2010 AL Central Catch-All
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 17, 2010 -> 02:00 PM) He's going to be an absolute star. Leading all catchers in baseball in every offensive stat since June 1st. I still can't believe they got him for Casey Blake. What a steal.

NBA Offseason Thread
I have not watched him since his rookie season (can't remember really) but does anyone know if Rudy Fernandez is a good catch and shoot player? I like what I've read about him, as he has gotten a pretty raw deal in Portland, but can stroke it from downtown (don't know if he's good as a moving shooter or does he have to always be set, and yes I know his ball handles are weak) and is a good FT shooter to limit Brewer there. As far as trades, he might be one of the Bulls best options to try and get, even if his defense makes J.J. Redick look like Bruce Bowen. (well he isn't THAT bad, actually gets a bit of a bad rap, but he isn't very good either)

7/16 Games
QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 16, 2010 -> 08:09 PM) Escobar has 2 walks. What in the world? I knew that would get a rise out of you. Jeremy Reed went 1-4, R in his 2010 Knight debut.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 16, 2010 -> 05:00 PM) BTW, where the hell has Steve been lately? It really makes me think that he's gone into depression after the whole LeBron thing. I'm guessing on my part, but I believe he is suspended. (I don't think he took my "RIP" sig thing THAT seriously)

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 16, 2010 -> 03:54 PM) lol. what the hell? You changed your name to J.Reedfan8? What is it with you and scrubs (Garrett Jones)? http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=78462 Peep that thread and shoot me a PM if you wanna know how I became a fan of Jeremy Reed. (before he hit .400 in AA) And hey... if a guy who is a career .274/.344/.481/.825 is a scrub, then I like those kinda scrubs. BTW, this was my first name when I started posting here on soxtalk FYI.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 16, 2010 -> 04:29 PM) Not a good sniper, which is what they need more. Yea. The only decent option I see (I'm only talking SG not PG here) is Roger Mason. Sadly, might be the best option the Bulls have. (as far as FA) Had a down year last season, but prior to was solid from long distance and is a career .381% 3 point shooter. (looks awfully good compared to Deng's .309% though he wasn't bad last year in limited attempts) BTW, Bulls fans don't get too pissed when Brewer is missing key FTs. He is a terrible FT shooter.

QUOTE (IamtheHBOMB @ Jul 16, 2010 -> 01:39 PM) PG: Rose/??? SG: Brewer/Korver (both are swingmen) SF: Deng/Johnson PF: Boozer/Gibson C: Noah/Asik I'd guess that is the depth chart right now. I'd really like the Bulls to pick up another shooter. Maybe they can find a PG with decent range. A backup PG with range or a sniper as a SG (which I would prefer, Johnson can swing from SF/PF) would greatly help. Korver can not be your only legit threat from downtown. (unless Luol Deng can actually.. you know.. hit threes at a respectable rate or JJ takes a huge step up from last season) I gotta say adding a 2 guard with great length (and great athleticism/defense) in Brewer is very beneficial to Rose's future. Shame he can't shoot from long distance, but in parts of an up tempo style, where Rose can thrive, Brewer will be a very good fit in the open court. Hopefully he's fine after that nasty hamstring injury he had last season.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 16, 2010 -> 03:35 PM) I don't even know a Mauer... Well played Mauer.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 16, 2010 -> 01:17 PM) Thome and Mauer most likely won't gain anything form the park, since they have very good opposite field power and usually don't pull their home runs. It wouldn't matter with Thome. He hits them oppo, pull, etc.. Mauer I agree with. He is mostly an oppo guy.

Short with his 14th homer. Kid must be eating his Wheaties or something, as he's improved his HR per AB each month.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 16, 2010 -> 01:14 AM) He doesn't see a penny of that luxury tax money. He'll make 7 million. The Magic will have to pay him 7 million and the NBA 7 million. Thats why I said "counting tax of course." Sorry I didn't say that as good as I should have (my mistake there), but I know/meant he will make 7 (or technically 8+ since it is front loaded) mil.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 16, 2010 -> 12:33 AM) Edit Dos: Magic bench players have to really, really hate Otis Smith. Both Gortat and Redick got decent offers from other clubs to start to only be (probably in JJ's case) matched and be a bench player. It really is a dumb business decision, but their owner is rich so he can do these kind of things. Orlando is now very deep once again and is still a top 3 team in the East. Funny to see Redick will only make 2 million less (counting tax of course) than Dwight Howard this comming season to be a backup. Lets hope if we sign Brewer, Gar can somehow net another sniper to pair with Rose. (Korver alone won't get it done)

I can't believe, assuming we win this one, we would have ANOTHER 10 (maybe +) game winning streak.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 15, 2010 -> 06:23 PM) Looks like Redick (as expected) has been matched. http://nba.fanhouse.com/2010/07/15/magic-t...fer-from-bulls/ Expect to see a Brewer signing by the end of the weekend. Almost a forgone conclusion that was going to be the case. Shocked so many posters here were penciling him at SG when it was a longshot. Still though, Bulls still need another sniper to pair with Rose. You can't go into the year with just Korver. Brewer is nice, but he is mostly a defensive stopper with the occasional knockdown 10-15 foot jumper, not a long range guy. I hate to throw Roger Mason on there, but baring a trade, he might be the best option left on the market.

Only beef I have is Danks runs should be unearned. Other than that, outstanding win. Go get em tomorrow Gavin!

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jul 15, 2010 -> 04:38 PM) Booo... change it already.... It's back. Thanks Jeremy.

Name Change? Anything else needed?
Well.... after thinking it over, (and pressure from some other posters. ) I will like to indeed, change my name back to my original name when I first started here since the man is back. (though who knows how long he will be back here, but he is back) J.Reedfan8 please.

2010-2011 NHL thread
Jack Skille signs a one year 600K deal with he Hawks. http://blogs.suntimes.com/blackhawks/2010/...o_one-year.html Qualifying offer was 900K, 2-way deal. Instead he signed a cap-friendly $600k deal to force himself into the lineup. Smart move. He'll be an UFA in 2011.

As I said a week ago, I fully expect Redick to remain a Magic. (though I still think it's ridiculous having a guy making 14 million, with the tax included, on your bench but hey I'm not a billionaire)

QUOTE (kev211 @ Jul 15, 2010 -> 12:33 PM) They said they were going to take to Friday just to tie up the Bulls money because that's what competitors do. That was the deadline, though KC had heard differently. so we might have to wait an extra day.
