I enjoy this team
QUOTE (Reddy @ Apr 23, 2012 -> 07:12 AM) I'd honestly pay him $6 million. I think he's one of the most valuable catchers in the league. He's never hurt, calls a great game, and gives you an offensive spark now and again (like right now). He's been THE most durable catcher in the league for the last DECADE That alone is worth $6MM I'd like to see him extended for another year or two. I'm not sure Flowers is ready...offensively anyway. And he may never be, we'll have to wait and see. I'd like to see AJ retire as a Sox.

I enjoy this team
QUOTE (ptatc @ Apr 22, 2012 -> 10:55 PM) I think they do respect his baseball abilities, as do I. But the original comment was that "they like him and respect him." This is not the case. I think trusting his abilities is accurate as well. How do you know that? I haven't heard any teammate of AJ say they don't like him.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 19, 2012 -> 09:35 AM) Daryl Van Schouwen @CST_soxvan O's@Sox, 1:10; De Aza CF, Lillibridge 3B, Dunn 1B, Konerko DH, Rios RF, Ramirez SS, Viciedo LF, Flowers C, Escobar 2B; Floyd vs. Hammel I like that Dunn is seeing more time in the field than he did last year. Not necessarily due to his defense but allowing Konerko to get some rest...and hopefully the playing in the field will help Dunn's hitting.

Okay, let's keep it going. Floyd needs to man up and pitch well today. A series split after a disatrous opener would be okay.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!
What the hell is going on with AJ? Offensive juggernaut and throwing people out? He better be careful or the Sox are going to give him an extension. Dunn looked better. That double to the opposite field was awesome. It was funny to see no one out there. One camera angle made it look like the outfield was empty. Shift be damned! What else can be said about Peavy. He has looked great all season, and his last two starts have been dominant. Is he back? Let's hope.

2012 Book Thread
QUOTE (JPN366 @ Apr 18, 2012 -> 01:19 PM) I'll go to 99 cents, but that's my limit. The only book I've paid full price for was Out Of My League by Dirk Hayhurst. I have 370+ books on my Kindle and I've spent maybe a grand total of $20 to fill it. There's plenty of good free stuff on Amazon. I usually look for $2.99 and less. I got a $50 gift card for my birthday last year, and even after paying full price for 11/22/63, I think I bought another 15 books and still had money left over to buy the hardcover edition of Catching Fire. There are some great books for free of less than $3.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Apr 18, 2012 -> 03:15 PM) We should be thinking of the long haul. Cn we compete all season long? You don't know that two weeks into the season. We lost three games in a row. OK,but we have 152 left. Let's give the struggling players a chance to turn it around I agree, but look at what we're seeing. It's like the beginning of last year again. Dunn is struggling, Rios is struggling (although he looks better so far), the closer blew a save followed by a mega-meltdown of the bullpen, Danks has one bad inning and the offense can't answer... It's scary.

Addressing the Offensive Short Comings
QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 18, 2012 -> 08:40 AM) Don't look now, but Alex has a 5 game hitting streak...baby steps... I'm actually feeling better about Rios right now than Dunn. Aside from the first game, Dunn looks lost at the plate again. Rios looks better than last year, although not as good as he should look.

Okay, I'll give it a shot. The Sox have to take this one. Jake "I party with fat guys" Peavy is taking the mound to face the Orioles and Tommy Hunter. The game starts at 7:10 and ends with a White Sox win. Tune into CSN.

Adam Dunn is not done
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 18, 2012 -> 07:50 AM) Can't speak to whether Adam Dunn's strength is still where it was, but the Orioles announcers and replay made it painfully obvious last night that he's not close to timing anything, and that's his biggest problem right now. His swing starts way too late on the fastball and he's way out in front of anything offspeed. I would imagine his strength is still there...that's a big dude. But I saw the same thing with his swing. It doesn't look like he's missing the ball by a foot but rather just mis-timing his swing. His swings on breaking balls look atrocious, almost like he recognizes he's swung too early and tries to slow down.

2012 White Sox Catch-All thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 18, 2012 -> 07:48 AM) Great...attendance talk. Stop caring about attendance. The team barely does at this point. They cut $25 million from the payroll of a profitable team last year anticipating an attendance drop. Rebuild and then get to a point where games are won. Yeah, I don't get the attendance talk either. As you said, they already cut payroll, and with a sorta-rebuild going on, I don't think they are overly concerned about the attendance right now. We as fans should care even less. More asses in the seats are not going to make the team play better.

Adam Dunn is not done
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 17, 2012 -> 11:19 PM) “I can no hit curve ball. Straight ball I hit it very much. Curve ball, bats are afraid.” Maybe the Sox need to let him sacrifice a chicken or goat or cow.

Addressing the Offensive Short Comings
I keep seeing posts recommending benching this guy, and calling up that guy, and platooning these guys. I'm as frustrated as the next guy with the way this team is hitting (or not hitting). But platooning Morel and McPherson or Dunn and Lillibridge or Fat Guy #1 and Skinny Guy #3 is not going to happen. Morel should be given a chance but lower in the lineup. Beckham might need a AAA stint. Dunn needs to just start hitting the damn ball, I don't care if it's mental or physical or spiritual. He's gotta get his s*** together. Someone else mentioned that benching the likes of Rios and Dunn does nothing, and I agree. There is absolutely zero chance anyone will trade for either of them if they spend 50% of their time warming a corner of the bench. There will at least be a slight chance if they play most of the time and actually start hitting the ball a bit. I'm officially concerned about this season now, and I think that's only because I had higher hopes than a lot of people. But I keep telling myself that it's been 10 games. 152 more to go. I just hope in a month we're not saying the same things about the hitting on this team. Because by then it will most likely be very concerning.

Game Thread: BAL @ CHW, 4/17, 7:10pm
QUOTE (black jack @ Apr 17, 2012 -> 03:47 PM) I was ready to come online to proclaim my love for this team when it fell apart. Last night felt just like an old "grinder" type of win. Just good enough to get guys out and taking advantage of mistakes. Still kind of shocked on the three late homers. Oh well, let's get back in the win column. As the team was one out away from a win, I was thinking very positively for exactly this reason. Humber battled and the offense took advantage of some Baltimore mistakes. The last 1.1 innings made the whole game feel bad.

2012 Films Thread
Finally saw The Hunger Games this weekend. I thought it was well done and followed the book pretty well. There were a few things left out that seemed like they were important in Catching Fire, so we'll see how they handle that in the movie. One thing was the tighter connection between Katniss and District 11. They touched on that a bit, but the bread being sent by District 11 I thought was pretty important. And I agree about Woody Harrelson. He did a good job, and now as I'm reading Catching Fire I see him whenever Haymitch is in the scene.

2012 White Sox Catch-All thread
Winning tonight and at a minimum splitting the series will do a lot to calm the nerves of SoxTalk nation. I watched last night's game (as much as I could stomach), and turned it off thinking " here we go again". The one spot that has been doing a consistently good job (the bullpen) imploded, and it just reminded me of the multitude of late inning losses from last year. I'm still hopeful, and I still have faith, but losing this series to Baltimore is going to make me (and many others I'm sure) think it's 2011 all over again.

Paul Konerko
When he scored on that triple by AJ the other day, I couldn't believe how slow he was running. It looked like he was jogging, but he was going as fast as he could.
-
Interesting Stat for AJ
I like AJ and always have. He still manages to get under the skin of the opposition, and he seems to be getting better with the bat with age. True, his ability to throw out runners is lacking, but that would probably be my only complaint about him. Having the same guy behind the plate for such a long time has helped the pitching staff.
