QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 28, 2008 -> 08:34 PM) I'm just going to say very quickly that I don't understand how Gavin Floyd was "stolen." He had fallen out of favor in Philadelphia and was included with a talented pitcher who had stunk in AA the year before for a pitcher who had thrown 200+ innings the previous 6 years, had World Series experience, and was coming off a solid season. Perhaps KW knew he was injured and he dealt him for chump change, but that's more than a bit unethical as it is. KW traded Freddy Garcia for the best package he felt he had on the table, and Gavin Floyd was a highly valued commodity coming back to the White Sox. Carlos Quentin and Bobby Jenks were stolen much moreso than Gavin Floyd was. The Sox gave up an A-ball slugger and a 40-man roster spot respectively for the aforementioned; compare that with a guy who helped the White Sox win a World Series. You tell me who was more stolen. Lol why are you letting such a small thing bug you? I think what people mean is most people thought Gio was the main piece of that trade while Floyd more of a throw in, and Floyd turned out fullfilling his potential this season. End of the day, we got a good starter for a junk pitcher... and anyone watching Garcia that season especially at the end knew he was throwing junk.

Well assuming another 2B isnt brought in whether through trade or f/a it probably will be an open battle between Nix/Getz. I think both can be effective players, always was a fan of his brother laynce nix even though he seemingly isnt ever going to be a starter.

Official 2008-2009 NBA Thread

So far free throw shooting is still a problem, our defense started off strong and than definitely broke down as the quarter continued on. Also, we have made plenty of silly turnovers and these refs have been brutal. -
What do we spend our money on this off-season?

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Oct 26, 2008 -> 03:02 PM) Hudson is had Tommy John surgery this year, no? Its more the exception if you look at the pitchers he has dumped or let walk Zito has been more than a dud in SF Mulder is just about out of baseball Harden cant pitch more than 3 games in a row without arm issues Koch completely fell apart Blanton certainly wasnt the pitcher the Phillies thought they were going to be getting, although he has been serviceable Street really was getting lit up like a Christmas tree this year until he was put into a setup role like Kalapse said How about Haren, he has been successful too, and blanton had an era near 5 his last season in oakland so he actually improved a little. -
QUOTE (wilmot825 @ Oct 26, 2008 -> 01:10 AM) He can only play once every 3 days...No thanks If he was brought in as a 4th OF I would be opposed to it. Would be a nice bat off the bench, Id have no problem with him and Brian Anderson as bench players or if Anderson is gone than Cook maybe.

QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Oct 24, 2008 -> 02:43 PM) Vaughn ate his way out of baseball, that's what I meant rather than a numbers comparison. Im pretty sure Fielder became a vegetarrian or vegan even going into this season. Your reasoning definitely is lacking here lol. Plenty of fat successful players.

I think way too many people cried during sports movies lol. I definitely shed a tear in Shawshank Redemption when the old man hangs himself. The Green Mile like previously mentioned was tear worthy. One movie that always has me shedding a few tears by the end is Bicentennial Man.

2008 World Series - Philadelphia Phillies vs. Tampa Bay Rays

QUOTE (Sox It To Em @ Oct 20, 2008 -> 08:41 PM) I will be rooting for the Phillies, simply because Jamie Moyer is one of my favorite non-Sox players and he has not won a ring. Plus, I just can't root for the Rays (bandwagon fans, dome, cowbells, etc.). I generally don't root for the National League team, but I'm making an exception this year. Same can be said for the whitesox by outsiders. Anyways Im an AL fan and since its not the redsox/yankees Im rooting for the Rays. I prob wont spend too much time watching the games though that being said. -
QUOTE (kapkomet @ Oct 19, 2008 -> 08:25 AM) See also: "The Democrat Thread" re: the GOP. It's the exact same thing, so I would say that most of the posts lately have been "pointless". Lol well if its the same type of stuff in this thread it is. But, when did 2 wrongs make a right in anything besides math.
-
I think he will stay in the NL, he obviously prefers that style. Weaker lineups and he gets to hit. Dodgers definitely could be major players with Lowe/furcal/Manny coming off the books.
-
This seems like a pointless thread only to create trouble. All it proves is there are a bunch of crazy people in the world. If you want to create a thread using an example of democrats in a political position acting out go ahead, that would prove your point more.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 18, 2008 -> 07:18 AM) I didn't realize Mark Wahlberg posted in here. Because I think an SNL skit is dumb, besides the Palin stuff SNL is horrible now anyways.
-
Id only like him as a DH, and since Thome is better and we are pretty much stuck with him.... Griffey doesnt really have a place on this team.
-
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 17, 2008 -> 11:18 PM) Jeez talk about overreacting. Wahlberg is now not as cool as he was a week ago. Wahlberg is forever cool. If they had done a skit that made sense instead of him talking to animals, it might have been actually funny.

Without a doubt its A-Rod, he can play close to gold glove defense at 3B.. was a gold glover at SS. He can still steal a base for you at a very efficient rate, younger, more power, and dont have all the stupid antics you get with Manny. Not to say A-Rod doesnt come with some baggage, but far less so than that of Manny.

Remember Keith Law's preseason report on Floyd?

I was always a big Floyd fan, the pre-season cooled me off a little but I loved the trade that brought him over immediately. -

I wonder what they do with Edwin Jackson next year, do they trade him in a package for a DH/RF or have him in long relief. I cant imagine Sonnanstine losing his rotation spot after what he has shown in playoffs and Price has to be a starter. It's scary that they can be a better team next season. -
if the price was low I wouldnt mind having Teahen as a stopgab at 3B, but only if the price was relatively low.

QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Oct 13, 2008 -> 04:05 AM) you guys think swisher could ever be a .280/.390/.850 40/100 guy in a sox uniform at 1B? If Swisher hits .280 id imagine his OBP would be above .400. I think he has the skills to have such a season, but I do not think it will happen. Who knows though, avg. ballplayers transform into allstars all the time.

someone needs to get fired on the defensive side of the ball. All game they convert on 3rd and longs and than this, when the game was all but over. Also what the hell was Turner thinking running McKie on the goal-line, he has only sucked the whole season. -
4 players that went home AFTER getting to Tampa
GoodAsGould replied to klaus kinski's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I was more than satisfied with the production Dotel gave us. If everyone stays healthy next season and we add Richard to the pen, it will definitely be a strength of ours. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 10, 2008 -> 11:44 PM) I respect the Swish lovers standing by their guy. But I wish they'd realize the "bad luck" argument is stupid. He had enough at bats to overcome "bad luck" on balls being hard hit but at people. The bottom line is Ozzie pretty much gave up on the guy and Oz is our manager. Im not a Swish lover I just posted stats to support he wasnt as bad as you "Swish Haters" think he was. While I love Ozzie its not like he doesnt make some questionable decisions at times, too much Griffey in CF and Wise(although he did well) in playoffs. Not too mention sometimes making a shaky lineup and obviously leaving in pitchers too long at times or over-managing at others etc.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 10, 2008 -> 10:44 PM) Yes players are capable of bouncing back after bad years. But Swisher truly sucked. If he would have played like the guy everybody thought we were getting it would have severely lessened the loss of CQ. But he sucked so bad Ozzie wouldn't even play him down the stretch. Maybe he can bounce back. But he truly sucked. He was as bad as Paulie and Paulie got roasted on here; Swish got manlove. Wow, a little overuse of the word sucked? He definitely didnt play well or anywhere near capable of what he is able to do, but 24 HR's is still fairly good out of a CF. He also was able to still walk 82 times and ended up with an OBP above that of Alexi, who everyone loves. Also its been well documented that he had terribly bad luck with linedrive outs. He wasn't as bad as some of you try and create him to be.

Dice K has been pretty amazing this season and suprisingly not as hyped as you would think given the numbers.
