  1. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jun 14, 2014 -> 10:20 AM) http://www.milb.com/scoreboard/index.jsp?s...mp;ymd=20140614 Charlotte- Axelrod and Heath HOnestly, how can a AAA franchise have both of those as SPs? Lord this org lacks pitching.
  2. QUOTE (scs787 @ Jun 14, 2014 -> 01:34 PM) He's been pretty solid in the minors sans this year. Never really showed anything in the majors. Maybe he's a Steverson guy. Jake Sanchez, who the Sox gave up, was an interesting prospect. I can't understand giving any sort of real prospect for this guy. I don't know what Sanchez is, but I assume he isn't a prospect. Scrap heap's one thing, but you trade for scrap heap players.
  3. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 14, 2014 -> 04:18 PM) Thoughts? Don't catchers usually sit in day games after night games? Nieto's appeared at least passable this season.
  4. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jun 13, 2014 -> 06:04 PM) I say open up the Trade Winds Forum. It's about that time in the summer. The question is, are the sox buyers or sellers this summer? Can they perhaps be both???? They can't possibly buyers. Well I guess they could, but it's wishing on a star, believing that this team will seriously contend. it's far more likely that they finish last than first. Don't waste an opportunity to acquire young talent.
  5. I would have thought that Wendelken would have been top 15-20ish.
  6. The question is, are they more likely to go on an 8/10 win streak, or an 8/10 losing streak. Because it will come.
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 12, 2014 -> 09:42 AM) And/or Semien and Micah Johnson become part of the outfield solution. Granted, it's hard to imagine Eaton and one of those two putting up 675-725 OPS numbers together. Eaton's got to return to his 750-775 form...more walks, more stolen bases and an improved steal percentage. But there's no doubt we're a much more formidable line-up with a healthy/pesky Adam at the top. Honestly, with Beckham hitting 2nd and then ABreu, I'm not all that interested in Eaton doing much stealing. Not worth the risk. Now more walks would help.
  8. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 12, 2014 -> 09:20 AM) He'll cost about $6m (half of the entire value of the Keppinger contract) and another season of Semien/Sanchez/Johnson/Saladino being forced out of position or stuck in AAA. I'm not saying that logjam has been or will be a problem THIS year, but it probably will next year. And it'll be Gordon free agent year. It's time to s*** or get off the pot with him. The logjam could thin itself out over the next year. Once PK and Dunn leave, Gillaspie will/should play more backup 3B and do some DHing. Beckham and Alexei are both movable. We're also woefully short of decent outfielders, so any of those guys could be moved for a similar OF prospect. Don't force a trade of Beckham, but certainly listen.
  9. If they trade him, trade him for young prospects with some ceiling. Trading him for bullpen pieces will never get us anywhere.

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jun 10, 2014 -> 09:44 PM) It isn't bad if he can hit 25+ home runs and steal some bases for us.. And have an occasional break out year. And if he can walk and reduce the Ks.
  11. We have close to zero pitching in the mid and upper minors. That, I suspect, is why the records are so poor.
  12. Alex Rios would not have added 3-4 wins to our win total in 1 month of ball. That extrapolates to 15-20 wins over the course of a season. If he were that capable, he'd be baseball's MVP by a mile. Rios had to go. No regrets.
  13. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 01:22 PM) Not many scouts would of batted an eye if he was selected in the 2nd round and those slot values ranged from 1 to 1.5 million. And that's him coming off of TJ surgery, if he preforms well in college he could be top 10 pick in the 2017 draft. It might be half a million dollars now, but it could be 2-4 million dollars in a couple years and the fun and excitement of college. Then why wasn't he drafted in the 3rd or 4th round? And if it's because he wasn't considered signable, then I think it's clear we'd have to offer > than 3rd round money to get him.
  14. Loved the first 2 picks. Didn't care for the 3rd (low ceiling). Don't know enough about the rest or the alternatives.
  15. Hahn better assemble a team 6-10 games better than anyone else in the division if he expects to make the playoffs with this huge anchor managing the team.
  16. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jun 6, 2014 -> 09:09 AM) So he can stay healthy and in the lineup. Putting him in LF also significantly raises the overall defense in the OF if you have someone as good or better in CF. If Avi Garcia can learn to play defense the outfield could be elite defensively. Eaton's offense is marginal for a corner OF. But he would help the D a lot.
  17. Don't bring back Dunn. With he and Konerko gone, we can bring up some of our MI, let Connor play some DH and 1B. Heck, I hope he gets it back together and we can dump him on someone next month.
  18. A quick call up means an earlier big payday which = more money and quicker for Boras, which could make a reasonable signing easier. That said, Rodon's got lot of miles on him this year. I'd think that they would want to take it easy with him this year.
  19. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 11:38 PM) Bruce Levine was on wscr making the cubs plan seem sensible. Then said rodon's record hurt him this year man is a putz and dolt. I'm sorry but that is absolutely hilarious. Bruce should do stand up.
  20. How is this not 100% Alexei's fault? All he has to do is run him back to first and Beckham is there waiting. http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?g...&mode=video
  21. QUOTE (Bruce_Blixton @ Jun 4, 2014 -> 06:27 PM) Saladino has been on fire recently, .429/.667/1.095 over his last 10 games and adds another triple today. I hope Hahn is working on some way to move some of the middle infield players, between Semien, Micah Johnson, Sanchez & Saladino there's at least 3 major leaguers in that group for only 1 potential open spot next year depending on what they do with Beckham. It appears that that needs some thinning out. What we need is more pitching and some outfielders. But we have been singularly impotent at trading for "ML ready" pitching prospects over the last several years (as per the results of the Jackson, Santos and Quentin trades). Do better finding some in the low minors and developing them ourselves.
  22. Sox played some bad baseball tonight in many ways, but still won. Good show.
  23. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 4, 2014 -> 10:00 AM) What are the examples? http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/beane-a...wn-terms-052914 We traded 1 prospect for Quentin, who, himself, was a prospect. Early, williams traded off top prospects. Later, he just acquired too many mediocre players and our drafting wasn't good. I like Oak's philosophy - it's like we overreacted with "tools" after we drafted that stiff Broadway. Williams has always liked hard throwers...Koch, MacDougal and the like. I prefer Oak's approach. Ks are good, but you don't need to throw 96 to get them. I would take Nola...but only because I have a heavy distrust, perhaps bias, of drafting HS pitchers early. If there were a really top hitter, I'd take him first.
  24. I read another article that shows today they are overpaying in prospects to win now. That part of the recipe we don't need to copy.
