Parting shots from Maggs
QUOTE(Beastly @ Feb 7, 2005 -> 12:00 PM) All you guys aren't thinking of what he did when he was here. So he signed with another team? We got Dye to replace him, who is a gamble yet, a lot more versatile. I will cheer when he comes back to Chicago. It's easy to turn on someone when they go ahead and turn on you. It's like your dog that you raised biting your hand while feeding him, running to your neighbors, and viciously barking at you every time you walk past his fence. Maggs- :finger

Like it or not...
QUOTE(Al Lopez's Ghost @ Feb 4, 2005 -> 12:15 PM) Patterson is rated higher than Posednik because of his potential, but they ignore potential when looking at Iguchi vs. Walker, who by the way cannot turn a double play. Rowand is defensive minded. This is the world's greatest newspaper? Well, they make a great fish wrapper and bird cage liner. Exactly, I found it amusing with Walker too, who is the worst DP second basmean in the league. Although this struck me as well, Patterson rates ahead of Posednik (which we already described as faulty comparison based on position) because of potential, yet until AJ proves he can overcome be bad, bad boy, Barret will rank ahead of him? Can anyone say inconsistent?

Rumors thread
QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Feb 2, 2005 -> 11:18 PM) Be rest assured the SOX will not be the only team looking at Sheets. Just about every club with some $ to spend will be. All of the SOX starters are signed to reasonable contracts so the SOX should have the advantage there. But don't be surprised if it takes Mark or Freddy to land Sheets. Milw will not likely trade him w/out getting at least a #2 in return. The only exception I could see to that is if 1 of Hernandez, Contreras, or Garland is having a great 1/2 half. That might be enough to build a trade around w prospects. That would be sweet. I think Garland, Anderson, and McCarthy would probably get it done, and possibly a throw in. Cheap talent is the key, and that fits the bill. Would we be willing to give up those players for Sheets? My guess is most would say yes, and I'm certain KW would say yes. Although I would love to hang on to the prospects, a chance at getting Sheets is just too overpowering, especially if we're in contention. However, I would have to be certain that we'd be able to get a three year deal out of him in order to pull the trigger.

Bullpen Article
QUOTE(chimpy2121 @ Feb 1, 2005 -> 09:01 PM) Little bit of a shameless plug right here: http://www.nysportsday.com/news/chicago/1107249178.html Its nothing to big or elaborate. Something for the more casual fan, not for all you experts on the board. Hope you enjoy. Where's the articles for experts?

Everett's offseason
QUOTE(YASNY @ Feb 1, 2005 -> 07:58 AM) I hate when people throw this steroid stuff around so quickly. The moodiness question .... He had that one year in Boston, other that he's been totally professional. That was a Boston spin job. And the weight? Hell, everyone could see he needed to drop 15 pounds. We'd all be b****ing if he hadn't dropped the weight. He looked fit at Sox Fest and ready to go. He was overweight last year, so he lost fat weight, not muscle. (agreeing with you)

ESPN's Rob Neyer's Top Ten LEAST improved teams
QUOTE(quickman @ Feb 1, 2005 -> 01:35 AM) Ok so you are agreeing with me that they don't have anyone that can spot start and make a difference? Your like switzerland. Why can't Hermanson spot start if needed?

Everett a fit for the Cubs?
It has been mentioned that Everett will lose his value once Frank comes back. I like Frank, and I hope he comes back strong. However, the Sox, if they want to be a contender, must be prepared for the reality that he may not come back and automatically be productive. No ST or live major league pitching, and he may be a little rusty. Also the injury factor, Everett will have value to this team throughout the duration of the season IMO.

Rumor: Sox & Dodgers talking trade
QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Jan 31, 2005 -> 12:13 AM) How about a three way deal with the Angels? Dodgers get Crede, Angels get Weaver, Sox get Chone Figgins. Don't know about the Dodgers or Angels, but I'd do it in a heartbeat. I don't think they would either, but ya, I'd do that.

Everett a fit for the Cubs?
QUOTE(beck72 @ Jan 30, 2005 -> 09:17 PM) This has nothing to do with talent. It has to do with who's a better fit on the bench, being versatile, playing positions, getting AB's etc. Everett could be pounding the ball. But where would Pods play? Rowand? Dye? These 3 are all signed to 2 yr + deals. Carl isn't. If we deal Everett, it makes more sense to do so at the trade deadline.

Everett a fit for the Cubs?
QUOTE(beck72 @ Jan 30, 2005 -> 04:31 PM) The sox got nice production w/ PK at DH and Gload at 1B. The key is how long do the sox need Carl at DH. If a month and a half or less, he's extra weight [no pun intended ] It's not that PK can't DH, it's that he doesn't want to. If he was somehow convinced to do it, then fine, but it doesn't appear likely.
-
Everett a fit for the Cubs?
Everett certainly is needed with Frank out of the lineup. Moving PK to DH isn't going to do us any favors in the hope to resign him at a fair price. He wants to play first base, and he plays it pretty well. I too believe Gload could handle the duties, but for now, I don't mind keeping him in the role much like last year. If we need him to be more, we'll still have that option. However, for now, Everett serves a need.

Pod's or Hairston?
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jan 30, 2005 -> 02:07 AM) I'm with you 100 percent on this one, I think the stolen base is more underrated then overrated. Not to mention the pressure it puts on opposing pitchers, and the amount of fastballs that become for frequent.

Maggs Update; Tigers are Close
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jan 30, 2005 -> 12:03 AM) Sorry Hanky, but thats the WRONG way to think. You and I both know a healthy Maggs can be a monster. So your saying you would rather Maggs go to Detriot for the next 7 years and play us 19 times a year, then go to the Northside who we play 3 times a year???? If he's healthy. That's one spacious outfield if he's not, not to mention the offense he'll lose by being there. Very good player, but I'm indifferent to whereever he goes. The Sox will be fine either way. Remember, Detroit can beat up on the Twins as well.

Harris: 'I'm not ruling myself out'
QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 29, 2005 -> 05:54 PM) I hope every guy on the bench thinks he should be starting and busts his ass to prove it. Guys that "understand" their role as backups and benchmates are losers. There's a difference to not having confidence to be able to play the position every day and wanting to win bad enough that you are willing to make personal sacrifices for the team.

Harris: 'I'm not ruling myself out'
QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Jan 29, 2005 -> 05:22 PM) Id rather stab myself in the eye 1million times than keep Timo Perez over Harris. If Harris is moved before Timo, than it is a personal decision, not a statistical one. I dont think Harris will be moved as fast as many seem to think, KW's statements recently seem to be suggesting that they want Harris to step things up and make the team. Also, we arent going to get a utility infielder even close to Harris's quality, and that is considering he doesnt play 3b or SS. SB Timo = clutch Willie = not

Willie Harris Article
QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Jan 28, 2005 -> 02:18 PM) IMO this team would be much better with Willie off the bench then Timo. It would also give us more flexibility because he gives us a 2B and an OF. However Timo wouldn't be traded unless he got caught pissing in KW cereal and even then it's kind of iffy (because they love him so much for some damn reason). I'd much rather have Willie able to step in and become the new CF if and when Pods or Iguchi fails. Timo should be traded.... Sadly Harris will be traded... Timo is liked because he's clutch, has a team first approach to the game, and doesn't b**** or smoke cigs. Willie has some growing up to do. Despite his talent, he doesn't fit the mold as far as attitude we're striving to acheive.

He already said he wants to stay on the Sox, and isn't looking to break the bank.

Did Anyone here
QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 02:11 AM) The problem is it leaves us with NO LONG MAN! Not to mention Marte being the only lefty. Like I said no thanks. Plus too much mystery surrounding his poor mom. Doesn't necessarily need to be Urbina. Besides, maybe they'd be willing to have Hermanson be the long man, and also relieve. It's not like we should need a long man that often this year. If anything we could have a couple of the guys go a couple innings each. I'm not speculating, or even care what they do with the pen, because I'm more than satisfied as it stands. However, if they decide to go that route, that's fine too.

Did Anyone here
QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 02:04 AM) I just don't think we need any more pen arms. UIF or bust! No need, but if Harris nets us another reliable arm, why not? We need a UIF regardless.
-
Did Anyone here
QUOTE(JDsDirtySox @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 12:56 AM) I know that Ozzie and Urbina are tight, and I am sure Urbina would love to play for him. I also know that Bruce Levine is speculating that the Sox are looking to deal Harris to add to their bullpen. Levine seems to believe the Sox want to trade Harris for bullpen help, then turn around and sign a Utility IF. If this happens, it just means one less man is making the bullpen whether it is 6 or 7 guys out there. Bullpen help? Wow, we are going to have some sick pen. Adkins and Cotts, IMO, did pretty well for first year guys, and probably will improve this year. However, having either them (more likely Adkins because of the amount of righties we have)in AAA, and ready to be called upon for whatever reason throughout the year makes me feel warm inside.

Kenny's Report Card
QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 08:30 PM) IMO yes. Until he shows that he has a plan to get Willie off the roster (since he hurts us being on the bench). Does he hurt us to the point that KW deserves a C- for the entire offseason? IYO yes, in reality, no.

Iguchi News
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 17, 2005 -> 04:17 PM) After listening to Hawk and Ozzie slam him right in front of his face, I am glad to still see he has some confidence left. They could be crushing this kid, they need to be building him up instead. Willie also said he would run down Michigan Ave naked if he hit .325 next season. Then he bummed a smoke right after.

Ed Farmer
That's too bad it wasn't that great. Last years seminar was really good. It had Rowand, Wunsch, and Olivo with wives. It ended up being pretty funny.

Ozzie: Lee didn't retaliate, got shipped out
QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jan 17, 2005 -> 04:49 PM) Alright, I can see that. But Oz can't blame Carlos when he just sat on his ass and didn't have his pitcher hit anyone... See what I'm saying? That was Ozzie's point. If the players were upset about what happened, go out and do something about it. You don't have to be told, you have the green light.

Guillen shapes new-look White Sox in his image
I'm fine with Uribe at number 2, but I would like to see Rowand 3 or 5 then. Rowand would be in a better spot to drive in runs. Something to keep in mind, with Pods on first, Uribe is bound to see a lot of fastballs, something he's proven he can pound. Plus the fact that he can bunt pretty well.
