QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 05:46 PM) Why would Ramirez not be lined up to cut the throw and go to 2nd with the play? They had no shot at the runner going home. Throwing to 3B makes even LESS sense with Bourn (as you say) going there on a hit and run. Konerko's first infield single in years, lol. Ask Ramirez ? He cut it off by third. So at least it's not Viciedo's fault so you can make up your mind later since now you seem to be switching the blame to Alexei .

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 05:39 PM) The trail runner on the previous hit should have been held at 1st. Viciedo tried to get the runner at 3rd and once again missed the cutoff man with his throw. How would foolishly trying to cut down the runner there and allowing the trail runner to come into 2nd prevent the run scoring, pray tell? It was a hit and run , Bourne was making it to 3rd easily. Not sure why the throw went there. Maybe thats where they wanted it but Viciedo was not trying to get the runner.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 09:54 AM) Hahn was responsible for that information. If you are going to bluff, play it out. Pulling him from his start if he hasn't been traded shows he was bluffing, and backed down. He wants to get rid of him, and if it ever said it was precautionary because he was afraid he might get hurt, he would be legitimizing any team's concern about his health as a reason for a reduced package. Many GMs have a reputation of being almost ridiculous with their trade demands, yet they still make trades. This is the White Sox one big chip. He will still be a big chip at the Winter Meetings. No need to settle right now. "The White Sox are telling other teams they're going to keep Peavy and build around him." -Buster Olney Unless you were interviewing Hahn and he said this to you I don't see how you can say that with such conviction. Olney says other teams say Hahn says. Wow that's such reliable 4th hand info I'd sure buy into that in a heartbeat. Not really, but apparently you do. Done.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 08:50 AM) The White Sox and just about every other team throw misinformation out there. Things are leaked that they want leaked. Very little legitimate trade talk has ever been out there about the White Sox the last several years. Hahn is a new GM. He has an opportunity to make a reputation. Like has been stated, this is like a card game. Having a reputation as a guy who doesn't bluff can make you a big winner, and it doesn't necessarily mean you don't bluff. You didn't even respond to what i said. You said " don't say one day "we will keep him and build around him" or have it floated out there, and the next, hold him from his start because you may trade him. I understand all of the misinformation that is out there, and realize most GMs know what is real and what is not, but if you are going to say it, make it at least appear as real as possible. Which means you took something someone said about what Hahn supposedly said and applied it to Hahns actions of keeping PV from starting. That means you beleive Hahn is directly responsible for that piece of misinformation and he contradicts himself by starting PV. That just shows me you don't "understand all of the misinformation that is out there."

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 08:47 AM) If Peavy gets injured his first start with another team, there will be adjustments to the trade. They will claim he was damaged goods. So really worrying about him getting hurt is moot. If he's that close to something going really wrong, any trade will be adjusted. There simply is not enough time for a complete physical. Um No ! Let the buyer beware . Where did you come up with this ? Show me a precedent. You do your homework you make the trade he is yours. End of story.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 08:39 AM) That's a good point, but don't say one day "we will keep him and build around him" or have it floated out there, and the next, hold him from his start because you may trade him. I understand all of the misinformation that is out there, and realize most GMs know what is real and what is not, but if you are going to say it, make it at least appear as real as possible. If you get a reputation as someone who won't bluff, other teams have to act accordingly, and then when you bluff, you get away with it a little more. If you have to resort to using all that misinformation that's out there to build your case then you have lost already. Quoting a misquote , none quote, or crap that was made up and then using it to try and find some consistency in Hahns actions does not compute.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 08:31 AM) I think there isa fine line between a tough negotiator and being unreasonable. Keeping PV out is a courtesy. If you get known as unreasonable, I think it hurts your abilityto trade in the future because others will stay away. This is his first year so he needs to be tough as he's shown but also willing to work things out. Ther's an old saying that applies here and that is if Hahn started him he would be " cutting off his nose to spite his face ." Can't see the forest for the trees would also apply. The big picture is right in front you .You you cannot risk PV getting hurt under any circumstances . None , zip, nada !! All your hard work will be worth nothing if by "playin" the f*** you I'll show you I mean business card, it blows up in your face.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 07:40 AM) I disagree. Unless we're really, really close on something (medicals), I'd start him. I think we give up some leverage by holding him out. Starting him sends a message to other teams that we're willing to move on with him in our rotation if we don't get solid offers. Hahn's first sign of weakness, IMHO. I think you over think things Starting him is like kicking sand in your trade partners face. You want the team that trades for him to be able to start him ASAP. It's a gesture of good will. OH yeah starting him means you risk injury DUH. PV gets injured you get NOTHING ! SIMPLE FREAKIN CONCEPT.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 12:31 PM) You would have to ask them, but probably because they want their senior person on the team more people are interested in. Maybe they replace Gonzo with Jim Margulus from SSS . That would please many Sox fans.
