one really good player.
