Sox #2 hitters saw lowest % of fastballs last year
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 5, 2010 -> 02:47 PM) That would not be a surprise. Ozzie didn't want a real DH, why would he want a guy taylor made to hit #2 in the order like Beckham there when he can hit a guy who was below the mendoza line for us last year in that spot instead? Well to be fair, if Rios or Alexei is #2 and Beckham is hitting 3rd/5th, I wouldn't mind it at all. I actually like Alexei and Rios up there if they can get on base, but Beckham right now is the perfect candidate. I will throw a hissy fit if I see .317 OBP A.J. Pierzynski hitting up there though. All of this will be moot though if Pierre doesn't get on base consistently. God, what I would do to get Denard Span on our team.

Orlando Hudson Signs With Twins
Hmmm... CF- Span 2B- O-Dog C- Mauer 1B- Morneau DH- Kubel (some Thome) RF- Cuddyer SS- Hardy LF- Young 3B- Harris/Punto Or (what I think they will do when it's all and and done..) CF- Span 2B- O-Dog C- Mauer 1B- Morneau LF- Kubel RF- Cuddyer (just to break up the lefties) DH- Thome SS- Hardy 3B- Harris/Punto Damn thats alot of OBP in that lineup. Should I chalk down Mauer or Morneau for MVP again?

Pessimist Award Voting
I don't like to comment much on these awards, but I can't help but comment on this one. Kalapse + qwerty pessimist?! They aren't pessimist, they are just right about every damn thing pro or con. Guys like fathom (the best still) DA, jphat, etc.. are pessimist. Greg is an optimist. Probably the best optimist on soxtalk. (Melissa/kyyle is also right up there and Ranger needs to be around alittle longer to claim that title)

QUOTE (JDsDirtySox @ Feb 4, 2010 -> 11:00 PM) They still have Nick Punto/Brendan Harris playing third. Unless your the Yankees, every team is not strong in every spot.

Buehrle would consider retirement
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Feb 4, 2010 -> 09:00 PM) I think it's absurd that so many of you would consider him a fool for passing up an offer for more money. If the man decides to retire, I'm sure he's considered how much money he's already accumulated. The man has his own priorities, and he seems to have them straightened out pretty well. Mark Buehrle doesn't care about his career statistics or his chances at the Hall of Fame. He (probably) has more money than he, or his children, will ever need. He doesn't need to squeeze every last dime out of his playing career. I respect the hell out of him for that. Very good post MD. Hell we just heard of a top prospect pass up the opportunity to go to the big leagues and go into priesthood. (Yes I know it's not the same as a real big leaguer, but the end of the goal is) It isn't uncommon for athletes to walk away from the game early. If Mark wants to do that, then you have to respect that decision.

Orlando Hudson Signs With Twins
Holding out that our pitching can be lights out this year. (I.E. guys having career years in there as well) The Twins once again.. our biggest competition not to mention, I love their depth. Only question mark they have of course is the rotation. I think Liriano will be very good personally, but it's the back end we will see.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 4, 2010 -> 10:22 PM) Reminds me of the time a buddy was wearing gray sweat pants. He had the pockets pulled out, and I was like, why do you have those pulled out? He said "They're my elephant ears. Want to see the trunk?" Oh I am sooo using that one to some girls I know. Some of my Quagmire lines gets old.. not for them, but for me.

Relationship Advice Thread
QUOTE (iamshack @ Feb 4, 2010 -> 04:09 PM) Your opinions are almost on one side of the pendulum or the other...as if everything is always black or white, but never gray. Realize that a LOT of things are gray, especially when it comes to people, relationships, women, feelings, attitudes, etc. How old are you? 22? 23? I thought I knew a LOT when I was that age too...but you have to realize that as you grow as a person, you learn that you really didn't know as much as you thought you did... Ross is younger than that. And you weren't around during the glory threads from him (alot about subjects like this years ago). I still love ya Ross.

Relationship Advice Thread
QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Feb 3, 2010 -> 09:31 PM) Hmm I was just checkin in on my thread about the pizza place im opening up and say this soooooooo i figured why not get your opinions on this matter. So Im in love with my best friend, shes cool as hell like shes perfect for me, we listen to the same music, she likes watching sports, she likes just going out and playing basketball or just playing catch, when i met her mentally i was weak and shes made me stronger, we.ve been able to hang out damn near every night for the past 3 years and our convos never stop flowin, my family loves her, we used to play board games with my fam, and every night we give each other a hug and a kiss on the cheek and say i love you or ily. In the past 3 years ive not talked, texted, or IMd with her maybe a total of 30 days. She claims looks isnt big with her, and also she claims I am a good looking man, she claims its all about personality but yet she tells me i have a great personality... Problem obviously is shes not with me because i think there is obvious attraction there and yes i try to get with her....I havent been trying to get with anyone because i believe somethings gonna happen and it occured to me the other day that i havent had sex in over 2 years.......theres times where i just wanna be with someone but i almost feel like shes weighing me down BUT at the same time shes easily been the best friend ive ever had....what do i do??? When your business opens.. tell her to stop by, then I'll go over there and straighten her out. Funny thing is.. I might know her if shes a Hammond/Heggy/ES girl.

Official 2009-2010 NFL Thread
I don't mind getting a younger Josh Beekman at Center which he was drafted and groomed for. If that means Kreutz (and other guys old/still younger I.E. Hester) are gone for draft picks to help, then I would not mind at all. Of course that won't happen though. I gotta say I like the hire too, but what does this mean for Greg Olsen? In a Martz run offense, TE usually catch/see only about 40 balls receiving a season. (most of the time they are blocking in his scheme) I don't think Greg will be catching 60+ again next season, but hopefully it's enough to give him some touches since he is a very good match-up threat.

Bryce Harper
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Feb 1, 2010 -> 09:13 PM) The 2 things that bother me about his swing are the lunge and the toe-tap. The thing about the toe-tap is that it's currently helping him, but in the future it'll probably hurt him. Against inferior pitching, it's going to help prevent his hips from flying open (kind of counter-acting the lunge) since he basically shows the bottom of his foot to the pitcher, but when they bust him inside (which people now are probably scared to do), he'll have a much tougher time. Well thats what the minor leagues and the minor league hitting coaches are for. Perhaps to tweek his mechanics a bit. His swing doesn't bother me as much. (hell Alexei has that same toe-tap) This guy has been over hyped and it's not really fair for him. (besides me, daa, and a couple others here, noone knew about him from back then) He's an intriguing prospect, but as we all know he can also be one of the biggest bust. I've seen alot of prospects get over hyped over the years (some warranted, some not) but Bryce is probably one of, if not, the most over hyped.

Joe Mauer Signs for 10 years?
QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Feb 1, 2010 -> 04:25 PM) I would prefer that he left and went to the NL. Ditto. He'll be killing us for quite some time. But that is good for him and the Twins franchise to lock up a hometown and homegrown player. I still think they should had taken Mark Prior though.

QUOTE (bschmaranz @ Feb 1, 2010 -> 03:18 PM) Mauer... 10 year extension? Wow that would be huge for the Twins and their franchise, though it doesn't say how much he got paid yet. We'll found out later it seems.

Lovie got his man. http://twitter.com/BradBiggs/statuses/8512570281 "Mike Martz has been hired as the #Bears offensive coordinator" :lolhitting Funny thing is.. many people here called this hire even before the whole "interview process" thing.

QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jan 31, 2010 -> 09:58 PM) Wonder if they'd look to deal Iginla...not likely but damn I would love him on the Hawks. Burke is weaving some magic...Trades Two UFA's and 2 spare parts and steals Phaneuf PLUS Defensive prospect Aulie. Man.. traded alot of scoring depth that they had though. They are solid on defense (with some youth), but they literally have Phil Kessel and.... noone. Don't worry, they can tank and get a top 3 pick..... whoops... Boston has there pick. Probably the happiest team in the NHL right now.

Do I have a girl car?
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 31, 2010 -> 09:21 AM) There's no such thing as a girl car IMO. I would drive anything without feeling self conscious. Agreed. Going from point A to point B is all that matters nowadays. I'm not in high school anymore, so I'm not "showing off." I'm trying to go to work and pay bills. Though I'll admit now that I'm jobless.. but usually a couple of buddies of mine, who made fun of my car from back then, didn't even have a car so they can't talk or else they were not getting rides. But now that my ride (it was a Nissan Sentra btw) is gone, it's all moot.. I'd kill to have my car back right now instead of no car.

Relationship Advice Thread
QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jan 31, 2010 -> 06:39 PM) Here's the problem, as I interpret it -- she wants everything to go her way, even at your expense. She wants to pursue this other dufus, meanwhile, have you as a safety net if the relationship never works out. There's a saying that women are like monkeys, in that they'll never let go of one branch until the other is secure. I notice people, when seeking relationship advice, often believe their situation is unique, and maybe if we knew the nuances of their relationship we'd think differently. Breakup scenarios are always different, but people are fundamentally the same. I know you haven't said as much Wite, but keep in mind (in case you are thinking this way), that she dumped you. In your original post, it's almost as if you're blaming yourself for the breakup because you were a piece of s*** and not participating in extracurricular activities. This is where people may reply, "well, it goes beyond that, there are many other things I did," but all you're doing is putting the blame on yourself. She knew when she began dating you, two years ago, the type of person you were. You're in college, for christs sake. It's a convenient excuse, but I have a feeling no matter what you would have done with your life she would have looked elsewhere. Hell, for all you know this other guy is a complete bum. Think of all the pieces of s*** out there who are dating someone with no job, no career aspirations, nothing really to wake up for. Also, consider this -- she dumped you because you weren't involved enough in the world for her liking, in addition to being a piece of s***; as you put it. If she thinks this way, what would happen five years in the future if say you're laid off from your job? Would you worry that she'd leave you, or that she'd supportive? I suppose it doesn't matter, really, because I just think this whole 'getting your life straightened out' is crap and she's at the age where the pastor is greener in the single life. Wite, the most important issue here is that you can't let her know she can run back and forth between other guys and you, and that you'll always be there. I've always made it very clear that I don't do 'breaks' or give 'second chances.' One girl I was considering dating actually argued with me about this rule, and I told her thanks for saving me a lot of time; goodbye. To this day I still will receive random text messages from her asking what I'm doing tonight, or we should hang out. I can be a complete asshole, but I don't let women walk over me. If you told you girl tomorrow, "if you ever try this again, I won't be there waiting," and she flips out, consider it a sign that it's still on her mind and that you're bound to go through the same heartache again. Now this is a post with someone with relationship experience. Couldn't have said it any better myself though I'll admit I'm not as much of an asshole as Tizz (so the last paragraph, I would do it alittle differently.)

Neyer projects Sox as AL Central champs
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jan 31, 2010 -> 01:35 AM) And also have the best 1-2 punch in baseball with Felix Hernandez and Cliff Lee. Not a stretch to say at all (can't really argue it per say), but I wouldn't say "best" quite yet. Though most would say Carpenter and Wainwright cause of last year and the "what have you done for me lately" thing, but for me personally... it's the two kids in SF I'm taking (Lincecum and Cain) till proven otherwise and you can even say Hamels and Halliday (especially moving to the NL) are up there as well. I expect my boy Cole to rebound nicely in 2010.
