With all of the purported leaks yesterday, there was almost nothing regarding the Sox. Either the Sox are operating below the radar, or they haven't been serious from the beginning. I'm believing the former, of course. I just hope we hear something...maybe from one of our trusted insiders.

Good point. Maybe if he signs a deal worth $40M a year somewhere else, the first reaction might be "good thing it wasn't with the Sox", but he's probably worth that. a couple years down the road, things could look different, but who knows.

If we end up hearing that, we'll be calling for Hahn's head.

What would be that "breaking point" of a bad deal? If Machado ends of signing with the Padres (which I doubt), what's the deal that we say, "Thank God we didn't pay that."?

I tend to believe this, too. It's hard to imagine that Manny hasn't made up his mind or at least he's pretty certain and waiting on the money/years to be there. And if he knows, then Yonder knows.

And to add a layer, he's saying whoever told him is either a nobody or someone who wouldn't/shouldn't know.

Why do we keep seeing articles and reporters talking about the Sox being a sleeper to land one of Machado/Harper? It's been known all off season that the Sox were going to be serious about this.

This isn't all on the teams. We don't know what the offers have truly been, and we won't know until after they sign. Even then we may not know what all of the offers were. For Machado, there are only a handful of teams that A) need a player like him, and B) can spend the money. There's little competition, and the $300M offers aren't coming as he had hoped. He'll end up "settling" for a 7-8 year deal worth a little more than $30M per year. Free agency needs to be fixed for sure, but this problem exists because of both sides.

So, the White Sox have made an offer to Machado...maybe. And they may have offered 7 years, or 8 years, or maybe more or less than the assumed years. The offer (if it exists), could be worth $175M, $250M, or another number in the millions more or less than the other reported millions. In other news, a message board of Sox fans is ready to throw their collective computers/phones through a wall.

This has been an extremely frustrating off season. You have to figure that the signing of a lot of the other free agents out there won't happen until Harper and Machado do. With pitchers and catchers reporting this week, there are still some valuable arms out there unsigned. You'd have to think (hope) that something happens this week.
