GameThread: White Sox(27-31) vs Tigers(31-26) 7:11 CSN+

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 11:13 PM) Wow, those scouts about Beckham must be watching another game. He hasn't even seen an inside fastball since he's been up, it seems. He's just getting under things and popping them up to the right side instead of driving them. They have been going away with him quite a bit. I haven't seen them pounding him in at all. -

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 11:02 PM) He never likes facing us and even said so himself. If he didn't pitch against us in 06-07 (and alittle in 08) his numbers would be insanely good. He is a fastball pitcher. Guys who throw hard versus the sox = poundage. They just react, and don't think. -

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 10:54 PM) Buddy Bell can say what he wants, but major league pitching is a whole lot different than AA pitching. Danks still strikes out a bit too much to be MLB ready. He'd struggle mightily if he got called up. With that said, I expect him to be our starting CF on Opening Day next season. Hence why the contact rate is such a big thing in the minors. Beckham with high contact rate, comes up. Has to adjust. Still makes contact, yet not stroking every pitch. versus Typical Sox prospect brought up with low contact rate. Guy gets to 2 strikes and Ks badly. -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 10:48 PM) I did think before my post. Have you met our offense? You are going to have a heart attack if you have this kind of reaction after a loss this season. I know you expected them to win at what, a 600 clip is what you said. Well I have some bad news. That might be a bit high of a projection. Sometimes you have to go through growing pains for the greater good. Right now we are struggling. As our past has shown us, its not a permanent thing. -

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 10:28 PM) I think it's a damn good idea to throw him in there, actually. However, as a fan, I still want to see the team succeed. And Beckham just isn't really an upgrade right now at 3B offensively. Stick him at 2B and let him platoon with Nix while Fields rots and raises (or lowers) his trade value. Beckham puts the ball in play quite a bit more than Fields. And please don't even compare the defense. Its not even close. So Beckham at this point is an upgrade. And Fields is not going to upgrade his value in any time unless he becomes babe ruth. The scouts know he cant hit a 90+ fastball. And so do the GMs for the other teams. They are not going to give us anything of value. This is a transition year. If we win the division because of the crappyness of it, gravy. I do not however, want to do anything to mess up the long term success of this team by jacking with Beckham. He is up, and he needs to play everyday. He doesn't need a platoon with Nix, who cant hit himself. He needs ABs and time. I want a constant winner, and I am hoping that is what we are building. -

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 10:23 PM) Why the hell would I want Gordon Beckham to fail? 3 good AB's in what now, 16 chances? Good. Is that last number you put up, a lot for chances. Or maybe we just give him a bit of time. I guess Wieters is a bust as well. Tell the Orioles to back up the truck on him as well. Young hitters dont come up polished. Sorry to piss on your WS 2009 plans. -

QUOTE (Friend of Nordhagen @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 10:20 PM) Let's just suspend them in harnesses. There could be a series of tether lines running over the field. I was hoping for the matrix effect. Joyce jumps up, and does a flip, and the play slows down mid stream so he can see wise in slow motion. Then it speeds up as he lands, and then for good measure he round house kicks Ronny Woo into the wall. -

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 10:15 PM) What? Did you even watch the play and see where he was and how it unfolded? And that's the positioning you are supposed to have. I was being sarcastic, the crazy things in this thread are over the top. Sorry I didnt make it green. The only place he could of saw the play perfectly, is if he was directly above it and it would require the power of floatation. -

QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 10:14 PM) Cut Wise right now....that asshole costs us the game by not making it home in time. If he can't run fast, he can't do s***. Get him outta town right now!!! He was safe. Cut the umpire first, he blew the call. -

QUOTE (Shamrock4Life @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 10:09 PM) how are you blaming the umps positioning there? where do you want him to stand? and he never called him safe, he was getting out of the way of Wise when his arms came up. Because the best obvious position is behind the catcher towards the first base side making sure he is shielded. -

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 10:07 PM) That was just a terrible AB from Beckham. That was his worst AB yet. That last swing was very tentative. -

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 09:34 PM) That's 2 weeks if we continue to play him every other day. Beckham looks fluid in the field. He has good ABs for the most part, and looks like a big leaguer. Its amazing after seeing Fields flounder. -

I actually like the pick. Its really up to Buddy Bell to clean up his swing a bit, and to move him into CF. In the late first round, I would rather get a guy who can project than a safe pick. Good job. Now lets keep loading up. -
I don't know what Wise thinks he can accomplish with this, but its not going to end well for him. He might want to flip his own baseball card, and check his stats and the status of his career before he starts to call out the fanbase. You want the booing to stop, hit the damn ball. I do not advocate booing of a player, but this guy is just asking for pain when this gets out. He should be thanking his lucky stars that he is on this team, because he is a AAAA outfielder on the rest of the baseball teams.

I was able to go to an England versus US friendly at Solider field a few years back. Walking on the first level towards my seats, I felt like I was at a premiership stadium in Europe. They had england banners hanging on every square inch of space they could get it on. They had flags and it was a sea of white and red. The chants were pretty good as well. It was an amazing event to see. -

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
southsideirish71 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Just got back from the game. The only AB that Beckham looked bad in was the popup, outside of that he put together good ABs and had solid contact. He looked solid in the field as well. The last AB he tried going to right, put solid contact on that ball and it went foul. Then went back up the middle and just got caught. The hits will come for this kid. Contreras looked great. Good velocity good movement. -
Trying to squeeze every taxable dollar out of you. I love the redistribution of wealth.

Faber versus Brown II Faber broke his right hand on Brown in the first round. Brown dominated the 2nd through 4th rounds. Faber sunk a choke, but couldnt hold it with the broken hand. Brown was just too strong and too good on the ground. Brown wins via unanimous decision. Faber couldnt throw any punches after he jacked his hand up, he couldnt hold any chokes. Brown was very strong on the ground.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 05:54 PM) AJP caught it awkwardly, which made it look worse. Plus McCarver must of forgot, its not where its caught. Its where it crosses the plane of the plate. Nipples to Knees over the big white thing in front of the catcher. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 01:48 PM) Link contains Ozzie's "excuses" for not playing Beckham. What a load of crap. http://blogs.chicagosports.chicagotribune....p-saturday.html I love the follow the leader quote. Why isnt a member of the coaching staff saying something in the dugout when they see everyone, including he rookies hacking away. Why not a voice saying, hey guys take a pitch. Guillen acts like they are mindless robots going up there, following the leader. The leaders should be members of the coaching staff, not the guy in front of them. -

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 01:17 PM) f***ing great that I don't get to see Beckham play. I don't know if Ozzie has the patience to break in rookies. Maybe Ozzie should take his own advice he gave everyone when they complained about Wise's at bats and apply it to Beckham. So Getz who drops a throw, and then dogs after the ball doesn't get benched but Beckham does. Awesome. .
