Seeing you and WH1 say that, it's funny, how much devotion and emotion we as fans place on a baseball team. Because you know what? I did the exact same thing. I went to bed. And I kind of looked up at the ceiling of my room. And I was thinking about Olivo's homer down the third base line. And I was picturing, I'll never forget this, what Julie Schwieka (sp?) said about him. She said he was standing behind homeplate, and with ease, threw the ball into the Sox bullpen. And I was trying to picture that. And then I thought about Jeremy Reed, well, I tried too, but I've really never seen him except for ST. And then I pictured the best thing of all; I got chills up and down my back, as I just sat there thinking. Game one of the ALCS. And on the PA, Gene Honda over the loudspeaker 'Sox Fans, ON YOUR FEET, FOR YOUR 2004 AL CENTRAL CHAMPION CHICAGO WHITE SOX!' 'First, the battery! Catching for the Sox, Sandy Alomar Jr. Pitching, Freddy Garcia!' And the roar from the crowd. And I just thought about that for awhile. Hopefully, it will be a dream come true...

I'm not saying to go out and give top prospects up for him. I do this deal on two contingents (sp?): 1.) Pitt pays at LEAST half of his remaining contract. 2.) None of Borchard/Anderson/Sweeney/Honel (Any of the top prospects) are included. I also think this is a possibility, because: The Cubs were able to totally fleece them last year. Why can't we do the same? Pittsburg really wants to rid themselves of the big contract. If they pay for half or more than half of the contract, they'll still be removing some payroll.
-
I just saw/heard 'eat a portion of the contract.' But didn't when they traded Giles, eat up ALL of his contract? I know they got Oliver Perez in that deal, but if, say, we ask them to eat half of it, I think Rauch and a couple of prospects could do. IMO they are really desperate to move his contract. If they eat half of it, we pay half of it, I'd be happy. He would be the hitter we need in our lineup (the Reed type, high average, high OBP). Right before Big Hurt and Maggs, that would be awesome. I've always loved Kendall, just hated his contract.
-
Agreed. I would seriously question KW's decision-making if a move like that were to be made.

I'm getting this partly from another board, and partly from my memory of either hearing it/reading it somewhere on ESPN.com/ESPN (My apologies, no linky.). But - the Sox would send prospects to Pitt, and Pitt would eat a good chunk of Kendall's future salary. Kendall obviously makes a lot of money, and the only way I make this deal is if they eat a good portion of Kendall's salary, not just this year, but down the road as well. Kendall would be a great number 2 hitter for us. He's a great contact hitter, kind of like Randall Simon except will take a walk. Doesn't strike out a lot and he walks a lot. I love the way he plays. If Kenny makes this deal, I think a lot of us would forget Miguel Olivo really fast. And considering how the Cubs fleeced Pittsburg last year, giving up the awesome Bobby Hill, I think we have a serious shot at Kendall without giving up the farm. Rauch-Spidale/Brice/Young-Lower Level Prospect for Kendall (and Pitt eats a lot of the salary?) Am I being realistic here? I know a lot of people don't like just 'rumors', but since I saw it/heard it on ESPN/ESPN.com, I wanted to let you guys know, if only for discussion purposes.

No, no no no no. I don't want any of our guys to be hearing anything such as that. We're still the fourth best team in this division (ehem Harold Reynolds). We'll be lucky, with our crummy pitching staff to win this AL Central. The Indians, Twins, and Royals are all ahead of us. Now I know that isn't true, but I want our guys to play with a chip on their shoulder. It pissed me off so damn much when dumbass Harold Reynols talked about the AL Central before the season: 'Blah blah blah, My sleeper team is the Indians. They'll compete with the Royals for the division, the Sox have no pitching so they'll be lucky to finish fourth.' Ok that is all - just want the boys to play with a chip on their shoulder.

Noooooooo! That is the exact same quote I wanted in my sig, Chisox! You bastard! Damn - I had it planned out perfectly. Several photos of Garcia, headlined by "The Time is Now!". But you stole it! Bastard, I hate you!

If he gets more than ten, I'll be exstatic. I'm expecting right around ten wins though. More importantly, I hope Freddy is able to give us a chance to win almost every start.

IMO Dusty's positives is a manager is his ability to keep his team at a happy-medium throughout the whole season. (Bernstien said it this morning.) What I mean by that, they will never get too high for a game ( ), or too low for a game. Obviously, they'll suffer in games like these, but they may do better against teams that you 'should' beat, like Montreal, Pittsburg. I don't know if that is holding true this year, though... Overall, I don't like him as a manager. He leaves his starters out there way too long during the early part of the season (i.e. Zambrano throwing 128 on Saturday), and he doesn't know how to handle a bullpen. That's JMHO, though.

If Garcia is able to post a sub-4 ERA in our park I will be happy. In our park. He'll have to do better on the road, but if he can stay under 4 in our park, I'll be happy.

Mike North is a f***ing moron: He says he doesn't have faith in Kenny Williams making moves for pitching, and stats the Todd Ritchie trade, but ignores people like Takatsu, Marte, Schoeney, and Loaiza. Then he says we gave up three 'top' prospects for 'a 4-7' pitcher, while ignoring ERA and WHIP. He's such a f***ing moron. And then he calls Morse a top prospect. Top prospect my ass. He knows absolutely nothing about the Sox minor leagues, and he says our minor leagues are now bare without Reed. I emailed him and that's the only reason I'm still listening - what a f***ing boob.

Speaking of personalities: Mike North is a damn moron...

Is it just me or does DJ sound dumber and dumber
CWSGuy406 replied to gsoxs1's topic in Pale Hose Talk
They should have picked my mom's second cousin, former White Sox pitcher Donn Pall over DJ. Seriously though, he is my mom's second cousin. He made it to, something like the final four finalists to fill Whimpy's spot, and he lost. I was so dissappointed when I heard that, too, Donn really loved his time with the Sox and he loves the Sox. -
I've heard that: -Davis can call a good game. -Is solid defensively. -Has a pretty good arm. First - are these true? I know hiw bat sucks, but he's going to hit ninth in the order. If our offense hinges on if Ben Friggin Davis is able to hit or not, then we're in a boatload of trouble. That is all I want from my catcher. Be a threat to throw out runners. Call a good game. Be smart defensively. Get on base from time to time. No need to be at a Mark Johnson-like .190 average, but .230-.250 while drawing a share of walks would be nice.

You're a moron. (My apologies to the mods for the personal attack. Let me know if I'm going too far with that comment.)
-
My sentiments exactly. We can worry about next year when the last out of the year (that being, hopefully in late-late October) is recorded.

I am fine with the trade. What bothers me is how they treated Reed. He was EXACTLY what this team needed, a future, not a star (most likely), but a guy who would do everything right, and get on base a lot. He might not hit 30+ homers a year, but he will hit .300+. He will get on base, at the least, at a .380 clip. I just don't understand this organization's hard-on for Borchard. They say he's doing great there, yet he's only hitting .285 or so. Is that Borchard's best, because if it is, then damn, that blows. And they say Reed was slumping, yet was still hitting .270+ with a fairly high OBP, with two injured wrists, in his first year at AAA. Sometimes I question this organization. I don't mind the trade, I just question their lack of faith in Reed...

We gave up Oliva? Who the f*** is Oliva?
-
Jeckle - would you please, just do us all a favor, and go somewhere else? Each end of the spectrum with you, isn't it? I mean, one minute we're going to the World Series, the next minute we suck. You = :dips*** times 100.

Believe me - you aren't smart...

ESPN 1000: Freddy Garcia traded to the White Sox
CWSGuy406 replied to Flash Tizzle's topic in Pale Hose Talk
That indeed is VERY interesting, Sox45. Can someone do it? I'm writing up something for CSR right now, can someone do that with ERA included? That would really interest me... -
Ah- screw that idea then. Didn't realize his contract was so s***ty. Nevermind that then. I agree though, as long as we can get a guy who can throw people out and who can call a good game and I will be happy.

Since we now have a rotation of Alomar-Burke-Davis behind the plate ( :puke ), we are going to need a catcher. That got me thinking to who was available. I only thought of one, one who I've always liked and I brought up earlier in the year, but it was shot down, obviously because of Olivo's progression. But now Olivo is gone. What about Jason Kendall? IIRC he's in the last year of his contract, he's a great contact hitter, solid defensively. What about trying to swing a deal to aquire both Kendall and Meadows? Thoughts?

Best of luck, Olivo!
