  1. Just another Getz trade where it seems that we didn't make the other team feel any pain. They gave up none of their best products. We gave up one of the best pitchers in baseball. The best prospect they relinquished is the player they just got from the Yankees (a red flag in itself), so there isn't the sense of loss. And then, of course, the obligatory middle reliever, which I suppose is better than getting a utility infielder. I suppose the return is okay, but nothing special and disappointing.
  2. How the players impact the Sox’ performance is the only thing that really matters. But yes, whether we face cease or not is minor. Preller does deals. He’s a good guy to trade with.
  3. Padres. I don’t know what his farm looks like but he’s always willing to trade and we’d only face Cease at most once.
  4. That Rosenthal trade with the Rangers would be a real clown act. Porter, Leiter and a utility infielder. Good gracious. I didn’t like Leiter in the draft, and he’s only gotten worse.
  5. Peavy trade ended up being okay. Prospects we traded didn't do much and we flipped him for Avi and Montas. (not that we got a whole lot out of them). Of course, we withheld our top pitching prospect from the Peavy trade, but then traded him next summer for E Jackson and his 5+ ERA
  6. I like him. But he's a back 1/2er (of the top100), right? I like another one of their SS too. But, you know, the idea is to get the guys who will be there tomorrow, even if they aren't yet there today. He may be top 30 in a year.
  7. Well if they Yankees are in with a new and improved offer and it still doesn't include Jones, their (and others') earlier offers were probably a lot weaker than suspected. As for Jones, some rank him highly; others (Law) don't. I suspect that the Sox do. I also don't see a lot of other Yankees prospects that are particularly compelling.
  8. Looks like the opening day starting lineup was out there today, sans Cease.
  9. Need to develop some hitters. Quero, Montgomery and Ramos would be a good start. But could use a real OF masher or 2.
  10. They should develop him as a starter and trade him July 2025. But if they are inane enough to put him in the bullpen, yes we should trade him as soon as possible.
  11. A touch jerky.
  12. Catcher should be Korey Lee and either Maldonado or Stassi. Lee was fine behind the plate last year; Yea, he batted .100, but that's probably sample-size driven. I think the Sox can count on him for at least .190 or .200 this season.
  13. Same approach the Sox are taking - we're letting our veterans walk. The difference is that the Sox are replacing them with more decrepit veterans.
  14. Re other totals, baseball totals is the one sport I like playing unders. My lock is St Louis under 85.5. They won't be any better. I wonder if I can find some odds that they go under 70. Seattle got worse over the offseason. Under 86.5.
  15. i hope he keeps that up an doesn't even tempt Pedro to keep him around.
  16. We didn't have any young middle infielders ready to go; so I get signing DeJong; and even trading for Lopez (although he's tougher to "get"). I get wanting to avoid a "scorched earth" 50 win team. That doesn't do anybody any good. But signing Maldanado (we already had 2 defensive catchers), and then Moustakas, when we should be going for roster flexibility, and then listening to Pedro talk about expecting players to hit well because they have "done it before" just makes me wonder if there is a plan. Maybe this particular trade for Horn makes sense; but in general, trading for relievers, trading away young prospects who don't need to be 40-manned, is pretty much the opposite of what a team in this position should be doing.
  17. And this guy just blew way JR and the entire FO during his interview. Editors Note: blew Away
  18. They just keep doing this. Helping other teams with their 40 man crunch.
  19. One thing that has struck me about all 3 of these trades is that the Sox, despite being the team that is rebuilding, sent away the only real prospect of the bunch. We didn't make any of the teams we traded with feel paid or trepidation. Instead we he helped them relieve their 40-man crunches, and those that weren't on the 40 man were really 3rd tier guys. A lot of volume, and hopefully some of it works out.
  20. Nightengale Law's write-up on Jones, who is not in his top 100, makes him seem like the next Palka.
  21. I guess Elko is pegged as a AAA guy, but he sure has a smooth swing.
  22. Looks a little hitchy.
  23. As a proud member of the 2024 Optimist Club, and my optimism is all despite Pedro. Really, I haven't read a single post that suggests Pedro will help things. The only move that I consider a negative, more in what it portends than what it is, is the signing of Moustakas.
