Joe certainly still has an opportunity to have some good major league seasons in his future. Although with the Sox, very deep with outfielders now and in the future, probably don't need Borchard. I like the guy, but it probably makes sense for both parties to explore other options. That is to say if we get quality return, which doesn't necessarily mean blockbuster. Rather something the Sox could value down the line.

Alex Escobar - OF - WAS Nationals acquired outfielder Alex Escobar from the White Sox for outfielder Jerry Owens. Ridiculous. Jim Bowden, forever obsessed with toolsy outfielders, never could get Escobar while he was with the Reds. Now he has him, but there's absolutely no place for him on the roster and he's out of options. If this were a free pickup, then we wouldn't have much of a problem with it, but in trading Owens, a 2003 second-round pick, he's surrendering one of the few position player prospects the Nationals have. However, I would have to be certain that we'd be able to get a three year deal out of him in order to pull the trigger.

It has been mentioned that Everett will lose his value once Frank comes back. I like Frank, and I hope he comes back strong. However, the Sox, if they want to be a contender, must be prepared for the reality that he may not come back and automatically be productive. No ST or live major league pitching, and he may be a little rusty. Also the injury factor, Everett will have value to this team throughout the duration of the season IMO.
