Jeter worst defensive IF in baseball
GoodAsGould replied to southsider2k5's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (rangercal @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 03:48 PM) Well , I use my eyes instead of looking at ERAs. I tell you what, David Aardsma should win CY young every year. That is totally different than looking at defensive stats. And no I didnt watch every shortstop 100 games or whatever this season. But over the years Ive seen enough of guys like Jeter to make an accurate judgement of their defensive abilities. Unless Jeter was dramatically worse this season I can think of a few SS's who are worse fielders in my opinion. -
Jeter worst defensive IF in baseball
GoodAsGould replied to southsider2k5's topic in The Diamond Club
I don't agree with him being the worse defensive IF. He obviously isn't gold glove worthy but I think I have him somewhere in the middle of the pack defensively. But like Ive said b4 when it comes to defense I always use my eyes over stats which just cant be measured effectively. -

Orlando is an ok team, better than the Bulls no doubt but I think the Celtics/Cavs/Pistons/Sixers/Raptors are all better. That being said Howard could definitely carry them to a series victory vs any of those teams, especially if he can actually hit his free throws. I also think Orlando is the worse matchup for the bulls in the NBA. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 3, 2008 -> 08:33 AM) I was at the game, and i think the horrific nature of Rex's throws can really be seen live. He is not a very good QB and we better hope Orton comes back asap. What do you expect out of any QB who has been on the bench that long and not practicing with the first team offense. Truth of the matter is that Grossman is a much better pure passer than Orton ever will be just sometimes forces balls when he shouldn't and has size working against him. After a week of practice with the first team his passes will definitely be more crisp against the Titans and than Packers after, just who knows which team they will be going too. -
QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Nov 1, 2008 -> 03:49 PM) http://www.lcdtvbuyingguide.com/lcdtv-plasmavslcd.shtml Seems like those experts who come into your store need to learn a little more about technology. Unless I'm buying my own Jet Plane, I'll be watching the Plasma. ok? lol do what you want, it even said exactly the same thing about burn in though, which for some reason you tried calling me out on.
-
QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Nov 1, 2008 -> 11:04 AM) You admit you receive bias statements. Of course, they are going to say, "My brand of tv is better because X X and X." From what you posted so far regarding burn-in and such, the people you are receiving your info from are giving you wrong information. The information you have provided us from your sources is information that was relevant about 5 years ago. Burn-in is no longer an issue with pixel shifting, white screen, and rolling screens. I'm not saying Plasma's are definitely better than LCD's or vice versa. Each has their perks. For picture quality, however, Plasma is by far the best. I suggest reading AVSForums as well. It is one of the best and most well respected websites on audio/video. You have completely ignored everything I said. I already stated that burn in is not really an issue with plasma's anymore. And yes the representatives are obviously biased towards their own brands but some tv's make plasma's/lcd's like Samsung and Panasonic and I get information straight from them about the differences and advantages of one over the other. Also like I previously stated the Panasonic representative or one of them atleast who frequently visits our store has even admitted he owns a LCD himself and a Samsung at that.

QUOTE (The Critic @ Nov 1, 2008 -> 12:11 PM) I never got the excitement around Goldberg. Average worker at best, unable to "tell a story" in the ring, no personality or mic skills. The manufactured "streak" sold him to a lot of people, though. I liked him back in the day, he just seemed like a complete badass. Not the best but a fun guy to watch in the ring. -
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 1, 2008 -> 11:30 AM) Those are sales folks from the companies though dude, they are going to want to push you towards selling their more expensive devices. The third party reviews like CNET are non-biased and forums like AVNET are basically a bunch of consumers as well as experts and professionals. They dont sell anything though, they work for the company for example Sharp and he tells us all the features the Sharp tv has and advantage over other tv's, obviously shows a little bias towards his own brand compared to others. But than when the Samsung person comes in he informs on both the plasma/lcd's. Hell even the Panasonic representative who comes in as a regular admitted he himself had a Samsung lcd instead of a Panasonic plasma.
-
You guys can say what you want but I work with tv's, both lcd and plasmas, and we have representatives of companies that come in and tell us what we need to know about their tv's. So my information is straight from the source, you guys are looking online from reviewers and whatnot.

lol you all need to relax, the celtics are the best team in the NBA are very solid defensively as well as offensively and defending champs. We are a team coming off a 49 loss season and starting a rookie pg and a rookie coach, this game was bound to be ugly. Now if we play poorly vs Memphis like today than start to worry. -
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Oct 31, 2008 -> 01:12 PM) He also had the 3rd worst RZR (revised zone rating) in the game and by far the least OOZ (plays out of zone) of any 2B in the game which lends credence to those who believe his range was actually mediocre for a player with his speed. (myself included) And not that the stat means anything but Alexei's FPct was the 12th best out of only 17 qualified 2B that puts him in the bottom 3rd. I prefer to use my eyes than look at stats for defense, and my eyes told me while Alexi had some obvious defencisies(sp?) he made some great plays at 2B that most other 2B couldnt and his arm helped turn more double plays than just about any other 2B.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Oct 31, 2008 -> 07:07 AM) If we trade one of Dye/Konerko, expect Griffey back, IMO. No? Griffey probably isnt coming back no matter what we do this off-season, you don't even know what we'd get back for trading Dye/Konerko.

Id recommend everyone not to go with plasma. Burn-in isnt that big of a deal anymore although still very possible. But the worse part about plasma is the color detiorates with use. After just 6 months of avg. use a plasma's picture wont be as good when you first opened it out of the box. If you want something that will look sweet for sports, get the 120hz on a LCD.

QUOTE (Wanne @ Oct 30, 2008 -> 04:21 PM) Well maybe not career years...I probably should have said played over their heads. Right off the top of my I'll say Pena, Iwamura, Shields.... and does anybody think Dioner Navarro will hit close to .300 again? Again...not saying they're not a good team or anything...I think they just had a magical year and would be shocked if they did it again next year. I 100% disagree with you, the only guy on that team who had a career year was balfour. Everyone else is either young and improving actually or have had better seasons in the past. If anything id bet on improvement from a few of their players.

I think the bullpen is in need of a closer, dont know if Percival has another season in him or not. Other than that they could definitely use more bat in the lineup, a DH or RF. The rest of the team is very solid and like has been mentioned before having David Price will be a nice addition to the rotation.
-
QUOTE (DBAHO @ Oct 30, 2008 -> 08:40 AM) And you saw the impact of what having a good bullpen did to us earlier this season, and then when Linebrink got injured and Logan lost it, it all kind of went downhill from there. So it certainly needs another upgrade or 2 IMHO. Yeah but Linebrink is going into next season healthy and I really think Richard will be a dominant arm in the bullpen if nothing else give us what Logan was at the beginning of the season. The only spot really up for grabs in my opinion is DJ Carraso's.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 30, 2008 -> 07:05 AM) The only thing that would make me irate is if KW came out and said he was going to be the starter next year. If he earns it, fine. The thing is, there are many people who think every minor leaguer KW signs now is the next Carlos Quentin. Nix was a minor leaguer who was released by the Rockies. If baseball teams who pay scouts thought he was half as good as some people on this board do without ever seeing him play, someone would have traded for him. Most likely, he plays in Charlotte this year. Not true, people like the move because its the very first of the off-season for us and its obvious Nix does have some talent. So we added a player who if nothing else was touted as a defensive wiz for nothing but 400k.

Unless its Larry Hughes that we send I wouldnt understand the move. Hinrich is the backup pg right now, something Gordon/Hughes arent able to do effectively and honestly Hinrich would contribute to this team more than Harrington. Preferably id like to deal Hughes and have Harrington off the bench for SF/PF. Lessens Nocioni's role on the team but Harrington is better. -

If Rose plays like he did today than I definitely can see playoffs as a possibility for this team. That being said, we did just play the Bucks and I'm sure my optimism level will go down after the Celtics. -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 29, 2008 -> 04:29 AM) I doubt you'll find a person on this board who had any beef with the Quentin trade at the time, even considering what both had done in their careers up to that point. There were damn near hundreds on here who hated the Garcia trade because the Sox didn't get enough value for him. I guess that indicates stolen to me; even if Williams wanted THE Carlos Quentin, he was acquired relatively cheaply; Gavin Floyd, seeing as how Gio was traded the next offseason, essentially cost a "durable" innings eater. The Sox valued Gavin very highly, and I don't see how he was stolen. It's a small point that's really not worth arguing, I just don't like people suggesting how Gavin was stolen given the cost, even if he was the "afterthought" (though I don't think he was ever the afterthought, and I think there are people on the board who will agree with that statement). Quentin was the quintessential buy low, expect high type of player. The Sox gave up a lot to acquire Floyd. That's really all I'm saying. Lol well I can just counter with that we didnt give up a lot for Floyd. We gave up a starter who in the first place had an era in the mid 4's which isn't anything special. It was obvious during the season he was throwing junk and he lost a lot of what he had just a season ago, and he was on a contract year. So we gave up a pitcher who struggled his last season was on the downside of his career and only had 1 year left on contract, to me thats giving up a little. I do think the whitesox targeted Floyd in the trade but Gio Gonzalez was the definite focal point.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Oct 28, 2008 -> 11:57 PM) Which one is more valuable? Which one do we need now? I would go with starter right now based off your assumptions, just because it would be cheaper to go with Richard then any free agent (duh) and I dont really like any FA more than Richard except maybe a Colon or Garcia, even then Im worried about health there. I feel like a bullpen piece could be found for cheaper (whether inhouse or FA) and be effective enough to not hurt us. I dont understand how you figure we are better off with a poor starter over a dominant reliever. Our bullpen is in need of a 2nd lefty in the first place and Richard would not only fit that bill but possibly be pretty dominant in it. As a start your looking at a guy in the era range of 5 that is probably not going to go long into games and tax our bullpen.

Rose should of had the double double, we missed 3 wide open shots at end. Nice debut for him and nice debut for Tyrus. Gordon/Hinrich also were very effective coming off the bench. Watching this game makes me wonder what we are going to do when Hughes is back, cycle Sefalosha out of the rotation is only thing I can see happening.
