Sox. Brewers. Gamethread. part 2
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to Kyyle23's topic in 2012 Season in Review
QUOTE (sunofgold @ Jun 24, 2012 -> 09:36 AM) Nice to see Da DA back in action even though Brentbridge made a nice catch yesterday. But of course DA DA would have made that catch as well. Let us see who are we facing again. oh it is the mother MILfers. Nice job by the Schedulemaster. okay, I am counting on JQrew to get the milfs out and lower than microscopic ERA. Let us extend our modest one game winning streak. Going for 2 with J-GQ!! Oh yeah great job by White Sox fans in coaxing out a come-from-behind victory yesterday. We were #26 yesterday and let us be #26 again. And why isn't this game on ESP'N? This is going to be the most exciting game on today's slate. As much as I hate to say it, I'd say Mr. two 1 hitters in a row vs CC is pretty damn good. -

QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jun 24, 2012 -> 09:59 AM) His brother still seems to think he's been traded to Chicago, either that or he is enjoying pissing off Redsox nation: Scott Youkilis @chefyouk #whychicagoisbetterthanboston closer drive from Cincinnati 10:36am - 24 Jun 12 Can't blame him for liking Chicago better than Boston. He's probably been here and loves the city , food, restaurants. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 19, 2012 -> 10:44 AM) Between variable/dynamic ticket pricing schemes and the secondary ticket market, tickets should be available at a price that fans think is just. And given that that are several tiers of seating, there should be a “right price” for anyone who is interested in going to a game. Yet, by the looks of it, fans are not buying. In trying to generate ticket sales, teams and consultants have responded with all sorts of programs. These programs basically adjust ticket prices according to daily demand and then variously reach out to both avid and casual fans. This way, with variable/dynamic ticket pricing, team decision-makers effectively end-up reacting in “real-time” rather than having to predict weeks or months in advance what will be the demand for a specific game. This seems rational and is essentially the thinking that the pricing strategies are based on. But it’s worth pointing out that these strategies may have two key design flaws, both of which can be fixed: 1) The first flaw is that there may be too many choices. Conventional wisdom is that human beings prefer to have as many options as possible because its gives us the freedom to choose. (Isn’t it also the American way to have the opportunity to choose, apple pie in hand, to purchase tickets to a baseball game from either an official team website or secondary market websites—and at a price that has been set by the “free market”? The excitement is almost too much to bear.) And that may be the problem. As the psychologist Barry Schwartz has explained, choosing between 175 types of salad dressing tends to paralyze a person’s decision-making and leave that person dissatisfied. Can the same be said for ticket sales, especially when they include a daily (sometimes hourly) fluctuation in price? 2) The second flaw is that the pricing schemes ultimately shift the burden of pricing decision and activity from the franchise (the producer) to the fan (the customer). With variable/dynamic ticket pricing, fans are in a way tasked with trying to determine what is the right price for a ticket and, therefore, are effectively being put to work. Or may be this way of getting tickets is now fully integrated into “the experience.” Also, in the long-run, variable/dynamic ticket pricing may tax franchise personnel more than establishing ticket prices in the off-season and sticking with them for the 162-game slate. The traditional way requires relatively long-range planning, and is grounded in knowing what customers consider value and organizing to anticipate how they might react to the team’s performance throughout a season. Now, with variable/dynamic ticket pricing, the planning has switched to the short-term; the only real long-term consideration is which formula will be used in the season-long pricing strategy. How many successful businesses focused on “making numbers” today while sacrificing the needs of tomorrow—and existed long enough to tell about it? The general point is this: stop making ticket sales so confusing. http://www.forbes.com/sites/sportsmoney/20...mlb-attendance/ FWIW, White Sox tv ratings were 25th in 2010. Paralysis by analysis. I went to the Dodger game with my daughter for Father's Day. After searching through Dodger website, various ticket agencies ,ebay, trying to find discount codes, looking for seats in the shade I was getting pretty confused. Thank goodness I let my daughter do it. Somehow she found seats in the shade for the whole game field level for like $50 apiece. Thank God she's smarter than me .

QUOTE (RZZZA @ Jun 21, 2012 -> 03:43 PM) I can't even watch Chicago Tribune Live with Kaplans blatant homerism. Of course the only thing he focuses on is A.J./Thornton forgetting how many outs there were. Nobody even mentions the Cubs plunking our batters, repeatedly over these last couple of series'. They just need to change the name of the show to " Chicago Cubune Live" for accuracy.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 21, 2012 -> 02:56 PM) It couldn't be more obvious the Cubs were throwing at De Aza. Go back and watch Clevenger's glove on the replay, and you'll have no doubts. Mike Sweeney pointed that out on the MLB network. I'm guessing you saw it.

John Danks diagnosed with a grade 1 scapula tear

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 19, 2012 -> 08:01 AM) Yes. Doyle is somewhere around the 10th to 12th starter in the organization right now. Danks Peavy Sale Floyd Humber Quintana Stewart Axelrod Castro You might even say that someone like Hector Santiago could be stretched out ahead of Doyle, and throw in Pedro Hernandez as a maybe as well. We might have hung onto Stults, though. -

Youk is a bad idea. Old broken down, gets paid huge money and unproductive. Anyone who wants him isn't thinking ahead . Konerko and AJ ,both still very productive ,aren't getting any younger. Giving up any youth for anyone old is beyond ridiculous. We just have to go with what we have and keep rebuilding. If Sox fans can't get behind a team that has a plan but isn't instantly successful, has young and exciting players then it'll be very hard to continue the rebuilding process . Get your asses out to the park if its not too much of a financial burden. You don't have to buy food there. It's fun family entertainment. It's a nice ball park . It's a good environment for kids if you show up early and want to hit the kids zone. The emphasis shouldn't be on winning to go to a game but to have a little fun with the family or friends. Brooks Boyer if you're listening stress the fun things about U.S. Cellular and creating memories with your family, even tell people to brown bag their lunch or dinner. Have more on field activities and advertise the heck out of them. It shouldn't be about appreciating the game but appreciating the memories with those close to you. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 19, 2012 -> 12:06 PM) I don't think this group thinks as much of Lilli as the previous one did. It appears he is already behind Danks in terms of playing time. If he can't get playing time this year after what he did last year he never will. -

Don't know if or how much this has been discussed but why not give Lilibridge a crack at 3rd, at the very least against left handers ? He really did great things last year and with a hole as big as 3rd he deserves a shot. He has power he has speed and he's rotting away on the bench. He can't be worse fielding than Hudson has been who, at best, has been inconsistent, making some very good plays but making awful ones too. Hudson is a small step away from being out of baseball and Escobar has plenty of options to develop in the minors where he should be. -

QUOTE (jeffro2525 @ Jun 13, 2012 -> 01:34 PM) Al Hrobosky and Dan McLaughlin...brutal crew. I watched the replay on FSN when I got home from the game...a not so subtle jab at our attendance at the Cell as AJ was homering from Hrobosky. Just a tool thing to say. Well he's actually right he could take more jabs at our fan base for not voting Paulie or AJ as starters for the AS game too. -

Quintana's importance has been HUGE with Floyd and Humber sucking and Danks on the DL. Just HUGE balls to go along with that penis. -

To people who place a lot of value on WAR I have questions. How does a part time player like Flowers have a higher WAR than Viciedo a full time player ? What exactly is it that Flowers has done or Viciedo hasn't done that makes this possible? -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 08:10 PM) We beat the World Series champs on the road with a Colombian 95% of SoxTalk didn't know about 4 months ago and yet we've spent most of the game thread trading Alexei Ramirez and Dayan Viciedo. If JR hadn't been burned by 2009-2011, there might be some willingness to spend on a Wright or Greinke. For now, they're too hot to the touch. Besides, the Mets aren't doing to lose both Wright and Reyes, their attendance is already falling big-time. They have to keep a homegrown star in the fold. As for Greinke, the price is Viciedo and Reed, bargained down to Viciedo and Jones or Mitchell. Nothing less. Crazy talk to give up Viciedo for a rental and throwing in Reed and/or Jones to boot ? I'll put my money on Danks, Floyd and Humber . -
