  1. My wife and I almost pissed our pants laughing at this show the other night. Good stuff, which means it won't last.
  2. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 10:30 AM) So I'm the only one who thought the episode sucked? It's a show full of actors who barely act as is, so when you throw them into a documentary style show suddenly you have bad actors who aren't used to acting, acting like they're not acting and failing miserable. Vince looked completely ridiculous as Pablo Escobar, it looked like a skinny white guy in a whole lot of prostetic makeup with a terrible accent. If Medellín were a real movie Vincent Chase would win a Rassie for the role. Seeing as how nothing bad really ever happens on this show, I assume Vince will win an Oscar for the role or some s*** which will make no sense what so ever. I agree that Vince, whatever his real name is, is a horrible actor.
  3. I never thought I'd think this, but John Mayer's 'Gravity' is an amazing song, the rest of that record doesn't impress me.
  4. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 02:09 AM) Sleeping's overrated. Amen. Sleep when you're dead.
  5. A couple of thoughts. Besides Soriano, I really was not at all impressed with what I saw from the Cubs this weekend. They're an average baseball team who didn't exactly tear the cover off the ball.... yet they were good enough to sweep us. THAT'S sad. I haven't been to the Cell since September and I'd give anything to sit in one of those seats and watch this crummy baseball team. I went 36 years watching the Sox lose before they finally won the WS, why would I jump ship after another bad year and a half?
  6. "Angel-A" was fun. Wait for the rental though.
  7. QUOTE(bmags @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 01:04 AM) it's kind of the point though. Then the point sux and so do the White Stripes. Seriously, she's awful.
  8. QUOTE(BobDylan @ Jun 22, 2007 -> 07:10 PM) Metal and Hardcore are really the only two genre's (they sound alike, anyway) that I just can't get into. Some metal is okay, like instrumental stuff. But when the vocalist comes on and screams this deep howl in my ear, I'm just like, "Jab an ice pick in my ear and maybe then it'll sound better." I stumbled upon 'Headbangers's Ball' the other night. ( I didn't know that show was still around) I tried to be open minded and watched a few videos, but I just couldn't vibe. Like you said all the vocals sound the same and the instruments are just one big clusterf***.........and I like uptempo, agressive music. QUOTE(The Critic @ Jun 22, 2007 -> 08:25 PM) I'm not a White Stripes fan (aside from Seven Nations Army), so take that for what it's worth. I've seen a lot of message board posts praising this song, so I decided to really try to give this an open-minded listen. I liked the intro to the song. I thought maybe it was going to steer away from what I consider (from my admittedly limited exposure to them) the "typical" White Stripes sound. But it really didn't, at least not away from the sound of the songs I've heard. I guess the biggest problem I had with Icky Thump was that it never seemed to find a groove. It had a lot of jerky-sounding breaks in the song, which stopped whatever flow the song was picking up. It's not a terrible song, but it's not a song I'd buy (or even download for free from the site I found the mp3 on, as it turns out). My problem with The White Stripes is the drummer chick. I'm not a drummer, but I bet any below average drummer could fill in and do what she does.
  9. Because I'm out of town I've only watched a few Sox games on WGN this season. I must say, it's one thing to read about how bad this team is and it's a TOTALLY different thing to actually see it. This team is dead right now, worse than all of the 'corpseball' of 2001-2004 teams. Boring, lackadaisical, unmotivated, pathetic and embarassing.
  10. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 02:00 PM) Anyone loving Icky Thump as much as I am? Yes, I prefer White with a guitar in his hands instead of him sitting on a piano stool.
  11. QUOTE(Jim Spencer @ Jun 22, 2007 -> 12:44 PM) For the fans of both teams, this is it Go Sox The Cubs are still VERY MUCH in the weak ass NL central race. The Sox on the other hand.....
  12. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 01:26 PM) From what I read, all he did was lie to the Golden Gate Bridge committee about the reasons he wanted to film. Have you heard something else? He interviewed the victims' families but did not tell them he had footage of the suicides. His film crew would set up and wait for people to jump and apparently made no attempts to try to stop anyone or call police. He's an article: http://www.kottke.org/06/05/controversy-over-the-bridge
  13. THIS IS OUR WORLD SERIES THIS YEAR. IT MEANS MORE THAN ANYTHING. Sorry, I'm up way too early.
  14. If I ever ran over someone's kid, I'd expect someone to be very upset and possibly violent about it....regardless of that person's race. So I'd probably stay in my car and call the cops on my cell phone and stay there until they arrived. If the crowd got violent, I'd leave the scene and explain to the cops later why I left. If it meant I had to run some people over, guess what? They lose. I'd drive right to nearest police station, tell them what happened, tell them exactly where they can find the 37 people I ran over and let them put the cuffs on me. Who was it that said: "I'd rather be judged by twelve than carried by six."
  15. QUOTE(BobDylan @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 02:55 PM) It's better than their previous two. Worth the cash? I wouldn't put down $15 for it, but it is a different effort than the previous two. Jack pulls out some tricks he hasn't used before. I guess it depends on how much you like them. I was thoroughly disappointed with Elephant and Satan, so I didn't put much stock in Icky Thump. Kelly has definitely put on some weight. I saw her on Kimmel and her thick thighs and balloon ass distracted me from the music. She used to be really hot, but it's not like she's ugly now. Oh, and speaking of 90's music... Pulp's "Different Class" is tops from the 90's. That means sit down Cobain (overrated, anyway). Jarvis Cocker owns b****es in that album. Not to mention Cocker ran onto stage during a live Michael Jackson set and mooned him. Probably true, but it's a shame her voice is wasted. I mean, the female scene in indie music is dominating right now with Feist, Taken By Trees, Oh Laura, Coco Rosie, Joanna Newsom, Amy Winehouse and Alele Diane. She's got the power in her voice to dominate that scene--but she needs to slow the f*** down and pull that rock music down a couple notches and find a good writer. My wife plays Amy Winehouse non stop. She's the goods.
  16. QUOTE(The Critic @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 11:30 AM) Do these "things" involve banana peels??? aaaaaand Satan shovels some extra coals into TC's room.
  17. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 07:59 AM) Anyone see the documentary "The Bridge"? No, but I read there's a lot of controversy about some of the things the film maker did to make the film.
  18. I didn't know this. From the Cubs site: Barrett also was involved in an argument in the dugout with Cubs pitcher Rich Hill on June 12, a game the Cubs lost in the 13th inning to Seattle when Barrett missed tagging Jose Vidro because he couldn't get his glove on a relay throw from right fielder Jacque Jones.
  19. I don't have patience for shows that will require me to watch four episodes before I catch on. I never got into Deadwood at all.
  20. I was outside from 2-7 pm today and thought I was gonna melt. We will have high temps of above 107 for the next 10 days. To think we'll be in the 120's in August.
  21. QUOTE(farmteam @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 09:59 PM) Indeed. I've really gotten into 90s stuff recently; I've always liked it and listened to it, but now I'm really getting into it. *sigh* I so miss 90s music. QUOTE(BobDylan @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 02:18 PM) Okay, don't bash me before listening to it, but Kelly Clarkson's new album My December is quite good. It has some "indie" feel in it and the craftsmanship through it is very good. This is a singer who has, in my opinion, never released an album with any more than two songs worth listening to more than twice. This one has at least seven. Whoever writes for her (or if it's her) needs a few lessons though. The writing throughout is weak and digging to hit areas that she'll never hit--even with her voice. If she's changing her sound to the indie vibe, hopefully somebody will tell her that subtly can go for miles in poetry. We might not enjoy the same artists, but it's great that you have an appreciation for things straight across the board. Pelican The National Dylan Clarkson I haven't heard her new record, but Clarkson is another classic example of a gifted singer using her amazing voice to make crap music......and she's put on about 40 lbs.
  22. QUOTE(Brian @ Jun 16, 2007 -> 09:20 PM) Like I said, they were talking about it on the Cubs post game. Right and how exactly did the people on this post game show happen to hear a conversation that took place on the field??
  23. QUOTE(3E8 @ Jun 16, 2007 -> 11:53 AM) I for one would be happy to oblige Jessica Alba just wants sex Who is dumber Jessica Alba or Eva Mendes?
  24. QUOTE(Brian @ Jun 16, 2007 -> 08:36 PM) Someone on the radio said that the vocal exchange sort of went like this: Young: You ok? Lee: Yeah. Young: Good, now get your f***ing ass to 1st. Lee: What? I guess they said it on the post game. Pfft, Really?...and who would the source of that information be?
