  1. QUOTE (lostfan @ Nov 18, 2010 -> 08:47 PM) He needs to be smacked upside the head every now and again. Its a simple formula for Jay. You move left to right in the pocket, you can chuck it. If you are moving back, your throws need to be underneath only. He over trusts his arm and thinks he can get zip on passes when he is moving back. Thats pretty much when he makes a messed up throw, he backs up and trys to throw downfield. If he eliminates that from his arsenal, he would be elite.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 17, 2010 -> 07:53 PM) Which is exactly why I think Gavin would be the last of the five starters to get dealt right now. And that is fine. I don't have a problem trading him as long as we get something of impact in return. I just get a kick out of those who have dislike for him based on his facial expressions or the fact that he lacks overt emotional response that people seem to need for some reason.
  3. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Nov 17, 2010 -> 01:19 PM) Gavin is gone and has been for a while. He's way to inconsistent and aloof. Gavin, Santos, Escobar + (low level prospect) to ARZ for Justin Upton or St Louis for Rasmus. A 27 year old pitcher, making 2.7 million dollars who chewed up innings and had a 4 ERA. That my friends is what a lot of teams want. And something we would be stupid to give up. I guess betting on Jake Peavy and other associated stuff rounding out the rotation is better for people. Remember he was the 3rd best starter on the team last year. I find it humorous that people disliked him based on his lack of emotion. Sometimes I think fans would like a guy with a 5 ERA over Gavin as long as he screamed a bit, and maybe pointed to the sky. Style points only I guess. Its real simple. If you give up Gavin, who is under control and is valuable you better be getting something of impact back.
  4. I would like to see the 1917 Uniforms as Sunday alternates to mix in with our the 2011 uni's.
  5. QUOTE (beckham15 @ Nov 14, 2010 -> 08:36 PM) hopefully we'll be seeing alot less of those this upcoming season.....it seemed like they wore them every game this past year Why, the black jersey's are pretty sweet. I hate the all grey's.
  6. Daniel Manning looking right at a receiver, decides to run into him. Not too smart.
  7. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Nov 11, 2010 -> 11:54 PM) We should sign J Dye. My guess is that bat is still good and he can platoon in RF and at IB to We need to get away from the mid to late 30s fixer up pick up. A terrible defensive RF who is older doesn't magically become passible with sitting at home for a year. And as a 1st baseman, uh no.
  8. I have no problem with the different taxation policies. But I want the following for those who are pulling services and are not contributing from a taxation standpoint. 1.) If you are receiving benefits from the government ( eg welfare, unemployment, healthcare, etc ). You must submit to scheduled drug tests. I don't care if you are for or against drugs. But if you can afford drugs, you don't need welfare. 2.) If you are able bodied and are cleared by a doctor to work and are receiving the above benefits then you must perform some sort of community work. This will help associate work with benefits as well as to coop some of the costs. Now of course the Unions will fight this, but in reality it makes sense. This can be anything from litter patrol, to cutting grass, to whatever is needed from labor standpoint. You don't want to do this, then you don't get the benefits. 3.) Skills for work program. For those who participate in the above work program, you will get credits for some training to learn skills that will help you get employed. This can also include office based skills and have some college credit involved. Again its about training people and letting them provide for themselves. 4.) People need to actively show that they are looking for a job. My wife's friend's husband was all proud of the fact that he made good money on unemployment. So now he could have "me" time. He could work out at the health club, and watch movies and enjoy life until his enemployment was going away. Then magically he was motivated and found a job. I don't care if you tax me, well I care, but sure whatever. But then in the next breathe don't ask me to be thrilled when I see someone pull up at the local Jewel in their 45k SUV, have a shopping cart filled with all sorts of stuff. Then split the order up into small orders using some on link, some on wic, and then buy your liquor after pulling out a wad of 100's. I see this more than a few times in Darien and its stupid. Sure not everyone is doing it. But I have seen enough abusing the system to say that we need to start to make sure that those who are getting help need it. And if they are getting the help, then they can provide some sort of service back to the community.
  9. Flowers has a lot of power however I have not seen a swing or an approach that looks conducive to contact. So far he looks like a right handed Joe Borchard. He needs to make an adjustment to his swing so he can square up the ball yet not miss it most of the time. As much as AJ frustrates people with his swing first approach his ability to make contact is something that will be missed if he leaves the lineup. Before the season I was all for letting AJ move, however I have not seen anything out of Flowers in the minors this year or at the majors that tells me he is going to be a contributor at the major league level this year. I think we have to keep AJ at this point.
  10. I would welcome Sandberg coming to the Sox just to see him work with Beckham. I think Morel and Beckham would be impacted by Ryno on the bench.
  11. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Oct 28, 2010 -> 10:56 PM) Mackowiak was a huge whipping boy in 2006. Everyone seemed to want Anderson to play and would get really angry if he wasn't in center field. Mack wasnt a big whipping boy. He just was playing out of position. I liked the move to pickup Mack. I thought he would be great playing a backup role and playing corner OF. He would of been great in that role. Then of course he becomes our CF playing out of position and just goes into the dumper. He wasn't real comfortable with the position, and I think it affected his bat as well. Another example of the whitesox taking a role player and over exposing him, or playing them out of position. Hopefully that crap ends.
  12. QUOTE (Wanne @ Oct 28, 2010 -> 09:54 PM) Would that really have been a bad thing?!? Gordon is absolutely CLUELESS at the plate right now. Maybe he was rushed just a tad...had some success...and now he struggles. Who knows... All I know is Juan is a pretty valuable asset to have. Might drive you nuts at times...but others is money. Just sayin... Yes actually it would be a bad thing. Beckham hit well in 2009 coming up with very little minor league time. He struggled like mad in the first half and then really settled in the second half. His second half numbers of .310Ba/.380OBP/.497SLG with a .877OPS is hardly struggling. I rather have a young Beckham with more potential for the cheap than Uribe.
  13. Typical offseason crap. 1.) Over the next 4 months we will get linked to all sorts of players, only to get peoples hopes up. 2.) Then the inevitable post about how "Kenny only operates under the radar, if you see someone linked he won't be here." 3.) Then the counter thread talking about how Kenny picked up X player he has loved and has been linked to all year. 4.) Then some of the players go off the board. Then the debates about how X team overpaid or got the player for the cheap. 5.) Then a thread about how Reinsdorf if cheap, with a counter on how he pretty much dumps what they make in revenue into the team. 6.) Then we sign someone or trade for someone and over reaction city happens. Now the warning sign of inactivity is when you get the catch phrases, "We really like our kids", "Some GMs really want everything for their players, two sides are necessary to make a trade", and of course the "Well the money we don't spend now, we will have available for the stretch run" The big deal is the Konerko situation. That will drive how we spend our money more than anything. They need to ramp up the offense, get a real DH or actual hitters who can provide production at DH. Hopefully no retreads, or ex-1990's Cleveland Indians, or other players Kenny had a crush on when they were good 8 years ago. I think we have run our course with the Frankenstein lets put a few batteries, some duct tape, and string and run them out there as a productive part of our team. Its early. Wait till the GM meetings before this gets into the true swing of things.
  14. QUOTE (Wanne @ Oct 28, 2010 -> 09:09 PM) And on a side note...all I recall is how many people on here b****ed about him. Thats because watching him hit was maddening. The Juan Uribe love is revisionist history. Most people were driven nuts watching him swing at everything and spin around. Dick Allen was probably one of the few true blue Uribe supporters when he was on the team. Juan Uribe played wonderful defense and played hard, but watching him hit ooh god. He had some good pop thats about all I can say. Juan being gone allowed for Gordon Beckham to come up in 2009. If you think for a minute that Beckham would of been promoted last year with Uribe on the team I think you are dreaming. His hitting stats for the year are okay, nothing real eye popping for the year. His stance and how he loads are completely changed though. If anything its keeping him quieter so he isnt spinning out of control as much. He is having a great post season. Great for him.
  15. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Oct 24, 2010 -> 03:21 PM) I think Cutler is mentally broken. On every snap the defense is pawing at him, slamming him to the ground and sacking him. While this is happening you have our OC still going with 7 step drops. At some point when you get kicked in the jimmy over and over you eventually flinch. This offense was designed on failure. A historically bad offensive line. Receivers who are either not good, or give up on routes. And a stubborn OC. I would be surprised if Jay survives this year. I want to thank Granny and her kids for keeping this coaching staff together. Lets spend 22 million on a QB and 30 cents on the Oline.
  16. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Oct 22, 2010 -> 10:47 AM) Shoot Meg Whitman spent $119 million of her own money in CA alone. This irritates me when politicians from both sides of the aisle spent ridiculous amounts of personal money for a campaign. Its obviously not for the return on investment with the salary that they are going to get in public office. The usual answer is how they are going to help people. Well 119 million dollars to the right charity will help people a whole hell of a lot more than any politiican will ever accomplish in office. No matter what they claim.
  17. Some really bad miscommunication going on between Turco on the defense. An almost goal, and now a goal based on something that shouldn't happen. Turco gives up the puck behind the goal and is waiting for a defenseman to claim it. However they dont and the Sabers pretty much have a clear set from the back of the net. Stupid play right now.
  18. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 14, 2010 -> 02:32 PM) Best case right now would be that we extend Jackson another year over the winter, for a reasonable price, and he dominates for 2 years with us. Boras doesn't do one year deals, unless they have no play what so ever and thats only to ramp up their value. Boras will do whatever he can to get Edwin to FA.
  19. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 6, 2010 -> 09:59 AM) I've officially decided to start looking for a new job early next year. I am going to get my A+ certification in late winter/early spring and then start looking for an IT job. I need to find a same or higher paying job, or else I'm not leaving my current one. IMO, A+ isn't really a respected cert. Its good if you want to get into basic helpdesk or fix PCs but no networking group worth their salt with vet any of the + certs. You would be better off getting a Cisco/Microsoft cert than the A+.
  20. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Oct 3, 2010 -> 10:21 PM) Awesome throw for an 8 yard completion on 4th and 18. Throw the ball deep and hope your WR makes a play. You need more than a few seconds to try that. Ask the previous two injured QBs.
  21. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Oct 3, 2010 -> 10:18 PM) QB controversy. Only for the mouth breathers.
  22. Now that Cutler is out of the game. Its the line isn't settled, too many changes. I think Jay penised someone they like or know.
  23. QUOTE (lostfan @ Oct 3, 2010 -> 10:01 PM) I can't believe there were actually people calling for Todd Collins to start. I almost want Hanie in there so he gets planted into the turf a few times to shut up the backup QB is always better crew. Oh wait, then we will have the trade revisionists who will want Orton. Because Orton + this line = success. LMAO
