Free Agent Pitchers
I beg to differ, offenses can win division (see Atlanta and Cleveland throughout the 90s). Are offense wasn't consistent at all though. We would have 10 run outbursts followed by a 1 or 2 run performance. Offenses can win divisions but it doesn't win in the playoffs. Atlanta's pitching won the divisions in the 90's. Cleveland..... I'll give you that one. But Cleveland didn't win any WS's even though they did get to the big one once. Cleveland had no competition.

Free Agent Pitchers
All of his quotes seem to say he wants to build his team around pitching, pitching, speed, defense, and more pitching. And I for one back that idea to the Nth degree. Now I hope they follow through with it. I will have an open mind this offseason if they deal some of the socalled stars to make room for pitching and talented speedsters. The only thing I care about is the product on the field and I don't care what they have to do to get the right combination out there.

Hideki Matsui, Rich Aurilla, and Orlando Cabrerra are also FA. Christian Guzman is slated to be available as well if the Twins stick to what they've hinted.

Expos
That's why they need to play in San Juan again and more games. They Averaged 14,500 here and if they would put ticket prices like they do in montreal more would come. Now the thing is they have fix the schedule so it ain't so brutal. And there's a strong rumor that there coming down here again in 2004 just some details gotta be fixed.. Sheesh don't bogart all the ML action to yourselfs One question, do you think a full schedule would hurt attendance or create more of a following? I mean if I knew that a team was only coming a few games, then I'd think more people would go when they were in time cause it was more of a special ocassion. That being said if they are permanently their, I'd think they would get more of a diehard following which could result in good fan support too.

About Soxplosion.... I'm Just wondering...
What a weird day, my grandma went into the hospital today, but all the tests came back ok so she is just staying the night as a precaution. Mark, I'm really sorry to hear that about your grandma. I know you were very close to her. I wish her and your family the best.

If this team kept Sully, Brought in Hawkins, brought in Millwood/Ponson and a 5th starter. Mix that with spending maybe 3-4 mill at shortstop and I'd be extremely happy. If they had to deal Konerko/Koch/Maggs/Lose Thomas then I wouldn't be concerned. I'm assuming they would get value for Maggs.

There were a series of posts where some very harsh attacks were made at another poster.

I agree, unless he's willing to take about 500K then get rid of him. I think for the first time ever in the offseason its pretty unanimous that the Sox need a change at shortstop.

Not a big fan of giving big money to Gordon. Would much rather give it to Hawkins.

It definately would take more than 15 million to get Ponson and Millwood. Millwood alone will probably command 10+. Well if thats the case, then I'd be willing to trade for a pitcher that has that type of salary and give up some midlevel guys in exchange for taking on the contract. I just don't know if Millwood is worth 10 mill. Your probably right though, a team will overpay for him. I think 10 mill plus should be reserved for a special player or pitcher and in my mind Millwood isn't special nor is Ponson. Colon isn't even special which is why I'm stunned to see he is commanding 13 mill. Colon is more special then them, simply because he's a freaking stud workhorse. But if the Sox really are prepared to offer 13 mill, then they better be willing to spend that same 13 mill on getting someone else they feel can be an ace in here. Personally I love the idea of getting two very good pitchers.

Couldn't agree more. Invest something like 15 million in those two and I wouldn't have one complaint. That would be a hell of a 5 man rotation. As far as the lineup goes, move who you need to, to clear the way. You will go very far with that kind of pitching. Plus Scho/Wright stay in the pen which is nice, although it may piss Scho off. Hopefully he'll have the right attitude. Mix that with marte and Koch (Unless they somehow move him...we can hope). I'd move him for Benitez if it was possible. The Sox also have Wunsch, so they would in my opinion be alright going after one middle reliever and leaving one spot to Munoz/Sanders/Vet signing late in the offseason. Then if the youngsters struggle, pick up a reliever via trade.

Jeff D'Amico and Corey Lidle would be very solid cheap FA pickups to compete for the 5th spot.

I'd take either.

A new group along side Crede's crew
He hit .308 with an OPS of .892. Now he has to work on making that translate to a full season. If he does...all I can say is All Star. Man I hope the Sox lock him up in a year or so. Crede is one of my fav's. I know RPS will back me on this one....NEVER TRADE CREDE Baltimore wanted Crede before the trade deadline. Thankfully, Kenny "3 for 1" Williams didn't bite. On a sidenote, RPS is MIA. He's been getting spammed and trolled by sCrUB fans. He's even had to change his AIM name . ROFL. I guess thats the one downside to running the most kick ass Sox radio show on the Net But I'm sure all the groupies he gets make up for it

Notre Dame
If their football team wants to join a conference I think the big 10 is the only one that makes sense. Why would you want to always be travelling out to the east coast when you don't have to and such.

Expos
Good. So stupid playing in two different places. They are a really talented team, it sucks that they dont' get much attendance and that they will probably lose some really talented players. Minaya has done a good job and he may be in Cinncy next year.

A new group along side Crede's crew
I just hope none of Elo's Amigos will be jumping off a bridge next season. If he repeats this performance it will be awesome, but I'm going to wait till next year to see the results of that. But you guys couldn't of picked a better guy to root for. As far as Crede, the guy played brilliant in the 2nd half of the season. Don't have the stats off hand, but I'd almost guaranteed he hit around or over .300 in the 2nd half and had a ton of huge hits. He also was one of the only Sox that would consistently get guys over and hit the ball towards first with a runner on 2nd. And as far as his defense...STELLAR. This guy is going to be the best 3rd baseman in the AL with Chavez while Cabrerra will be the best 3rd baseman in the NL.

Expos
Book it, they will play in San juan. On a sidenote, did the players ever have that vote to decide whether they would accept another split schedule or whatever they were going to vote on. The vote was supposed to happen like 3 weeks ago.

Latest rumors
Jose at half price still isn't good enough, now take him as a utility man and I wouldn't complain a ton, but with the FA crop of shortstops out there, there are quite a few better and younger options. As far as trading for a leadoff hitter, I think this means that Konerko is either going for a leadoff hitting prospect or is going for some leadoff hitter that is solid but has a decent size salary, probably one or two years left. That info seems real reasonable. Hopefully Arow is alright, if it happened. If it did happen, I'd think you'd see him get dealt. I don't see the Sox bringing in a new centerfielder unless he's named Kenny Lofton. Ie, Veteran stop gap so Reed/Borchard can play when ready.
