I know that Hawk said stuff about wanting to see his grand kids play ball more, but I also wonder if what happens during our off season has any bearing on his decision. I mean it 's hard enough traveling all over and being away from family, And then when that time is watching a team destroy itself game after game because of issues like a bullpen just GIVING games away. I wonder..................if he REALLY believes that the team would be a dominant threat next year...i wonder if that would factor in his decision to stay on full time or not? Could he also be waiting to see what the front office accomplishes before he makes a final decision on whether he feells that another season is worth being away form the family again? I believe that his "DRIVE" to announce is still there....but if he feels that we still wont have enough to be a major factor next year.................then that has to take some of the drive and incentive away from him doing this full time again. BUT if he feels that we will be a legitimate threat, I think that he would not want to miss out on being a center figure (the main announcer) during a season where the real thrill of winning again is alive and hungry. I may be wrong, but part of this seems to make sense.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 3, 2014 -> 11:04 AM) LMAO no, he just disappeared and all the sudden Stone was PBP If I remember correctly, he said something a few times of not being able to say something correctly because he had a bad cold. My guess is when the game went in extra innings that Hawk was just feeling so under the weather, that he took off and asked Stone to finish out.

Was just curious. (I am sure the answer is obvious, but just something that I was never clear on, or fully understood). Every year I hear the pressure of teams making trades by July 31st deadline. This year we were all hoping that Dunn would be gone by then. If there is a deadline...then how can a player be traded after that time period without putting him on waivers? What's the point of the "pressure" of a deadline for trading....if someone can still be traded afterwards? Thanks for any and all clarifications to those that reply.

Chris Bassitt to debut Saturday vs Tigers
Rooftop Shots replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 28, 2014 -> 01:14 PM) The next Jose Quintana??? Q only had 9 starts in AA before coming to the bigs to stay. Bassitt has had 14 dating back to last year. In those 14 starts he's got an 1.97 ERA with a 73/31 K/BB rate in 82 innings.....Walks are a bit high but maybe Coop can see something he can fix in that regard. Here's a nice fangraphs article from last year... http://www.fangraphs.com/fantasy/chris-bas...ching-prospect/ thanks for the post and info -

General question regarding trade deadline sellers. Does anyone EVER recall in recent baseball history if a team that was a seller, UNEXPECTEDLY got things turned around with the players that they aquired after their dump......................and went on to benefit them to the point of reaching the playoffs? Was just wondering if after salary dumps and trades...........if the new group had ever jelled so quickly and played so well that they actually made the team in contention from July 31 to end of year with strong possibility of post season play? Was just wondering if it had EVER been done before.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 10:28 AM) Ervin Santana is a good pitcher. He's not as good as James Shields, but it's not by as much as you think. He was coming off a very good season of pitching, was 31 years old, and was offered a qualifying offer. He didn't get signed until March. James Shields is a great pitcher. He's better than Ervin Santana, but not by as much as you think. He could ultimately be coming off a great season or mediocre season, but as it stands right now, his season has been nothing else but slightly disappointing. He will be 33 years old and will be offered a qualifying offer. If he gets $80 million, the team signing him is making a monumental mistake. He's not getting $125 million, let alone $140 million. If he gets $140 million, I will eat a bar of soap. Santana also has a history rep of giving up home runs and a fly ball pitcher. At the cell he would get raked.

Just got home. Was at the game. SOOOOO nice to go to a game again and have the electricity of the offense in full force. Was amazed and how quickly Alexei's granny left the park, That thing was TAGGED. Hard to even be able to conceive what the offense will be like next year when Garcia comes back.............and have money to spend when Dunn is gone as well. Until then....win or lose...its always great when an opportunity comes just to be able to go to the ball park. When a game comes along like today's....its a BONUS!

so nice to see a slugfest again. Wasn't sure if I was watching the Sox. or the Bugs Bunny cartoon with all the big goons rounding the bases against Bugs. Just think when weather gets even warmer....we may see a lot more of these types of games at the Cell.

As of today... who is the #6 starter for the Sox?
Rooftop Shots replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 8, 2014 -> 02:35 PM) They really are not much alike as pitchers. Not sure where you are getting that. Guess I should have clarified. Didn't mean pitching styles. I meant that both of them seem to be in the same competitive pitching category of looking like any good line up can just "tee off" on these guys. Saw Nothing real impressive with either one (especially the ability to throw and locate strikes with any good pitches on a consistent basis). As mentioned in a previous post................Another right handed "get-by-er" is not going to be enough to cut it if we are going to give Detroit a serious run. -

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Apr 8, 2014 -> 10:49 AM) I wish it was Paulino. Or make him 7th. Or 8th. 7th? 8th? you are being generous. Ever since I saw him in spring training I was saying that this guy is a scrub. My feeling is he won the starting job because lets face it. Who do we REALLY have that is not just another "get by-er" type of guy on the right side? We really have NO ONE on the right side with a hopeful feeling of "Whoa....cant wait for this so an so call up." Its when we look at ANY call up that is out there, its more of a feeling of "well...... I guess he has to have a chance" That doesn't cut it if a team wants to contend for a playoff spot let alone be any real threat in our own division. -
How much $$ will we get for Dunn when we inevitably trade hi
Rooftop Shots replied to Vance Law's topic in Pale Hose Talk
So tired of watching the patheticism of that oversized blob, that I would be happy to exchange him for a bowl of cornflakes. Soooooooooooo cannot see the logic in keeping a human funeral parlor with arms and legs clogging up a key position in a batting lineup only to watch him fail sooo miserably day in and day out. Hey Reinsdorf! Put the pride aside. Eat the contract and put someone in his spot that can at least put the bat on the ball. Lets face it. The guy sucks. Granted......I still don't think we have enough pitching that will take us over the top., But one thing for sure........is keeping Dunn at all (or even in the middle of the lineup) is the one DOOM that we have in the offense. -
White Sox vs Brewers 3/17 game thread
Rooftop Shots replied to southsider2k5's topic in 2014 Season in Review
Maybe someone with more pitching knowledge can tell me what the Sox see in Paulino. I watched the game this morning. Geeez looks like the guy was steering the heck out of the ball. Looks like a lot of upper body and less driving with the legs. Didn't see much command. Fast ball was even straighter that Matt Thortons, and breaking ball wasn't that impressive. Sure he threw scoreless innings today, but look who it was against?. I'll tell ya....... I can see a team with a potent lineup really teeing off on this guy. Someone know something else that can prove me wrong?? NOT LOOKING for controversy . Just saying that from what I saw, that I hope that this guy does not make part of our starting rotation any time soon. -
Just read where DiGiorno's has been dropped. Beggars signed to multi year deal. COOOL!!! If you haven't tried Beggars,,,their motto is "we lay it on thick" If you are sausage lover....you'll get plenty of it. Just hope they don't skimp at the park, because in their restaurants sometimes you get almost tooo much sausage. Crains chicago Business

uote name='southsider2k5' date='Jan 8, 2014 -> 02:19 PM' post='2916084'] Great for Frank. This is validation of exactly how incredible of a hitter the guy was. Also 16 people didn't vote for Greg Maddux. Seriously? Awful. More than Biggio missing by 2 votes, Maddux being left off of 16 ballots means there are 16 writers out there who need to be b**** slapped. yeah I know, how in the world can ANYONE turn him down (let alone a TOTAL of 16), with numbers and stats like his. Just don't understand some peoples thought process. I heard them say on MLBN that there was one writer that would never vote anyone in that was playing during the steroid era..............and that included Maddux.

IFF the Sox do decide to have a fire sale, was wondering if there is any smidgen of hope at all. My question....does anyone know if any team has ever unexpectedly won the division after they had a fire sale...or even went further into the playoffs? Was just curious if anyone has ever benefitted from it when they pretty much threw in the towel. Thanks.

QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 2, 2013 -> 02:41 AM) The problem is that 4 or 5 of the 10 hitters are young/raw or not MLB starters... Keppinger Gillaspie Flowers DeAza/Viciedo ...and the main power guys are on the downside of their careers Dunn Konerko Ramirez and Rios are the only prime guys on the roster and the hitting is suffering because of it. Good point. That is why regardless how good our pitching staff looked on paper at the beginning of the year that we we would not be able to compete with Detroit this year.....UNLESS they have a year where KEY people get taken out (Like we had the year where Thomas and Ordonez went down simultaneuosly). Other than that....because of the points that you just made...........I feel that the only REAL chance that we have of moving forward this year......is if Detroit and others just move Backwards because of injuries. REALLY DON'T mean to be pessimistic. but the "reality" is..............It is what it is with our lineup....................and Knightni has pretty much summed up what was viewed upon our lineup from the beginning of the year. Heck...our lineup reminds me of the 68 Sox. We had a TEAM ERA of 2.53 and couldnt win the pennant. The batting lineup was a funeral parlor with arms and legs. Kind of the same thing here. But regardless....its baseball season...............and I still enjoy watching The sox even though it hurt to see them play this way.

REAL sorry to hear that Tex. There are no words of comfort to express......because when something like this happens, there is really nothing that can comfort. All that any of us can do is give you our support.....and to say Thank You for everything that you did on YOUR part as to how you influenced her life in the ways that God has taught you and has gifted you with. I wish you the best Tex as I know that your heart is pretty heavy over this horrible loss. Take it one day at a time my friend.

Fangraphs: What's required for a Paul Konerko infield hit?
Rooftop Shots replied to LittleHurt05's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (YASNY @ Mar 7, 2013 -> 02:19 AM) A wind blown pop up. Didn't ADA get a windblown infield double last year? yeah was at that game laughed my head off. was a muggy day. Beckham hit a home run and the fireworks smoke LINGERED in the air. I remember telling my brother what a great time for a fly ball. and BANG DeAza hits a pop up that landed by the pitchers mound . NOBODY saw it anywhere because of all of the smoke and he got a double. Sometimes ya gotta love home field advantage. What a great basbeall moment. Will probaly never see that again. -
QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Mar 7, 2013 -> 12:41 PM) Not Beiber, but still a musician. Alvin Lee, front man for Ten Years After and Woodstock fame, dead at 68. CNN story here. wow didnt know that he passed. Saw him on TV about a year ago and still played well. Very unique sound out of his guitar. When you heard it you knew it was him.
