ESPN radio reporting Mets/White Sox talks heating up...

QUOTE (Texsox @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 04:18 PM) How often have we read other teams boards and thought, the fans are f***ing nuts, no way the Sox would accept that. And I'm certain they look at ours and think the same thing sometimes. Well at the same time if people just nitpicked certain posters trade proposals on this forum I would bet other fanbases think that whitesox fans are nuts. Bottom line though Pelfrey is coming off an avg. year while he greatly struggled last and Martinez is just a prospect. While they would be receiving a proven closer, under contract for a few more years still and a veteran SP that prob will put up a similar era to Pelfrey in the NL in a pitchers park with more innings and double the K's. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 03:45 PM) It seems most Mets phenom OFs don't become the stars they were supposed to be. Darryl Strawberry and Billy Beane? -
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 03:45 PM) I think you'll either see KW flip some of these guys for a player like Roberts, or he will sign a FA we didnt even think about. I just hope KW knows that you cant unload Dye, Jenks and Javy and expect reclamation projects to fuel this team. I think we do need atleast 1 true rebuilding year, we have been built to win, loaded with veterans since the 2000 season. At some point we have to juice the roster with an abundance of younger talent. I dont think we would of really contended with the same roster anyways.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 09:32 AM) A guy who was basted on this board. I remember being at a game in August against the Angels where he was booed off the mound. Also a guy KW didn't want on the post season roster. There were no tears when he was traded for Javy. In fact, he's rarely mentioned on this board as being part of the Javy trade. He helped Contreras out tremendously. Contreras then helped Ramirez out. Hopefully, Ramirez and Contreras can steer this new kid right. There have been some Cuban busts. Maybe there is something to having another player they respect from their country and who know exactly what they are going through to help them along. I dont agree with what most was said in this statement. I think everyone was fine with El Duque coming out of the bp, it was as a starter most were unsatisfied with. Although I marveled at the way he was able to work out of jams and think he won a game vs twins while walking 10 people or something 1 time. But I was definitely very satisfied with him being a long reliever on the post-season roster. Another thing one of the most memorable pictures is him and Contreras smoking a couple of Cuban cigars. The reason nobody shed a tear when he was traded is he probably would have been a starter if he wasnt traded, which just iwasnt a good thing and we got a pitcher with ace stuff in Vazquez.
-
If Crawford isnt coming our way in this trade Im definitely uninterested. Edwin Jackson is not a good pitcher, he might make a decent middle reliever but still not overly impressive. I also think everyone gushes over Aybar too much who to me is more of a super utility player than a solid starter.

QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 01:56 PM) Let me suggest a nickname "The Big Cohiba". BTW, it was Ozzie, not Hawk, that came up with "Cuban Missile", correct? I call him the "Cuban Lunchbox"

QUOTE (Texsox @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 02:38 PM) Because we dumped him. If he showed the same loyalty, and left on his own, we'd be talking Maggs level hate. /just sayin' Dye would always be highly thought because of the WS. Added into that, Jermaine wouldnt of badmouthed KW/Ozzie/Etc. like Maggz did when he left, If people can love Carl Everett because of the WS nobody will hate on Dye.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 08:57 PM) Real nice win for Illinois tonight It would really be awesome if they could find a way into the Tourney this year. I think this was probably the toughest out of conference game on the schedule, so maybe can go into conference play undefeated. Also between McCamey, Davis, Tisdale, and Legion the illini got a pretty decent group of what will be upper classmen to mix with the upcoming good recruiting classes. -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 07:30 PM) I'll take 52 XBH's, .280-.290ish average, and a good eye at the plate from a #2 hitter. Victorino is a damn fine player and Philadelphia would be dumb to give him up for Dye straight up. If thats what your looking at Dye prob give a similar avg. but had around 75 XBH's. Not too mention he walks about twice as much than Victorino.

QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 06:47 PM) I agree with that Anderson assessment... I actually believe KW is still going to pull a true blockbuster (not that aqcuirering Roberts and DeJesus wouldnt be huge). I think the Sox and Rays could potentially agree to a deal that would send Crawford and Edwin Jackson for Bobby Jenks and Jermaine Dye with a few throw ins. I know it may seem bizare, but the Rays NEED more power and they already have enough speed and they are still pretty desperate for a true closer. I love our speculation intensity here haha: Heres my lineup: Roberts 2B (Trade Fields, Marquez, Richard) DeJesus LF (Trade Broadway, Getz) Quentin RF Thome DH Konerko 1B Ramirez SS Crawford CF (Trade Dye, Jenks) Pierzynski C Viciedo/Hinski/Betemit/Blake?? 3b Rotation: Buerhle, Floyd, Danks, Vazquez, Jackson Bullpen: Thorton, Linebrink, Dotel, Poreda.... Lol I think people are expecting too much. In all likelyhood, Fields will be our starting 3B going into next season and Getz/Nix will battle for the 2B/utility role. The only players who could be part of a trade are Dye and Vazquez in my opinion. -
I think Shane Victorino gets a little bit too much love here. He is a nice player but he really isnt all that great. Nothing he does is all that spectacular, avg is mediocre, doesnt walk too much, not much power in a HR heavy park, and he doesnt even hit all that many doubles for a speedy guy.

good pitcher but not HoF in my opinion. But I think I'm a little more strict than most and think there are definitely some unworthy candidates in the HoF already.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 03:25 PM) Assuming you're normal and don't have FSNSouth, ESPN Full Court, or SECTV, it won't be. It'll be on ESPN360 too but I assume you don't get that either. Have I mentioned that the BTN sucks? Yes that does definitely suck, why have the big ten network if they dont play the games in your state. -

QUOTE (SleepyWhiteSox @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 11:46 PM) I feel SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO bad for Rose... I dont understand why people say this, when your a 1st overall draft pick you best expect to come to a pretty s***ty team. Given that fact, he could of got it a lot worse since there were a few teams worse than us last year without him. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 01:42 PM) Unfortunately, you have that whole contract mess thing getting in the way...so you wind up needing someone like Harrington in there to match Hinrich's contract, then the Warriors want more, and on and on. Throw in Ben Gordon lol? and a draft pick. -

The only thing keeping me from saying its the best conference ever is the lack of defense, TT, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State all have pretty poor defense. -
Other middle relief/set-up options out there

I know he is hurt and could even miss most of the season, but Id love to sign Cordero. He could be a future closer if we want to trade Jenks or worse case a pretty dominant setup man. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 17, 2008 -> 11:12 AM) No, but the bottom 5 teams or so, the ones who are already out of the playoffs...we already see them racing for the bottom by shutting people down at the end of the year. I really don't want to see that get worse. Ok again Im not really following you. I said all non-playoff teams should get equal chance at the top pick. How does that have anything to do with getting worse, Teams would play harder because they have nothing to gain by losing. No team will tank games to miss playoffs. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 17, 2008 -> 11:08 AM) No one here can possibly argue that having 5 teams shutting down their best players for the last 20 games of the season every year is good for the NBA. We see enough of that as it is with the lottery. With it based on the raw records, we might well see people legitimately throwing games to go after Oden/Rose. Im not sure if your agreeing with me or not, but my logic is no team is going to throw games to miss playoffs.. therefore no team is going to blatantly lose games like it currently is in the NBA at the end of the season. -

QUOTE (rangercal @ Nov 17, 2008 -> 10:42 AM) What, 25%? That's way too low for having the worst record. On the other hand, should a team really be rewarded for having the worse record? I actually like the NBA way the best, if I could id make it so every non-playoff team had equal chance to get the top pick. -
QUOTE (scenario @ Nov 14, 2008 -> 05:02 PM) I think it was the exact opposite. I remember large numbers of WhiteSox fans and media hating both deals when they happened. In fact, KW took an incredible amount of heat for the BMac deal. And most people thought we could have gotten a MUCH better deal for Freddy at the time. Well I was thinking more about the educated crowd rather than the casual fan. On one hand its always tough to see players you like go, but I think i think both were more than solid deals. The trades I didnt care for were the Cunningham/Richar trade, Carlos Lee trade, and now both Swisher trades.
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 14, 2008 -> 02:19 PM) Remember, on paper it looked like he lost both the BMAC deal and the Freddy deal. Not to most whitesox fans, while some really liked B-Mac here Danks was just as good a pitching prospect and threw from the left side and Massett had ability to make an impact out of bp. Ive always been a Danks fan partly because a good friend of mine is a Rangers fan so knew about their system. As for the Freddy deal everyone knew he had nothing left and getting any return was a success, not to mention Gio has always been one of my favorite wsox prospects and I was a big Floyd fan.

I think Tex is a nice player and all but I would never give him 20 million a year let alone for 10 years. Id offer more around the 14-16 million range especially if Im going to give him that 10 year security blanket.
