Garnett to Boston?
Adding KG to a team that already had Pierce/Allen automatically makes the Celtics a contender by eastern conference standards. All one has to do is look at last year's Cavs. Argubly the lousiest team to ever make the finals. The Celtics still need to add another player or two. I know they've still got the full MLE.

Darwin Walker Traded to Bears
Angelo strikes again...The depth we have on D this year is unreal. Let's just pray we can stay relatively healthy (no season-ending injuries) and get some good years from Brown and Wale. Both those guys played below expectations, IMO, last year.

Construction started on the Chicago Spire
Damn! I knew about the Spire; I didn't know about all these other skyscrapers in construction. Looks like the ones mentioned, outside of the Spire, should be done around the time the International Olympic Committee determines if we get the games or not. That should only help our cause. Man, the Chitown skyline is going to be beyond amazing by the time they finish the Spire.

7/12 Games
QUOTE(103 mph screwball @ Jul 13, 2007 -> 10:31 AM) I hope he was working on a pitch. Ouch. Sisco is hot garbage. I know it's easy to say now, but I wish we had kept Gload.

White Sox Winner!
Anyone think Javy has finally figured it out? He's been really good going back to last August. That's about 27 or 28 starts. Anyway, this is easily his best stretch since 2003, or atleast the first half of 2004.

Mark Buehrle Agrees to 4-yr, 56 mil with escalator clause
It's nice to get some good news in what otherwise has been a very dark White Sox season.

White Sox vs. Orioles, 7/02/07 (L)

Pods to be placed on DL
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 09:44 PM) Neither is wood or Prior. I wouldnt bet a season on those two anchoring my starting rotation, and we shouldnt bet the season on Erstad or Pods being healthy and being the 1-2 punch in the lineup. Fair enough. Now explain to me why we have to make fun of or bash Pods for getting hurt? That's all I'm saying.

Pods to be placed on DL
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 08:33 PM) Bad luck is a broken leg because of a foul ball, or a hit by a pitch. Scott has strained every muscle than we use on a day to day basis. He is made of glass. You can call it whatever you want. It's not like the guy is out there trying to get hurt.
-
Pods to be placed on DL
Well, unlike the rest of the Soxtalk crew, I'm not going to bash or make fun of a guy that's had a lot of bad luck in the injury department. It's unfortunate. I'm sure he won't be back next season.

Barry Lamar Bonds
Barry Bonds is the greatest player ever. Yes, I said it. I don't care if he cheated. EVERYBODY, except Frank Thomas, cheated. He's, what, 44 or something? And he's still dominating.

Official 2006-2007 NBA Discussion Thread
I curse Michael for taking Wright just before us! Just kidding. Anyway, I'm not 'crazy' about Noah. But he was, IMO, the best player left. He's got obvious strengths, to go along with obvious weaknesses. I promised myself after the 2003 draft (I hated the Hinrich pick at the time) that I would always give a drafted player a chance before I truly judge him. So for now, welcome to Chicago, Joakim! Aaron Gray Reminds me of Baby Huey.

500 for The Big Hurt
QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 05:37 PM) ESPN did a nice little piece on him. We were lucky to witness some of the things he accomplished here; it's amazing hearing the names his numbers are compared to. It was almost like time stopped when he came to bat. Remember that Jordan commercial "Frozen Moment"? Everybody just stopped whatever they were doing when they saw Mike on the TV. I felt the exact same way about Frank. Especially during the years of 1991-1994.

500 for The Big Hurt
Frank! Congratulations to the best all-around hitter I've ever gotten a chance to see personally since I became a baseball fan. Well done big man! QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 02:28 PM) I gotta bust this out again... Thank you for my new wallpaper.

Buehrle or Garland
You could make the argument that Garland has been the better pitcher since 2005. However, Mark has been doing his thing since 2001 (save last year's horrid second half).

White Sox winner
It's a shame it's come to the point that we have to mock our wins. Shame, shame, shame...

White Sox winner
We picked up a game on Detroit!

I think I say this on behalf of most of the people here...
QUOTE(Drew @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 03:17 AM) Thank you for '05, Kenny Williams Thank you for this great and awful crew... That's my feeling. Kenny was the 2005 MVP as far as I'm concerned. 2007? He takes, IMO, the most blame for what's happened.

And that's pretty much a White Sox season...
Personally, I have to go back to the mid 90's the last time I was this disgusted, appalled, ashamed, or whatever word you to use, with a White Sox team. Even in recent years, save 2005, when we came up short, the games were still fun and entertaining. I know we've been saying it for a while now. But after getting swept by the Cubs, something MASSIVE has to happen. Enough is enough. No waiting for guys to 'turn it around.' No waiting for injured players to come back. That's it. Let's all pray the demolition starts Monday. God I'm so ashamed. Is this what Cub fans go through every year? I have a new respect for them.

Ozzie extension rumor
QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 03:41 PM) So what we're saying is that when he gets a pitching staff full of guys having career years (starters and bullpen), he can lead them to the championship? Well, that's great....and I'll gladly keep Ozzie around if we can guarantee having 4 relievers who are basically perfect. However, that was an anomaly that season, and for almost a year now, the Sox have seemed very flat and lethargic. Ozzie's going to have a few years now of young players and being in a position where we're not expected to win over 77 games or so. I just hope he has a lot more patience with the young guys than he's shown. I'm through rooting for him to get fired, as the comments in the media, as stupid as they are, show that he's not going to be the scapegoat. I get so sick of that argument. Out of the starters, only Garland had a career year. Contreras? He had started less than 40 games before 2005. So it's not like he had 3 or 4 mediocre years then blew up in 2005. The 'pen? Yeah, Cotts and Pollite both had career years. And you can throw Hermanson in there as well, atleast until his back fell off. But let's not forget how bad guys like Shingo/Marte/Vizcaino were. And you also fail to mention how brilliantly Ozzie handled Bobby Jenks that year. Again, no manager could win with this old, slow, unathletic group. Guys are breaking down left and right. Minor leaguers, outside of Fields, that have produced nothing. Established, proven guys sucking a fat one all year. Ozzie is the least of this team's problems.

White Sox vs. Cubs, 6/23/07 (L)
QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 03:34 PM) The Cubs have all the talent in the world....we should just be thankful they've struggled in close games. However, two of our biggest issues have been relief and bench play, and they have very good talent at both those positions. Please tell me you didn't waste your only post in this thread to try and say that D. Ward/Pagan isn't a huge upgrade over anyone we have on the bench. You've been slurping the Cubs for quite some time now. If I didn't know anything about baseball, and if I were just to go by what you say, I would think they were in first place by 15 games or so. The Cubs are a bad team in an even more bad division. Are they as bad as us? No. But they're still bad.
