  1. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 08:49 PM) Milkman, in the "end of Ozzie" thread you just argued that an '11 Sox division title is worthless in and of itself, and yet somehow in this thread Twins division titles are in and of themselves meaningful? if the sox had six meaningless titles in nine years, it would be not only meaningful, but dynastic.
  2. i doubt anything happens over the break. from a p.r. standpoint it's difficult to go from "all in" to folding your hand when your five games out. don't get me wrong, i don't see this team going anywhere, but it's easy to see where a competitive gm finds a rationale for not blowing the thing up at this moment. i think the 12 games after the break (detroit, kc, cleveland, detroit) probably determines his next move.
  3. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 02:19 AM) If a crazy, suicidal f*** jumps off the top of the Sears Tower (I will never refer to it as the Willis Tower), I don't have to wait until he/she hits the ground to no that fool is dead. s***ty analogy. But same difference. I know you're an optimist. I have no problem with that. It's a natural tendency to think the team that you cheer for and love can do something with a player(s) that nobody else could. But those that are not drinking the kool-aid just because said player happens to be a White Sox shouldn't be looked upon as evil demons that just like to be negative for the sake of being negative. I've said this many times before. If the Cubs were set to insert Humber into their rotation EVERY single poster on this board, and that includes you SS2K5 and JoeCool, would be laughing their asses off. This is undeniable fact. Now if somehow, someway, Humber pulls a horseshoe out his ass and is even serviceable, great. It won't make me feel stupid for not expecting a thing from him this year. He's done nothing in his career, outside of being a high draft pick sever years ago, that warrants any type of faith. it wouldn't make you stupid at all if he happened to succeed. just wrong.
  4. looks like they have a good fake try going on. which is better than not trying at all, i suppose.
  5. i haven't met many sox fans out here. there's a ton of transplanted chicagoans, but all of the one's i've met are cub fans. and you don't find too many locals who root for the sox. strangely enough one of the main local radio sportstalk hosts is a pretty big sox fan and from chicago. he doesn't talk about it on his show often, but it gets referenced from time to time.
  6. merkin says the deal isn't done: whitesox.com
  7. QUOTE (ChrisLikesBaseball @ Feb 1, 2011 -> 12:37 AM) http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpag...896&id=5292 Rotoworld states that Alexei will still play under his $2.75 million contract for 2011, and the extension is for the 2012-2015 seasons with the $10 million option for the 2016 season. even though they picked up his 2.75 option for this year is it assured that the deal starts in 2012? could they pick up the option, then tear it up once they re-negotiated? if he's playing for 2.75 this year and then the deal picks up next year that makes a pretty damn good deal even better. i'm not terribly familiar with how the contracts work (obvi).
  8. indians/nats talking about sizemore and carmona deal(s)
  9. more hated here: oney or cowley?
  10. i'm not sure anything bad will happen as a repercussion for oney's big mouth (tweet?) but i'm 100 percent certain that nothing good will come of it.
  11. in general, the chicago baseball reporters are sub-par when it comes to generating scoops and breaking news.
  12. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 12:07 AM) Interesting how I didn't find a show on ESPN (ATH, PTI, First Take) to have a segment about the Dunn or Konerko signings, yet they had a segment about Carlos Pena today. Also, on ESPN's bottom line today I saw they mention "Dunn and Konerko were both listed among the worst defensive 1B in baseball according to advanced fielding metrics". LOL, ok cool guys, thanks for pointing out their flaws. to be fair, tirico had a nice segment on the sox during his 5 p.m. radio spot. essentially lauded the kw for a great offseason, declared the sox the division favorite and maybe more.
  13. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 08:20 PM) RT @Jordan4Life I f***ing hate Twitter so much. lol. well played. at any rate, people should unbunch their panties about this kind of stuff. it is a negotiation. this is what happens.
  14. if other reports regarding zona and texas are true it's unlikely he's going to have the leverage to get that number.
  15. QUOTE (chwhtsox @ Nov 20, 2010 -> 03:34 PM) I once saw Mags burn down an orphanage and speed away laughing with the only water supply in a five mile radius. a literal lol. well played.
  16. good to hear, but i see this more as pre-trade maneuvering than anything else.
  17. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 21, 2010 -> 05:33 PM) My idea is to not trade him. yes, this.
  18. what else is he going to say? the last time the sox essentially declared they were rebuilding went over so well.
  19. QUOTE (hi8is @ Sep 4, 2010 -> 02:59 AM) Only thing I worry about with Sale is injury - other than that.... wowza! i want to see them take their time with sale as he converts from the pen to the starting rotation. but damn if he doesn't just impress you with great stuff.
  20. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 3, 2010 -> 10:19 PM) Sorry, I don't actually mean this. I just found that gif and had to use it. Man-Ram's been around since the mid-90s, I don't think it's dying anytime soon! maybe i've just been blocking it out because of its overwhelming lameness. hard to avoid it when the guys on my team, though. the nickname makes me think of ned beatty. and not in a good way.
  21. the nickname "manram" is flat-out turrible. someone make it stop.
  22. sale's been great. is the assumption that he'll start back in the minors next year at say, AA, to transition back into a starting role?
  23. my gosh this whole waiver process with manny has been like one long tooth extraction. hope it's not indicative of the next month.
